| Leeroy07-11-07, 02:48 PM | I am currently playing a petal warmage lvl 1, now due to the petal having a -8 str racial my str is 3, being a petal my dex is large which prevents me from needing armour but i carry a sheild light, and also a shortbow. My question is am i able to use the bow? its a tiny bow like the character. the guys dont seem to think i could use it pull it back and shoot it but would the fact it does 1d3 dmg be the differance?? i am of the opinion that my str norm would be 11 about normal for a generic char and the negative to str is mostly size related so due to the bow downsizing like myself there is no problem? its a little much to get my head around when all the guys are picturing a petal with a regular sized bow stuck on the ground unable to move... |

Strength penalties are subtracted from bow damage. Yes you would be able to shoot the bow, but you would consistently be doing 1d3-4 (effectively 1) damage every time. |
| Rerecros07-11-07, 02:56 PM | You need one hand to hold a shield, and two hands to hold a bow. |
| zorgling2507-11-07, 02:58 PM | You need one hand to hold a shield, and two hands to hold a bow. He never said he's using them both at once. Also, it could be a buckler. |
| Leeroy07-11-07, 03:01 PM | i only stated i had a shield in case weight restrictions (due to str) maybe altered something...but i did say it was a light shield |
| Shadowfax707-11-07, 03:52 PM | I believe Tiny weapons are 1/10 the weight of medium-size ones and specifically sized for Tiny creatures to use. |
| Mai_ariti07-12-07, 09:23 AM | This is the reason Tiny weapons exist. They're not just a quaint way to be cute. They are made for a creature of that size meaning that they assume a stregnth of that range. Also, Str doesn't affect bows unless they have the mighty capibility. There is no reason that the lack of a high stregnth would have an effect on the bow. Alternately, if you want it to, buy the equivilant of a Mighty -4 bow, ridiculous I know, and say that it is made with a pull only an ant would fail at. Then remove your penalty, and do your 1d3 damage. |

It does. negative strength is always substracted from a bow. positive is only added for composite bows. (its in RAW, I think in the bow-entry ) |

Strength Bonus When you hit with a melee or thrown weapon, including a sling, add your Strength modifier to the damage result. A Strength penalty, but not a bonus, applies on attacks made with a bow that is not a composite bow. |
| obrysii07-12-07, 10:17 AM | Keep in mind your carrying capacity is as follows: Light Load: up to 5 pounds Medium Load: 6 - 10 pounds Heavy Load: 11 to 15 pounds Maximum Load: 15 pounds Lift off ground: 30 pounds Drag: 75 pounds You can fly whilst carrying up to 5 pounds. |
| RobbyPants07-12-07, 11:03 AM | My question is am i able to use the bow? its a tiny bow like the character. the guys dont seem to think i could use it pull it back and shoot it but would the fact it does 1d3 dmg be the differance?? As previously noted, you will be doing 1d3-4 damage with the bow. You could go the crossbow route. This would let you deal 1d4 damage (with no Str penalty). I don't know if you want to go through the hassel of carrying a crossbow around with you though. The tiny bow will only be useful if you come up with some other way to increase the damage or effectiveness. Sneak attack works great, but because you're a mage, you probably won't go this route. Poison is another great tactic. Sure, you only hit for one damage, but now they need a Fort Save... |
| The_Shaman07-12-07, 11:12 AM | Tiny equipment will, indeed, weigh much less than medium-sized one. Chances are, your strength is enough to put on a minisculer leather jerkin, so do not worry. As for a ranged weapon - if you need one - I would really recommend the crossbow. You will not make that many attacks per turn anyway. |
| Kopana07-12-07, 08:15 PM | Where are petals anyway? |
| Leeroy07-13-07, 01:28 AM | Where are petals anyway? petals are located in MMIII |
| lord_xarallon07-13-07, 10:00 AM | Keep in mind your carrying capacity is as follows: Light Load: up to 5 pounds Medium Load: 6 - 10 pounds Heavy Load: 11 to 15 pounds Maximum Load: 15 pounds Lift off ground: 30 pounds Drag: 75 pounds You can fly whilst carrying up to 5 pounds. True, but armor weight 1/10 of a medium size, and I believe weapons weight 1/4 of a medium size, though I'm not sure as could not find rules about anywhere. |
| Mai_ariti07-13-07, 10:47 AM | Oops. My bad, for some reason, I thought that Str didn't affect bows at all. Apparently I was thinking Crossbows. |
