| qlawdat07-26-07, 02:01 PM | Are sun elves the only race with a + to int (that doesn't have a LA)? |
| CaoSlayer07-26-07, 02:04 PM | No, they arent the only ones, and you have not to search in obscure splatbooks, you have one in the monster manual... with pointy ears. |
| Lawlicron07-26-07, 02:23 PM | No, they arent the only ones, and you have not to search in obscure splatbooks, you have one in the monster manual... with pointy ears. Sun elves and Grey elves are the same thing... I think. There are too many elven subraces anyway. |
| The_Shaman07-26-07, 02:32 PM | No, they are not: gray elves have -2 str, +2 dex over sun elves. I think they are from Greyhawk, Sun elves are from FR. Other than that, yes, there are quite a few elven subraces. |
| qlawdat07-26-07, 02:40 PM | But do any other races have a int bonus? I have access to just about every splat book out there. |
| Lawlicron07-26-07, 02:42 PM | But do any other races have a int bonus? I have access to just about every splat book out there. Well I just mentioned Grey Elf. They are -2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Int. Much better than Sun Elf. There is also a race in the underdark book that has -2 Dex +2 Int with alot of other stuff geared to make them good wizards. |

| AZNsupermarket07-27-07, 08:59 PM | Here are all your choices from WOTC published material for +0 LA races that get a bonus to intelligence: Gray Elf: -2 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +2 Int, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), monster manual pg.104 Sun Elf: +2 Int -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), forgotten realms pg.15 Silvanesti: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Con -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., humanoid (elf), dragonlance campaign setting pg.20 Fire Elf: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Con -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), unearthed arcana pg.17 Deep Imaskari: +2 Int -2 Dex, medium, 30 ft., spell clutch (su), wizard, humanoid (human), underdark pg.9 Tinker Gnome: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Str -2 Wis, small, 20 ft., special, dragonlance campaign setting pg.27 Lesser Air Genasi: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Wis -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., levitate (sp), fighter, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Lesser Fire Genasi: +2 Int -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., control flames (sp), fighter, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Lesser Tiefling: +2 Int +2 Dex -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., darkness (sp), rogue, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Vanara: -2 Str +2 Int +2 Wis, medium, 30 ft. climb 20 ft., spirit shaman, humanoid (vanara), oriental adventures pg.15 – Note: in a 3.5 oriental adventures update found in Dragon magazine, vanara were updated to no longer have any ability score adjustments. Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold: -4 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +3 Int +3 Wis +3 Cha, small, 30 ft., sorcerer, dragon (kobold, reptilian, dragonblood), monter manual pg.161 and races of the dragon pg. 39 You can also add the Dragonborn of Bahamut pseudo-template without level adjustment to any of the races with a bonus to int (beside the venerable dragonwrought kobold) and gain +2 con -2 dex, which stacks with your original ability adjustments. That may be helpful for a lot of these (especially for races like fire elves and gray elves). Dragonborn: +2 Con -2 Dex, same as base creature, same as base creature, fighter and the base creatures, humanoid (dragonblood, same as base creature), races of the dragon pg.5 Other than that, you can just increase your age level and suffer the physical ability score penalties. |
| zorgling2507-27-07, 11:14 PM | When in doubt, use aging "penalties." :D |
| ElberethSilverleaf07-29-07, 03:26 AM | The original elves had +1dex -1 con, with gray elves getting -1con, +1 int. Why the huge paradigm shift with everything having to be +2 or -2 ???? |
| myusernameis07-29-07, 03:27 AM | The original elves had +1dex -1 con, with gray elves getting -1con, +1 int. Why the huge paradigm shift with everything having to be +2 or -2 ????The way dnd modifiers work. Since bonuses are based on even numbers it would only make sense for racial modifiers to be even numbers as well. |
| Yadot07-29-07, 12:50 PM | Because when somebody has odd ability scores to apply the +1, -1 modifiers to, they become +2, -0. |
| El_Machinae07-29-07, 08:06 PM | The original elves had +1dex -1 con, with gray elves getting -1con, +1 int. Why the huge paradigm shift with everything having to be +2 or -2 ???? 3.0/3.5 is also scaled on a ~30 point scale, instead of an 18 point scale. An epic character in 2e would have an 18, while a similar character would be in the high 20s in 3.0/3.5 |
