It made it sound like you could put as many templates on the guest as you wanted, and have it's ECL as high as you like, and the ECL of the symbiotic creature is still only equal to what the host would be by itself +1 (for the template). Is this how it works?
Essex 12-16-07, 11:57 AM	While the entry states that the template has a +1 LA, it does not specifically indicate whether this apples to the host or to the guest. I'd assume that it applies to whichever creature has the higher ECL. After all, if you've got a guest with godlike powers, it is only fair to treat the guest as the dominant partner of the pair.
Raiziel07 12-16-07, 01:31 PM	Actually, both get the +1 LA, because they both get the template. It also says that the combined creature gets the HD of the host, and it advances as either the host or by character class. This all points to the ECL being that of the host, but then the CR is as a mixed pair of the host and guest, which would mean you'd have an ECL of 2, but a CR of 999, or whatever you got the guest to be. I can kinda see having a low ECL because most things you gain from a template are more like passive abilities, or just the traits of the type you change into. Templates don't typically make you much more dangerous other than the occasional boosts to stats. Most templates tend to boost physical abilites, which don't matter on the guest. I asked mostly to see if anyone had possibly seen or heard of WotC making a definitive answer somehwhere, since they havent done an erratta to clarify.
