Ok, so I'm making a Tiefling who has a tail. But I can't find any rules on PC's with tails. Can anyone direct me to where I might find any information please.

Thanks in advance.

While tiefling certainly might have a tail because of it's bloodline, it wouldn't be a prehensile tail. Think of it more like that of a cats or rats tail.

Having a prehensile tail that would be considered natural weapon (slap or tentacle attack) or even be able to hold items would possibly mean raising tieflings LA.

While there isn't anything official what kind of benefits would a tail grant to a player character (if any), you could always look at the fiends that have tails and figure out what kind of damage would the tail inflict.

Not quite. Nezumi, Vanara and other races have tails that are prehensile enough to be "weaponized" (tail spikes, etc) but do not do anything without special equipment - at least, they are not a natural weapon in their own right. These two races, in particular, have very good racial abilities and no LA. If a tiefling character - and tieflings are, by and large, a very poor +1 at most - wants to get tail spikes and the like, I say more power to him.

Also you might be able to talk your GM into switching around the skill bonuses to climb and balance respectively if thats what you want.... seeing as you have well a tail and all.

There is that Prehensile Tail feat in Savage Species...

Even with only the most basic control of the tails muscles, I think +1 or +2 on balance checks would make sense, since that is the function of the tail of two-legged animals. To assist in climbing, the tail would likely have to be as flexible and strong as an arm and hand.

It's purely cosmetic and descriptive. It gives no in game bonus.

There is a feat in Dragon Magic or Races of the Dragon which grants a tail attack to those with draconic blood-- I could see a DM allowing this feat to be adapted for demonic blood, particularly since you're taking a level adjustment to pick it up.

Oriental Adventures.

I would grant them a +2 bonus on climb checks.

There is a race in one of my homebrew settings that has a tail able enough to hold an item, say hand themselves a set of keys on a keyring, or shine a flashlight over their shoulder, but not enough to effectively wield a weapon. Tail spikes, well, I don't really know, to be honest.

I don't see why people think a bonus to be appropriate. Not to be rude or anything, but it DOESN"T SAY IN THE TEXT that they get a bonus for a tail, so they don't. For others, like Yun-ti Half-Bloods, it does say they get a binus for a tail. But not for Teiflings.

Any adding in of bonuses for having a tail would be purely house rule territory. If I were to have a Tiefling with a tail, I'd give him a trait (a la Unearthed Arcana): +1 to Balance, -1 or -2 to Disguise checks.

But it'd be entirely a house rule.

Oh, well THAT sir/madam, is a good idea. If there is something to balance it out, it makes a fine house rule.

For the tail spikes from OA mentioned up above, all they are is basically a small spiked ring that slips on the end of said tail. (Nezumi, Vanara, whatever you want to attach it to) If you have proficiency (its exotic) you can use it to make a single extra attack in a round, with all attacks at -2. A nice bonus, but its up to you whether its worth a feat or not.

The prehensile tail feat from SS requires a "tail attack". I think it would be up to the DM as to whether or not using tail spikes to attack counts as a "tail attack".

I second that.

The tail blade and tail club can also be found as exotic weapons in Savage Species. Even without a prehensile tail (the description gives a lizardfolk as an example), a character proficient with either weapon can make an additional attack as if it were using a weapon in an off-hand, with penalties according to standard Two-Weapon of Multiweapon Fighting rules.

There's even a picture.

Thanks (assuming you're not being sarcastic).

Incidentally, the "man" in "Tectorman" should be implying that I'm not a madam. So since it's not (apparently), what should I put in there instead?

I'm very sorry to derail this thread like this, but that had to be addressed.

Also, please note that the penalty to Disguise checks would be circumstantial. For instance, a Tiefling with a tail disguising themselves as a Felinis-Catfolk (my homebrew race, the same as the normal Catfolk, but with a tail), would probably not have this penalty.

Ya, I don't see how text in the Lizardfolk entrie affect the Teifling. That bonus isn't a "gimme" that all with a tail get. It only applies to Lizardfolk.

Oh, sorry. I just never quite know on the internet. I didn't really look at your name. They should have a little thing saying the posters gender, IMO.

And, no, I was not being sarcastic. Sorry if you thought that.

Do forgive Rust Monster, I actually meant to say +2 on Balance. Granted, not all Tieflings would have it. Truthfully, if nobody else in the party really cared, I'd go with it. Otherwise, likely not.

I would agree to the +1 or +2 to Balance for the -1 or -2 to disguise. I like that.

Part of the misconception might be from having Mirri as an avatar.

Granted, she's freakin awesome, but still.

I personally like the houserule with a bonus on balance with an equal penalty on disguise. I may use that in the future.

if they're willing to burn a feat to amp the tail, i'd consider it as a DM, otherwise, it has no mechanical effect. not even Catfolk get them and they are +1LA as well.
most tieflings don't have tails, it's an incidental really. purely cosmetic in scope.

i only remember like 6 traits that allude to abyssal/infernal lineage anyway. normally, we roll for them given player preference to "easilly disguised" ones to prevent powergaming.
can't remember, but we'd apply like 2/6 or 3/6 from Races of Faerun i think

-fangs, disturbing dental structure
-prehensile tail
-brimstone (or equally supernatural smell), consider Scent...
-hoofed
-reverse knee joints
-abberrant skin pigmentation
