Hey, someone was going to come up with this, anyway, right?

Anywho...

Mutated Turtle Racial Traits
- Medium size.
- A mutated turtle's base land speed is 30 feet.
- A mutated turtle's has a swim speed of 20 feet.
- Aberration: Mutated turtles are not subject to spells or effects that affect humanoids only, such as charm person or dominate person.
- A mutated turtle has the aquatic subtype.
- Amphibious (Ex): Mutated turtles can breathe both air and water.
- Special Monk Weapon Proficiency: Mutated turtles gain (Simple, Martial, or Exotic) Weapon Proficiency for one weapon designated as a special monk weapon as a bonus feat. Alternatively, they may gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword) as a bonus feat, instead.
- +3 natural armor bonus.
- A mutated turtle has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line.
- Automatic Languages: Common, Aquan. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Elven, Sylvan, Terran, Undercommon.
- Favored Class: Monk or Ninja. A mutated turtle may only choose one of these two classes to be its favored class and may not change this choice later. A multiclass mutated turtle's monk or ninja class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

There you go. Tell me if there's anything I forgot or misrepresented.

I think they need a bonus when taking a total defensive action, as if they were withdrawing into their shell.

If you're trying to make a mutant turtle (opposed to mutant ninja turtles), I would take out the weapon proficiencies, unless all mutant turtles are from martial-culture.

Make it clear that their life-span is the same as a human.

IMO, their type should be humanoid.

Where's splinter?

Good point, I'll try to think of something (This was really supposed to be a gag, by the way. I mean, if people are going to come up with stuff for the movie 300, then why not TMNT?)

If you're trying to make a mutant turtle (opposed to mutant ninja turtles), I would take out the weapon proficiencies, unless all mutant turtles are from martial-culture.

The only four turtles that I know of all know how to use a special monk weapon (or katanas, in Leonardo's case). Thus, precedent allows for all of them to have some kind of proficiency in such a weapon (if you want to call that a martial-culture background, then by all means...).

Make it clear that their life-span is the same as a human.

Good point, but that doesn't usually come up in a race's traits block anyway. Incidentally, what are the weight, height, and age limits for the Goliaths? I can't find them in Races of Stone anywhere?

IMO, their type should be humanoid.

Elans begin as human, but undergo some kind of process that makes them turn into aberrations. The Turtles' origins being pet store turtles mutated by an ooze just strikes me as being more akin to the Elan process, than, say, anthropomorphizing a turtle (as in Savage Species). Furthermore, a Medium Anthropomorphic Animal always has Racial Hit Die, which I wanted to avoid.

Where's splinter?

When he gets a movie about him named after him, then I'll make a racial block for such a race. Not until.

Except he's a part of every movie and show... It's like making Star Wars game and not having Wookie or driod stats.

I wouldn't give them the weapon profs, they have those because they are monk/ninja's, not because of their race.

Agreed to the total defense action, they did that a lot in the comicbook. Usually leading to one of them being thrown by a sling-shot or dropped off a building on a bad guy.

I reiterate: "Gag!"

Or the Data version:
Data: "Gag. Noun. Used to evoke humor and usually not intended to be taken literally or seriously. See also: humor, joke, funny, witticism, one-liner, yarn, tale, anecdote, sketch..."
Picard: "Data?"
Data: "Yes, sir?"
Picard: "Shut up."
Data: "Yes, sir."

I'd remove the water breathing bit. Turtles can't breathe water.

Give them Hold Breath like porpoises instead.

Although I still think the Savage Species anthropomorphic turtles are more than adequate.

The only reason they know how to use them is because they were trained in there use by splinter.
and the Hold breath I think would fitbetter also.

Every thing else looks great!

The very first episode of the series long ago:

Donatello: "We've got to get to safety or we'll drown! Oh, wait. What am I talking about? We're turtles."

Granted, that can just as easily be explained by a racial bonus on Swim checks or even a Swim speed, but I like it better this way.

But I'm thinking that I should add in something along the lines of "+1 morale bonus to (insert specific type of dice roll here) for 10 minutes after eating pizza" or something like that.

If you can hold your breath for half an hour, your fear of drowning goes down precipitously. You don't have to be able to literally breathe water to be able to stay underwater a long time without drowning.

The main thing is that it doesn't make sense for regular turtles to be air-breathing reptiles but for them to grow gills as a result of their mutation, when everything else about their mutation is making them *less* like turtles and *more* like humans.

Agreed; If you want these I sugest working off of that and breaking them down.

Dragon #330 included the 3.5 updated stats for the Tortle race:

- -2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Wis, -2 Cha
-A tortle's base land speed is 20 feet, and it has a swim speed of 10 feet.
-Low-light vision
-+3 natural armor bonus
-+8 racial bonus on swim checks.
-Endurance as a racial bonus feat
-Automatic Languages: Common and Tortle. Bonus Languages: Aquan, Elven, and Sylvan.
-Favored Class: Cleric.
-Level Adjustment: +0.

Now, with 3 levels of Monk, Land speed goes back up to 30 feet. Not bad, huh?

I was wondering when somebody was going to post something about the Tortle race from Dragon Magazine #330.

Splinter would work as a Nezumi with a longer lifespan

there is a race in Sandstorm called crucian.... they're a LA2 you should add and remove stuf ffrom that to get a better idea. they're basically turtle people. and i think they have +8 to armor... so if you dont take my advice, then you should consider that +8 nat armor for having the "humanoid typeish shell" that crucians have-which looks just like tnbt.

They were also seen talking underwater, and if I'm not mistaken, gasping for breath, er, water while underwater (I might not be remembering that correctly, though).

Oh, and to the guy with the comment about not putting Wookies in a Star Wars RPG, I'm not creating the whole TMNT universe here. That was never my intention. Otherwise I'd also have stats for Splinter, the Shredder (which wouldn't take long), the Foot Soldier, Krang, the Legions from Dimension X, Dimension X itself, Rocksteady, Bebop, and so many others. Obviously, that's way more effort than I want to put in.

OMG, Splinter is a Nezumi Ruathar :D

Ew, it's that or cloud anchorite. Maybe CA though - do Nezumi have climb speed?
