Lady_Sophia 07-23-07, 08:44 PM	Is there a limit to the amount of Templates that can be applied to a playable character? Also, how do templates function exactly? Do you inherit the abilities of all templates, or only the most recently applied one? I ask, because i have found myself in a position where i made an Elf / Half-Fiend at the beginning of the campaign, and now i am gaining levels in Dragon Disiciple. When i gain my 10th level, i gain the Half-Dragon Template. Now, my questions are these, 1) If i applied the Half-Dragon Template, would i still get my Half-Fiend Attibutes / Abilities / Feats? 2) If i applied the Half-Dragon Template, would i get the Attributes / Abilities / Feats for being Half-Dragon on top of my Half-Fiend abilities? 3) Is there a limit for applying Templates to a Player Character? I'm a new player to D&D, but i think i am going to go get the DM and Monster Manual Books so i can understand these things better. I was only wondering because my DM is not entirely sure himself and is wondering if my character is becoming just a little too powerful with all the additional stats and abilities from the templates. So, could someone answer those three points. Further more, for future reference, if i got bitten by a Were-Creature (since i think that is what my DM may try and do to make me weaker / hinderance to the party) could i also gain the Were-Creature Template(?) and bonuses associated with being infected (on top of everything else). (?) = not sure if the Were-Creature thing, is a Template. I'm new to D&D and only had a few sessions and by what i have read, it is a Template, the Lycanthrope Template + Chosen Animal Template. If it is a Template, again, does it staked onto the other Templates, or is there a Maximum? Thank you. Got to love being new... :D
skydin 07-23-07, 08:51 PM	i would say, since it is an aquired template, the things you gain from it accumulate over your career as a dragon deciple, that its only half dragon in name, and really your just whatever you were to begin with + the abilities/natural weapons of a half dragon. so in reality your more like a half feind dragon-elf. however in normal circumstances i woulndt allow anyone to apply more than 1 half-template to their charecter, unless they were willing to give up the benifits of the base creature in exchange for a second half. (turning them into, for example, a half dragon half feind...or a half feind half dragon.) it wouldnt be a half feind dragon, or a half dragon feind, because they didnt start out as a feind or a dragon. rather odd actually...
zeratulcraft 07-23-07, 09:38 PM	Notice that when you're a Half-Fiend Elf, you're not a Half-Fiend Half-Elf. The traits of the parent creature come with you. Thus if you're a half-fiend half-dragon, you are more likely to be a Succubus/Incubus/Erinyes Half-Dragon or something similar. So unless you make a half-template for every creature, to go with the other half-template (Dragon/Fiend whatever), then you just have the base race of the parent and the template of the other parent.

JulesCARV 07-23-07, 10:12 PM	The half-fiend and half-dragon templates stack just fine. Apply them both to your character. There is no maximum to the number of templates that can be applied in theory. I believe, though, that you retain the outsider type, rather than gaining the dragon type, because outsider "overrides" dragon. Also, as far as lycanthropy goes, by the rules, you're invulnerable: you're an outsider, and lycanthropy only afflicts humanoids and giants.
Morwen 07-23-07, 10:16 PM	However, be aware that you don't apply the traits of the Half-Dragon template on top of the abilities and traits you gain from the Dragon Disciple class; they're built-in to the class.
vegetalss4 07-24-07, 10:04 AM	no dragon overides outsider in this case. as the half dragon states that i can be aplidded to any corporal living creature (including outsiders) and change the type to dragon. but the half fiend can change the type from dragon to outsider so you got the type of what ever is aplied last

Savage Species gives a hierarchy of sorts for template types. However, by the RAW you determine the creature's type based on the order in which you apply the templates. There is no limit to how many templates may be applied to a character. However, too many templates can make a character difficult to play, due to the high level adjustment.
