I'm looking for any template that converts a creature to one of the following types; Animal, Monstrous Humanoid, or Magical Beast and keeps to +4 or less LA. I don't much care about what the base creature has to be, as I can probably get there from where I am. However, I need to keep Special Qualities and Special Attacks, so an Incarnate Construct trick won't help. Any ideas? Thanks.

EDIT: Except things requiring humanoid as a base. Those are even harder to find, if they exist besides Incarnate Construct.

Feral Template - Savage Species

Some Prestige Classes can give similar results.

Nah, Feral won't work. It requires humanoid or monstrous humanoid as the base. Since I'm starting with a Dragon, that poses difficulty (I'm assuming the type pyramid can be ignored, though, or else this whole idea goes to pot). I can get to practically any type BUT the ones I need through other ways of type-shifting that I know of, but this is posing a problem to me. Every template that goes to Monstrous Humanoid seems to require a Vermin, Animal, Magical Beast, or Humanoid as a base.

Do you want this to be strictly Templates or can I throw a few classes in there?

Half-Troll could get you to Giant.

And the Primeval prestige class (Frostburn) could get you magical beast with the shapechanger subtype at level 10.

There basically aren't templates that would degrade the creature. As per savage species, Dragons, Outsiders and Undead are considered the highest creature types where animals, vermin and humanoids are considered the least. When applying templates, the higher type prevails.

There are always exceptions. The Incarnate Construct and the Half-Troll, for example.

As I said earlier, I don't believe the type pyramid (with Outsiders and Undead at the top and Humanoids at the bottom) applies in this particular case, so there is no need to worry about it. If it does, I understand that the whole idea is ruined and I'll have to come up with something else.

EDIT: Nevermind this thread, I just realized that the permanent Spell Turning from Monster of Legend doesn't help against Dispel Magic, the one reason I was attempting to go to all this trouble. No need to continue.
