| luckyskatr12-04-07, 03:27 PM | A friend and I have created this because I think there should be one. I havent gotten around to a picture yet but just think of a snapping turtle standing on two legs about the size of you. I also thought about giving it powerful build because turtles are pretty bulky and i think it would work out nice to have another race that has it. Other than that any pointers or tips are welcome. Let me know what you think. Testudine (Snapping Turtle Race) •+4 Strength, -4 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +4 Wisdom, -2 Charisma •Medium size •A Testudines base land speed is 20 feet. •A Testudines base swim speed is 30 feet. A Testudines has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. A Testudines can always take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. A Testudines can use a run action while swimming, provided he swims in a straight line. •Hold Breath (Ex): A Testudines can hold his breath for a Number of rounds equal to 8x his Constitution score before he risks drowning. For a typical Testudines, this is 96 rounds, or almost 10 minutes. •Natural Attack: A Testudine has a natural bite attack that deals 1d6 points of damage. If fighting without a weapon a Testudine uses his bite as a primary attack, adding 1-1/2 times his Strength bonus to damage. If armed with a weapon, he can use his bite or weapon, as he chooses. When making a full attack, a Testudine normally uses the weapon as his primary attack along with with the bite as a natural secondary attack (at -5 attack). If the Testudines gets extra attacks by virtue of a base attack bonus of +6 or higher, he gets them only with his primary attack. •3 Natural Armor Bonus •Racial Hit Dice: A Testudine begins with two levels of Monstrous humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonus of Fort +0, Ref +3, Will +3 •DR2/ Bludgeoning •Darkvision 60 feet •Low-light vision •Racial Feats: Improved Grab (Free grapple when Testudines use there bite attack as there primary weapon). •Level Adjustment: +2 •Automatic Languages: Aquan and Common •Bonus Languages: Goblin, Orc, Gnoll, Undercommon •Favored Class: Barbarian or Monk |

| Jorda_The_Knight12-04-07, 06:04 PM | I agree with most of what HernetheHunter said, but here's my two cents as well: - The ability adjustments should be more accurately balanced. You currently have a +18 opposed by a -6 in the adjustments, making these less sever, especially for strength and constitution would help a lot. - I would switch the different movement speeds, I mean, an anthropomorphic turtle who can run as fast as an elf or human? Give em a 20 foot land speed and a 30 foot swim speed and things will make more sense. - You may want to consider dropping the natural armor bonus slightly, maybe just to a +3 or +4. It's not much but early on it will make a world of difference. You may also want to include a note about wearing special armor, since most armor is not created with a huge turtle shell in mind. Hope this helps you flesh your race out some :) |

| luckyskatr12-07-07, 03:06 PM | Thanks for the input guys. this really helps. I didnt think about the armor. Thats a good point. What do you think about now alowing armor instead of lowering it make favored class monk a little bit better. I thought about making it a +2 LA before but I wanted to keep it at +1 so what do u think I should do to keep it that way. |
| HernetheHunter12-09-07, 06:53 PM | I would change the following: Drop the Wisdom bonus. Natural Armor to +2 Drop the DR. You may have to adjust the other racial ability adjustments but this would help. |
| bhu12-09-07, 09:00 PM | Snapping Turtles also track by scent as well |
| HernetheHunter12-10-07, 01:24 AM | I could see scent added with no problem. |
| zook1shoe66612-10-07, 09:17 AM | looks really good. i'd probably do 1d8 for the bite attack, since they are Medium-sized. |
