| thatwittygeekcomic08-21-07, 04:55 PM | I've been toying around with some ideas for races. See we have a chick on the group, and although shes having a ball being a halfling rogue, when we make another game she wants to be something completely different. I was thinking maybe a fairy (which shes obsessed with, she wants to wear her wings) or a half-nymph (which I think would be an awesome half-race) But our Dungeon Master doesnt like the race/class level adjustments for the fairy. And the Monster Manual doesnt say anything helpful for half-fey. So, what would make these races ideas work? |

There's half-fey and feytouched in the Fiend Folio, the former has wings, and the LA wasn't too harsh on it either :) |
| Paul_profession_baker08-21-07, 05:10 PM | Well, it's not really a "fairer" race, but the Fey'ri (Races of Fearun p.118) is a pretty cool race. It's basically half sun-elf and half succubus. They come with a LA +2 or +3 depending on the demonic abilities you choose. I know that my wife is having a ball with the Alter self ability. |
| Disciple_of_Juiblex08-21-07, 05:16 PM | Theres also the Gloamling(sp?) found in Underdark. While not fay they are outsiders with Faerie like wings, LA+2. |
| Callix08-21-07, 05:19 PM | Half-Fey in the Fiend Folio (Don't ask why) does a pretty good job. Apart from that, make one up. Look at the "parent's" abilities, and pick some of the saner ones. Put bonuses in the notable high stats (Charisma, Dexterity). Put in penalties if you want to minimise LA. Strength and Constitution or Wisdom seem logical places. Give it some flavourful abilities, and, of course, wings. Natural flight is usually worth a +1 LA on its own, so don't make those abilities too powerful. You're looking at a +2 LA race or template, realistically. |
| Treymordin08-21-07, 05:23 PM | What about plain old elves? |
| AtsuiShoto08-21-07, 06:15 PM | While they are "fair", normal elves don't have fairy wings. |
| UnrelentingHoror08-21-07, 10:10 PM | With the winged template they do. :D And maybe an additional +2 dex but I'm not sure. |
| Sir Aurik08-30-07, 10:30 AM | use an Averial 9winged elf), just make a simple cosmetic change from featherd winges to feiry wings. |
| Shedeo08-30-07, 11:43 AM | Sir Aurik's got the right idea. That would be the best way to get a LA +0 "fairy." If you really want to enforce the fey feeling, give them -2 Str and make them small. And, for the love of whatever you believe in, remove the Footbow. Apart from that, Half-Fey from the Fiend Folio (I know its been mentioned before) is a good, solid template. |

And, for the love of whatever you believe in, remove the Footbow. Actually, I think you're thinking of the Raptorian, the Avariel is a +3 LA, althought the Raptorian would work too. Apart from that, Half-Fey from the Fiend Folio (I know its been mentioned before) is a good, solid template. Hehe, yep, I'm playing a Half-Fey Gray Elf Enchanter (variant from Unearthed Arcana), the spell-like abilities are awsome. Mmm.... Charm Person at will. And if you're DM allows it, you can buy off the LA at 6 HD and 9 HD (For the Avariel it's more complicated, and you can't do it til 9 HD, 15 HD, and 18 HD.) |
| Shedeo09-01-07, 03:39 AM | Well, I guess I was thinking Raptoran. But they're better because, well, they wouldn't have the LA. But the Half-Fey's abilities make it worth it no matta what. |
| Dazzer09-01-07, 04:27 AM | Hey I have a possible solution to your half-fey problemo! It isn't actually mine, it's from Dicefreaks, and it isn't official by their standards either. However, they are usually pretty good, and I like this template. http://community.dicefreaks.com/viewtopic.php?t=7115 That is the original thread it is located in. For a half-nymph I would suggest the following. (This is extrapolated from the original half-fey template given on Dice-freaks; if you look it over on their site, you may find a combination that suits you better; they allow for wings!) CREATING A HALF-FEY “Half-fey” is an inherited or acquired template that can by added to any living, corporeal creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature). A half-fey has all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to fey. Do not recalculate Hit Dice, base attack bonus, or saves. Size is unchanged. Speed: Add Swim Speed of 20ft; Special Abilities: A half-fey retains all the special attacks of the base creature and gains spell-like abilities and one additional new special ability drawn from the following list. A half-fey may gain any special ability among those listed, no matter what its fey parent was, although each ability is often associated with specific races. Sometimes, a half-fey may gain a special ability not among those described below; such a unique ability should be no more powerful than those described here. Unless noted otherwise, the save DC for any ability described below is equal to 10 + 1/2 total Hit Dice + Charisma modifier and the caster level for any spells is equal to the half-fey's total Hit Dice. CHOOSE ONE Awesome Beauty (Su): The half-fey is strikingly beautiful. Any creature of the same type which sees the creature from within 30 feet must succeed on a Will save or be shaken for 1 minute. A new save is required each round; successive failure resets the duration but does not cause a worse fear condition. This effect may be suppressed or resumed as a free action. This is a mind-affecting effect. Typical parent race: Daoine sidhe, dryad, huldra, nymph. Seduction: The half-fey has a strong sexual allure about it. It gains a +4 racial bonus on Bluff checks to seduce others, and may use charm person as a spell-like ability at will. Typical parent race: Daoine sidhe, dryad, huldra, nymph, satyr. Spellblooded: The half-fey increases its caster level in all arcane and nature-based spellcasting classes it possesses by +4. Typical parent race: Bird of paradise, cailleach bheur, curupira, daoine sidhe, gaoth sidhe, horned hunter, murderjack, nymph, sylphide. Talent in the Blood: The half-fey acquires great skill in an area related to its fey parent's race's area of interest. For instance, the child of an ocean strider may be an amazing sailor. The half-fey chooses up to three skills. These skills are always treated as class skills for the half-fey. It gains a +4 racial bonus on those skills. It may take 10 on those checks even when threatened. The half-fey also gains one bonus feat it qualifies for, which must also be related to its parent fey. Typical parent race: Any. Spell-Like Abilities: Each half-fey with a Wisdom or Charisma score of 8 or higher has spell-like abilities depending on its Hit Dice, as indicated on the table below. Unless otherwise noted, an ability is usable once per day. Spell-Like Abilities HD Abilities 1–2 Faerie fire; hypnotism 3–4 Speak with animals; enthrall 5–6 Speak with plants; suggestion 7–8 Call lightning 9–10 crushing despair 11–12 Dimension door 13–14 Mass invisibility 15–16 Mass suggestion 17–18 Mass charm monster 19–20 Freedom Special Qualities: A half-fey has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities. —Low-light vision. —+4 racial bonus on saving throws against the spell-like abilities of fey. —Damage reduction: 5/cold iron (if HD 11 or less) or 10/cold iron (if HD 12 or more). —Spell resistance equal to creature’s HD + 10 (maximum 35). (You may wish to replace Spell-Resistance with Charisma Bonus as Deflection bonus to armour class, or as a bonus on saving throws. but not both...as a nymph does not have spell-resistance) Also, Stunning Glance 1/day per 6 hitdice (maximum 3 times at 18th level) may also be an ideal replacement. Abilities: +2 Int, +2 Wis (Or +2 Dex), +6 Charisma Skills: A half-fey gains skill points as a fey and has skill points equal to (6 + Int modifier) x (HD +3). Do not include Hit Dice from class levels in this calculation—the half-fey gains fey skill points only for its racial Hit Dice, and gains the normal amount of skill points for its class levels. Treat skills from the base creature’s list as class skills, and other skills as cross-class. Challenge Rating: HD 5 or less, as base creature +1; HD 6 to 10, as base creature +2; HD 11 or more, as base creature +3. Alignment: Usually Chaotic Good Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +4. I hope this helps, even if it isn't official. |
| Nylanfs09-02-07, 12:27 PM | Check out Fairies by Dragon Wing (was originally released under pub. Bastion Press) it really expands the fey races. |
| Prime3209-02-07, 03:19 PM | I was thinking maybe a fairy (which shes obsessed with, she wants to wear her wings) Wait, does she actually want to wear wings at the gaming table? |

(Wonderful book, I especially like the flavor of the Pleasure Fairies, or whatever they're called. A fairy swarm that loves to bring erotic pleasure to any creature that enters the swarm's square) |
