The Atropa:

Among the deep depths of the forests, the courts of the Shee and the Un-shee have ruled from time immemorial as the supreme monarchy of the woodland. Yet, the trees, could they talk, might not agree. There is a race, ancient beyond measure, that was cast into magical slumber millennia before the time of man. Now, though, the first glimmerings of wakefulness have begun to stir in the dark heart of the woodlands, and the monarchy of plants have begun to wake.

Personality: The Atropa are relatively new to this world. They remember a time of unparalleled beauty and peace unlike even the long-lived elves can remember, when the very world itself was alive, and mortal races were but guests on Her skin. They have come back to the world through the cry of the forests, the mass encroachment of civilization, and they come with a message of peace. Offering to teach harmony with nature, so in return to reap its bounty. To this end, they are accepting of all races, blesses with a slow and gentle patience. As they see even elves and fey as children to the natural world, they also come off as slightly superior and doting.
Yet, they are also naive, and do not truly understand the concepts of hatred and betrayal - concepts that they are being forced to learn ever faster as they journey.

Physical Description: Small and willowy, Atropa are humanoid in shape. The Atropa were one of the first races created by the young Lords of Creation, and some of them maintain that they were the template on which all other humanoid races were based (Or, as they say Atropoid). They stand between five, and five and a half feet tall with young, chiselled features. As they are not true humans, though, the Atropa do not age as humans do. Their skin, and perfectly formed facial features remain frozen from the moment they achieve adulthood to the moment they die. It is through their hair, or the equivalent of it, that shows how an Atropa ages. On an adult Atropa, his or her hair descends from their heads in a bright green curtain, that never stops growing as they age. Actually made of fine grasses and vine-like plant tendrils, their hair is really a mobile and vibrant part of their bodies, as well as being how an Atropa feeds - through Photosynthesis. Two large, budlike pods are fully prehensile, and through an act of will, an Atropa can cause these pods to bloom into beautiful flowers that exude a sweet, calming scent. As an Atropa ages, their hair and buds grow, an inch or so every decade, until it trails the ground as they walk. The growth also changes colour with the season, going from bright, sea green in the spring, to a rich emerald in the summer, to burning reds and oranges in the autumn, to a faded chestnut in the winter. The eldest Atropa see themselves as separate from the season, as they can cause their hair to change colour at a moments' notice.

Relations: The Atropa were once given the duty of keeping the young mortal races in harmony with nature, and nature in harmony with the world itself. However, through their long sleep, they have become lax in their duties. They go into the world as teachers and ancient elders, to try to turn the world back to the natural order of things. Humans and Dwarves can be leery of the Atropa, for this very reason, as dwarves know best their deep homes, and forests are an exotic concept to most, and humans typically take offence at anyone trying to tell them how to live. Some rural communities are more receptive, along with a lot of the nature oriented races, such as the elves, and druid circles, and many have been known to adopt an Atropa, especially if he is willing to help come growing season.
Mostly, civilized folk see the Atropa as nature spirits, and are wary to trust them, when they have listened to the stories of the fickle Fey for too long.
The Atropa, however, remain accepting of all races, as their world altering vision is so large that it would have to except everything into its weave, or fail. Because of this, though, the Atropa tend not to see the day-to-day business of the world beneath their vision, and as the flighty mortal races scurry and battle, and opinions change in the blink of an eye, talks with the Atropa can become strained, as they sometimes do not see the problems their grand vision would bring.

Alignment: Young Atropa are typically of good, or more often neutral alignment. Most come into the world, also, with a lawful bent. Only those who have begun to go 'native' amongst the younger races have begun to swing towards chaotic alignments.

Religion: The Atropa respect nature above all, and often worship nature deities such as Obad-hai, as well as nature spirits. Pelor is becoming popular with young Atropa, though, as well as minor deities of earth and rain.

Language: The Atropa speak an ancient form of Sylvan, swearing that it was the original form of the language of the forests. Additionally, they have learnt common and Elven to help them in the world. Atropa hardly ever write on plant based materials, preferring instead to use parchment and wax tablets.

Names: The names of the Atopa are the natural sounds of the forest, and as such are typically unpronounceable by mortal throats. Many Atropa adopt human or Elven names, whilst others live by monikers or nicknames given to them by companions.

Adventurers: Atropa Adventurers are rare but active. They make friends readily with elves, gnomes, and some humans. Most other races regard them with indifference at best and suspicion or fright at worst. The honest demeanours of Atropa typically win over hesitant acquaintances.

Atropa Racial Traits:

+2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma, -2 Strength: Atropa make good use of their serene dispositions and calming perfume, making them appealing to other races. They are also perceptive of their world. However, their thin-limbed bodies are relatively weak.
Medium: As Medium size creatures, Atropa suffer no special bonuses or penalties due to size.
Atropa base land speed is 30ft
Plant: As creatures of the plant type, an Atropa is immune to all mind effecting effects, poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning. They are not subject to critical hits. Atropa do not need sleep. Atropa spell casters must still rest for 8 hours to regain spells. They are immune to spells and effects that only effect humanoids, such as Charm Person. However, they can still be effected by spells such as Charm Monster and those that specifically effect plant creatures.
Photosynthesis: Atropa consume only one-quarter the rations of a human of similar size. In essence, they are omnivorous plants. They can gain sustenance from eatin animal or vegatable matter, in small amounts. This ability only works if they are allowed at least four hours of direct sunlight; otherwise, they must eat as much as a human. Atropa prefer vegetable matter over animal flesh, but many younger Atropa have developed a taste for meat.
Photoregeneration: Atropa who are allowed to rest in sunlight with at least a gallon of water to consume heal twice their level in hit points per day. If active during this time, they gain hit points back at the normal rate. In darkness, they gain hit points back at the normal rate.
Atropa can re-grow severed limbs (but not heads). It takes approximately 1 month to regrow a limb, during which time an Atropa can do nothing but rest and perform light activity. Complete bed rest cuts this time in half.
+4 racial bonus on diplomacy and Perform checks: Atropa express themselves well, with beautiful looks and bright flowers, as well as their calming scent.
-4 penalty on Bluff and Sense Motive Checks: Due to their inherently trusting nature, Atropa find it hard to discern lies.
+4 bonus to Survival Checks: Atropa always consider Survival a class skill, as they have an innate link to the natural world.
Low-Light Vision: An Atropa can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and other conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail under these conditions.
Vulnerability to fire: Atropa take half again as much (50%) damage from fire.
Spell-Like ability: 1/day - Speak With Plants. Caster Level 1st
Automatic Languages: Common, Elven, and Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnome, Halfling, Giant, and Gnoll. Atropa know the languages of their allies, and are quick to learn the tongues of possible friends.
Favoured Class: Druid. An Atropas’ druid levels do not count when determining experience point penalties for multiclassing (See the player's handbook, page 60). Knowledge of the wild comes naturally to the Atropa.
Level Adjustment: +1. An Atropa with one class level is treated as a second level character for the purposes of awarding the character experience, for starting equipment, and for determining how many experience points the character needs to gain a new level.

Tried to come up with a viable plant-type race. How do people think I did?

A well-done plant race. I don't think it'd be too unbalanced at just a +1 LA.

I especially love their appearance and the fine details such as the blooming, calming flowers. Nice!

wow, nice, I personally like there healing abilities, such as Photoregeneration, powerful but not overpowered; same with the regeneration of limbs, seems very situational, and at higher level you'd be better off getting a regeneration spell cast on you.

I agree with Soel Griffin, you may be able to put them as LA 1 because they're aren't really powerful especially in a game set underground which could call for a situational LA drop anyway.

as two people have said it, I'll drop the LA by 1 point. If anyone is interested, the Atropa were created for the Tome of Form (in my Sig) which is an ongoing book that I'm writing. Feel free to take a look.
Thanks
