The best prestige class [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-06-07, 10:10 PM im making a a character for a friend and he knows hes ganna do a prestige class he ask me which was the best, so now im here in your case what do you think is the best and why (if its a made up one include ALL info)

06-06-07, 10:14 PM Why is this on the Races forum? It should either go to the Classes or What's a Player to Do? forums or oto the Character Optimization boards. And once you're there, make sure to list some info about the character for which you're searching a prestige class: race, alignment, base class, even just the character's type (melee fighter, stealth, arcane blaster, healer, archer, etc.) There are way too many good prestige classes available to list them all.

06-07-07, 03:40 AM Okay, except Planar Shepherd being insane, can we get a clue as to what your friend is playing? I could say off the top of my head "Incantatrix", but it's not very good for a ranger.

06-07-07, 03:11 PM Best is highly subjective to say the least what are you looking for, fun, or power or just over all interesting?

Here are my favorites and why....
Arcane Heirophant (RoW) Combining druid powers with arcane spells and most importantly (to me) gives you one awesome pet. Taking feats the max your caster lvl and compaion makes for a highly versitile character.

Planar Shepard is a very power class overall and can probably be considered too powerful if you don't watch it. Never actually played one but will try it eventually, looks to be a very heavy bookwork character.

Dragonheart Mage (RoD) not the most powerful class but definatly one of the most flavorful particularly with the right race (ie. kobold)

Renigade Mastermaker (MoE) again not the most powerful class ever made but flavor is great think magitek from final fantasy.

Master of Many Forms (CpAd) In raw power it doesn't match up to the Planar Shepard or Master Transmogrfist but in overall versitility it can be considered the best. Huge amount of bookwork is involved with this class.

Incantrix (Players Guide to Faerun) If you want to play a metamagic junky this is it no class blends Metamagic with easy like this one.

Initiate of the Seven Fold Veils (CpArc) Can you say mostly unkillable?

Master Transmogrofist (CpArc) Lot of bookwork but a powergamer can turn this class into a nightmare.

Warshaper (CpWar) This prc with the right weretemplate makes for an ungodly tank. Can work with wildshaper classes and PcRs but note that it itself doesnt advance your wildshape abilities (ie HD and types of forms).

Summoner (Relics and Rituals 2 by Sword and Sorcery) Best summoner class out there bar none but its out of wizards stuff and can be sometimes hard to find.

First of all, what type of character is he playing? Warrior, arcanist, divine spellcaster, skill monkey, etc.?

Because you know, Planar Shepherd isn't going to be helpful to a warblade, and Master of Nine isn't going to be helpful to a druid.

amen to that. my friends and I are still debating if its legal but I had a barbarian/frenzied berzerker/berzerk half orc. berzerk is from deiteis and demigods. three differant kinds of rage, and how I read the rules they all stack. if its legal it is frickin incredible my dm had to send a dragon after me and a dragon after the rest of the group and I killed my dragon intime to go help out the rest of the group with theres. a little unfair I know but it was fun to play I believe I got it up to level 17 but I don't know how much in each class.

This only deserves mention because of Pun-Pun, other than that its pretty useless. Why would a druid want to lose caster levels?

Agreed, this is one of the best sorcerer PrCs ever.

Warshaper isn't that great with lycanthropes because they have a LA and monster hit dice, but a changeling warshaper can make an ungodly tank. Changelings can be found in Eberron Campaign Setting, Races of Eberron, and Monster Manual 3.
Frenzied Berzerker from the Complete Warrior.
Agreed, as long as you don't mind killing your own party when you run out of enemies to kill (or have figured out one of the dozen ways around it).

Eldritch Disciple.
At it's most abusive, you take a one level hit (Warlock) from your Cleric progression. After that, you use D10 instead of D8, and progress in both.

And you get immortality after only 10 levels!

It is not that difficult to make a level 7 character that meets all the requirements and has 17-> in Will save, and since the DC of the Will save to get out of a frenzy is only 20, and you get +2 on will saves during a rage - you will only miss on a natural 1...

My group uses core books + complete xxx books + classes and feats in miniature handbook, and I made a frenzy build using those books that looked good a few weeks ago :D

I don't allow them in my game. I feel you get far too many/too powerful abilities "balanced" by things that can be easily circumvented.

That, and it makes no sense from an RP standpoint. Metagame, it's awesome to have a nearly invicible tank in the group. RP, who wants to travel with someone who may or may not try to cut you with an axe!?!

I only posted it because I thought it was strong mechanically.

Although Abjurant Champion from the Complete Mage is pretty good too, espescially if the DM allows the primary ability to apply to Mage Armor.

06-20-07, 03:48 PM One class i feel deserves a mention is bloodstorm blade. If you optomize this right, you can have pretty good character. Throwing Fullblades at like 8 enemies at once.

06-21-07, 10:47 AM In my opinion, the Thrallherder in the Expanded Psionics.

My DM hated me for just mass producing characters since you followers can die with no penalty to you and you get a new fighter in 24 hours. It's exactly what a Psion needs, unlimited meatbags.
