| Japan_the_cougar10-15-07, 04:21 PM | A new month, a new homebrew from yours truely! First, I wrote this maybe five months ago at the earliest and with limited information on the backstory of the "Blue Man". I imagined them as a human subrace, but was told after the fact that they are actually aliens. Now, I didn't change it because: 1. I'm lazy and 2. My way was easier to figure out and made more sense. I recently got a call from one of my friends that I gave the draft to, and he was impressed with the results, so I need to know how the rest of the world feels. Legalese: Blue man (C)...the blue man group? Blue Man The blue men are an enigmatic human sub-race that do not speak; it is unknown if they are mute or they just choose not to. Because they don’t speak, they instead express themselves through music, specifically the primal beat of the drums. These drums are made from pipes discarded by other races, which are often worn as a harness. Blue men look just like you would think. They are blue-skinned humanoids that possess no body hair. They often have blue eyes as well and dress in dark clothing. No females of the species have been seen, so it is unknown how they reproduce or if there are females at all; this is the reason they are called blue “men”. They stand between 5.5 and 6.5 feet tall and average 180 pounds. Though blue men don’t speak, they understand Common and virtually any other language they encounter. Between themselves, they communicate through Blue Sign, a complex form of body language that relays large amounts of information through exacting nuances. Society The blue men have their own small villages near or within humanoid settlements, often near the communal refuse dumps. Blue men have ingenious brains, and have developed a knack for taking the trash of others and turning it into something wonderful. The pipe drums are the most well known example of this, but entire villages are often built out of junk. They raise indigenous plants and animals for food, often eating in a large communal area with the rest of the village. When outside of their normal homes, blue men have noticed they are often stared at. This is not because of some revulsion, though. There is some unexplainable air about them that fascinates other beings. Their unique performances are sights to behold, being such departures from the standard singers most see. Adventures Blue men live to perform and adapt. Most adventure to show off their special brand of entertainment to the world. Others leave to find out what makes everything around them so different. Still more go to find new junk and create all new conveyances that they will be remembered for. Names As to be expected, blue men don’t have name that are easily recognized in the Common tongue. Most use a series of drum notes to identify themselves to others of their kind. While in a group of foreigners, they will accept nicknames, so long as they don’t offend them. Alignment Most blue men are neutral good. Evil members are virtually non-existent, so ingrained is the need to integrate with others. Religion Blue men worship their own god, Exenous. He appears as a mass of refuse with several pipes sticking out as appendages. Exenous represents the ingenuity of the blue men to live off what others leave behind and create their own unique world. Clerics of Exenous have access to the Community, Craft, Creation, and Good domains. Blue man statistics -: +2 Int, -2 Wis, +2 Cha Blue men are smart to a fault, limiting common sense. However, they are quite captivating to others. -: +2 to Perform (Percussion). Perform (Percussion) is always a class skill for blue men. -: Bonus feat at 1st level: Blue men still have the adaptability of their human “cousins”. -: Mute: Blue men cannot speak. This is not from a vow of silence, but a physical inability to vocalize. They can still make grunts and other sounds, but cannot form words. Blue man spellcasters cannot cast spells with non-musical verbal components unless they take the Silent Spell or Nonverbal Spell feats. -: Languages: Common, Blue Sign. Bonus Languages: Any -: Favored Class: Bard |
