| Fencerboy03-12-07, 10:40 PM | First off, my players just created new characters after the group changed around quite a bit. A Rock Gnome Wizard 5, a Forest Gnome Rogue 5 and I will DMPC a Warforged Knight 5. The forest gnome player wants his character to be on the shorter side for his race, even if only bey a couple inches. The problem is, he ended up 2'3". That is way to small. He argues that he should be Tiny instead, in the line of optimizing his sneakiness. I said no, and, as a DM, my word is law. However, this seems like a bigger issue than just his one character. What is the technichal distinction, or is their none? Your thoughts please. |
| shah_003-12-07, 11:40 PM | There is a table (2-4) on page 29 of the DMG 3.5 that discusses creature sizes. According to that, a Tiny creature can have a maximum height of 2 ft. Sorry to your player . . . . If you look at the generators for height/weight they are designed specifically so that a character can't change size categories based on their role. Just as it prevents a small halfling/gnome from being Tiny, it prevents a tall human from being Large. |

What is the technichal distinction, or is their none? Your thoughts please. He barely fits into the small range (2'-4'), just as some dwarves barely fit the Medium range. If you don't see an issue wiht it, you can let him drop about 4 inches. It's hardly game breaking, and gives him something to worry about (I curse you to GROW). Several third party sources have a feat that allows you to drop to the next lowest size catagory. See if it's worth a feat and the drawbacks for him. Of course, he's going to have a hard time dealing with all those school kids... ;) |
| Grave_Accomplice03-13-07, 03:57 AM | just say HAHAHAHA LAWN GNOME Beware the garden gnome!!! A third party source has one listed as a race. Tiny size, chaotic evil by nature, favored class is enchanter (built for 3.0), and once per day can stand still. Those that fail a Will save see a garden gnome and don't question it, even if it wasn't there before. You have been warned... :evillaugh |
| crimsonwolf03-13-07, 09:03 AM | na.. naa.. naot game breaking..... tiny size +0 la ...+8 bonuses...+2 ac....rouge/sorrcer here i Come :DD:D:D:D:D |
| obrysii03-13-07, 09:07 AM | Whoa, Crimson, please use a spellchecker. Tiny size is a bit powerful, but remember that a drop in a size category radically decreases physical strength. |
| Zumarai03-13-07, 09:37 AM | Beware the garden gnome!!! Yes, over here in the UK they attack me quite often. |
