We had a player that wanted to play something different, and who had actually written one of these into one of his own games some time ago, so I statted it out and put it in the game. He'll have the opportunity, later, to buy off the +2 LA. Given that, do you think that this creature is LA'd appropriately, and is something that someone might want to play? Ikrigal IK-kre-gahl Created as mage-slayers and assassins during the height of the Akkanian Empire, the immortal Ikrigal still serve the Akkanian elites today. Reports from those that have seen an Ikrigal on the hunt have described them changing their shape, turning spells back upon their enemies, and striking their prey with bolts of lightning. In much of Akkan, Ikrigal are folk heroes: they are the mysterious stranger that arrives to stop predatory Mujabis from razing a village, or the elderly farmer who walks through a fire to save a child, or the highwayman who steals the Guldir's tribute caravan and distributes it to the poor. There seems to have only been a brief period during which Ikrigal were created: interviews in the modern era reveal that most of them were created between twelve hundred and thirteen-hundred years ago, at the very height of the Akkanian Empire's power. Texts from that era imply that they are an Inevitable and a human soul bound within the same body. If the Ikrigal know the secrets of their birth, they have never divulged them. Unfortunately, their creation coincided with the beginning of the Empire's catastrophic decline: originally a weapon used against Mujabi spellcasters, the archmages of the High College turned them first into an Imperial secret police, and then into an instrument of their own power, hunting Akkanian hedge-mages -- the source of much magical innovation -- to extinction. In the modern era, most have gone rogue. Only a half-dozen – many more powerful than the "mages" they serve -- remain in the service of the High College. The rest are either dead, inert, or have returned to life amongst the Akkanians, impersonating mortals. When rogue Ikrigal are discovered, it is seldom in positions of power. They seem content as peasants, merchants, or day laborers -- and when their immortality begins to make townsfolk question, they seem content to move on. In their natural form, Ikrigal are sleekly-built but muscular humanoids. Skin tone ranges from angry pink to dark grey, but always has a peculiar waxy-slick character. The first and last letters of the Akkanian alphabet are burned into their body in eight places: the backs of their hands, their cheeks, their back, and their thighs. Though no Ikrigal are recorded to have died in the modern era, the classical Akkanian magical text A Polemic Against the Shackles of Flesh records that the body of an Ikrigal contains no organs: it appears to be a human corpse filled with parchment strips, stone talismans, and brass clockwork.
