ZocckCastlestorm 02-23-07, 03:24 PM	Fact: Elan are MADE, not born.(XPH) Question; What happens to the Human-turned-Elan regarding Love/Sex/Procreation? A) Do they lose all Gender? (Doubt it, though, the XPH would have said it) B) Do they Become Sterile? (A reasonable possibility. Have fun, but no kids) C) Do they Lose all interest in Love/Romance/Sex? (Odd, but possible) D) Other?:confused:
kaionon 02-23-07, 03:30 PM	They're obviously not gender neutral. But as for the ability to procreate I do not think they would be able to. As it stated (IIRC) that all Elan are made then they are likely just sterile and it would be up to the individual as to if they're intrested in romance and such. Though it would be intersted character to be a Natural born Elan.
Kintara 02-23-07, 03:42 PM	I imagine they have sex drives, but none of that procreation baggage. Anyway, the fact that they are technically aberrations can make this question really quite squicky. Sure, they look human enough from the outside....
Millennium 02-23-07, 03:51 PM	One of the examples in Weapons of Legacy belonged to a human with an elan lover. This would seem to indicate both that elans have gender and that they have drives. My guess is that either they're totally sterile or that their children are ordinary humans, who could then be transformed into elan when they become adults. You could go either way on something like that.

pukunui 02-23-07, 07:16 PM	It says this right in the first paragraph on elans in the XPH: ... elans do not reproduce biologically, but rather psionically, through a mysterious psionic ritual known only to elans. Even then, their “children” are usually already fully formed adult humans. To me, this is a pretty clear indication that elans become sterile and that some older elans view younger ones as their "children", even though they are most likely not related biologically. Now there's an intriguing thought: if you had a whole family of humans undergo the transformation ritual, would they still consider themselves one family afterwards?
Banatine 02-24-07, 12:16 PM	i would think so. becoming elan doesn't change your personality or emotions (unlike, say, becoming dragon born). I see no reason why they wouldn't still be a family. as for intimate relationships, i wouldn't see why they are any differant to humans. Of course, it says they are abbarations, but that just means they are no longer human, and as such are no longer effected by the things humans are.
The Crystal Mind 02-25-07, 12:26 AM	The aberration type is given to "monsters" that have abnormal physiology, an alien mindset, or something else (don't remember). Therefore, I think that becoming an elan changes their mindset, and, to a limited degree, their physiology, but leaves them capable of reproducing, with humans resulting as offspring. Thus, we have a way for humans to get the Aberration Blooded feat from Lords of Madness :D
sooperspook 02-25-07, 07:34 AM	I think they are aberrations because of physiology more than mindset. Adventuring Elans show pretty much the same motivations everyone else does. It's the fact that they are immortal and can now thrive on pure psionic energy naturally, that makes them aberrations. In fact, as far as I know, they are the only non outsiders who never die of old age. Even dragons drop off eventually.
