| oddman06-01-07, 11:55 AM | I'm looking for races that have the opposite of the Goliath's (and half-giants) "powerful build" racial ability. (The one that lets them count as large creatures in certain cases.) That is, I'd like a medium race that can count as small in certain cases. (Or small that counts as tiny, etc.) Extra points for finding something like this as a template or feat (or anything) that could be added to humans. |
| Metafictional06-01-07, 12:35 PM | Wouldn't it be easier to make a Small-sized Race with "Powerful Build" for the same result? Just asking, because I think "Weaker Build" would be disadvantageous more often than not. |
| Tusalu06-01-07, 12:45 PM | I think there was a similar variant ability for kobolds. But I havenīt got a clue on where it was presented. |

Do you want something that counts as equal size or smaller when it's an advantage or when it's a disadvantage? I think there is an ability called slight build (I'm not sure of the source) that counts as either size when it's an advantage. |
| oddman06-01-07, 01:42 PM | Robbypants, I'm definitely looking for the ability to make the PC count as small when it's an advantage. For example, a medium PC with "slight build" (let's just call it that for now) would be able to ride a medium mount if he wanted to. Or eight medium NPC's with slight build could grapple a single medium PC, instead of the standard four. A small race with powerful build is a good idea, too. Are there any races like that? Or do you all think the best thing would be to just homebrew a race or ability? |

Or eight medium NPC's with slight build could grapple a single medium PC, instead of the standard four. Well, I'm 95% certain that the ability is called 'slight build', but I'm not quite sure to what abilities it extends. The problem is, I don't know what book it's detailed in. Perhaps, with the search engine up and running again, you can run a search for it... A small race with powerful build is a good idea, too. Are there any races like that? Or do you all think the best thing would be to just homebrew a race or ability? I haven't seen any, but that doesn't really mean anything. From what I gather, a small race with powerful build gains a lot less than a medium race with it. I can't say for sure, but it might not even be enough to bump up the level adjustment, depending on what else comes with the race... |
| oddman06-01-07, 01:59 PM | Following up on Tusalo's comment, I found this: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a I think it's reasonable to extend this ability to riding mounts and other "smaller is better" situations. |

| CrimsonDeath06-01-07, 02:09 PM | I think someone on the CO board was thinking of using a Kobold's Slight Built trait with feats like Clever Wrestling that grant bonuses based on the number of size categories difference between you and your opponent. A friend and I were also joking about a kobold using a heavily enchanted weapon dropped by a pixie that his party fought... |
| periscope06-01-07, 02:10 PM | I think they said one could give it to kobolds to make them a little more powerful and appealing. Slight build would basically apply if taking advantage of cover, going through tunnels, hiding, escape artist (I think), using small sized weapons and equipment (smaller weapons=easier to hide) you'll count as one size smaller (so if medium thats a +4 to hide checks). It could mean your a runt. Or you have good "scrunchability". Or your a contortionist. |
| This_Dude06-01-07, 02:11 PM | Just make Midgets out of any standard Medium sized race. The world could use more Midgets, there's never enough. |

A small race with powerful build is a good idea, too. Are there any races like that? Or do you all think the best thing would be to just homebrew a race or ability? Redcaps from the MMIII are small and have Powerful Build. |
