| Rykler06-26-07, 01:28 PM | if a tiefling and an Aasamir have a child, what benifits, if any, does the child get? or in this case, does it just become human? |
| Rerecros06-26-07, 01:49 PM | nothing official, but there is this. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=352160 |
| GrogMcGee06-26-07, 02:08 PM | The book Bastards and Bloodlines has rules on how to create a half-breed. First choose which creature is the base and which the donner. Ability Score Bonuses: Subtract 10 if even 11 if odd. Divide by 2. eg: Str 21 confers a +5 (21-11)/2=5 Skills: Keep the ones that are most iconic to the race. Feats Keep any feats that seem iconic, eg, Shot on the Run for Beholders. So an Aasamir-Tiefling would look something like this: Aasamir: Base Tiefling: Donner Template for a "Human" (Should Not be applied to an Aasamir) Race becomes Half-Aasamir/Half-Tiefling Str +1 Dex +1 Con +1 Int +1 Wis +1 Cha +0 Skills +2 hide, +2 Bluff, +2 spot, +2 listen (Change as you feel) Special Darkness or Daylight (Up to the DM and you which one you get or both) resist cold, fire, electricity, acid 5 (Aasamir get all four, Tieflings don't get acid - work out with DM) Darkvision 60ft (Both have it) Since Aasamir and Tieflings are templates already you might just want to combine the ability bonuses and half them, eg, +1 dex, +1 Int, +1 Wis, +1 Cha. I admit this is much the same, but it removes the plus to Str and Con which is not part of the planetouched template. I'm not sure if this helps and I will admit that Bastards and Bloodlines does produce really wierd results sometimes. |
| Rykler06-26-07, 02:20 PM | thanks |

I suppose another option would be to create a more powerful race that has both benifits. This makes sense in that they really qualify for both races. The problem is that it would be about LA +1 1/2, which would probably round up to an unplayably weak LA +2. The simple solution is to pick a dominant race, and just count it as that, rather than some mangled half-breed. |

Because both are templates already they don't really combine well since their abilities are defined by 3d6's. However, those bonuses come from the example lvl 1 Tiefling (13, 13, 12, 12, 9, 6). Str (13-11)/2 = 1 Con (12-10)/2 = 1 I agree though that it would likely be better to use sort of combination of both - honestly if I were to use such a race in an adventure I think I'd just say you get 1/2 the normal ability adjustments of both. So +1 dex, +1 Int, +1 Wis, +1 Cha. In fact I think that's the best method that I can think of. |

Those stats listed in the Monster Manual are for a 1st level warrior with the following stats: 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, as opposed to all 10s and 11s. In 3.5, you can't simply calculate the ability adjustments from the monster entry of creatures with no racial hit dice (although it does work on monsters with RHD). That's an old 3.0 trick. To figure out the stats, you have to look at the "Aasimar as Characters" and "Tieflings as Characters" sections at the end of the monster entry. Their actual stats are as follows: Aasimar: +2 Wis, +2 Cha Tiefling: +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Cha Well, at least that cleared up some confusion on my part for how you got those numbers. :) So, for your averaging trick, you might get something closer to: +2 Dex, +2 Int, +2 Wis, +2 Cha, -2 Cha, which equals +2 Dex, +2 Int, +2 Wis, divided by two is: +1 Dex, +1 Int, +1 Wis. Although, I've never approved of odd ability score adjustments, but that's a topic for a different thread. ;) |
| Elemental_Elf06-26-07, 04:39 PM | Or you could just say the strength of their respective bloodlines are so powerful that the child will come out as only 1 or the other. |
| Rykler06-26-07, 07:57 PM | Yeah i was going to have a dominant at first, but then i wanted a little of bit of each. Maybe i could take my choice of two positive ability scores and forget the rest. For example, maybe the child will get teh +2 dexterity bonus from the tiefling and the +2 charisma bonus from the aasamir. All the rest would be dropped and the level adjustment would still be +1. good idea? |
| bahamut92006-26-07, 08:11 PM | Aasling (Tentative Name) Aaslings are the results of the incredibly rare matings between an aasimar and a tiefling. While they sometimes show hints of their ancestry, most appear to be human in every way. Aaslings are humanoids with the planetouched and human subtypes. Aaslings are Medium creatures, with no bonuses or penalties due to size. Aasling base speed is 30 feet. Aaslings have darkvision out to 60 feet. Light and Shadow (Sp): Aaslings have the ability to control the level of ambient light around them. An aasling may enhance the level of light around himself to make a candle as bright as a torch, or may reduce normal illumination to shadowy illumination. Each function of this ability may be used once per day, and may not be used in complete darkness or full daylight. Light from the light source must enter the aasling's square to be subject to this ability. Aaslings gain four bonus skill points at first level, and one at every level after first. Automatic Languages: Common and a one of Celestial, Abyssal, or Infernal. Aaslings speak one of the languages of their grandparents. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Auran, Celestial, Draconic, Ignan, Infernal, Terran. As planetouched, aaslings often find planar languages easier to understand. Favored Class: Any. An aasling's highest-level class is considered to be his favored class when considering multiclass experience. Level Adjustment: +0. Aaslings are balanced for play with the other races from the Player's Handbook. Not sure about the level adjustment. Are these LA +0, or LA +1? I'd err on the side of +0, maybe even giving them the human bonus skill point. |
| zae06-26-07, 08:24 PM | Aasling (Tentative Name) *giggling childishly* Ass-sling. I'd suggest a different name for the race. I pretty much explained why. |
| bahamut92006-26-07, 08:46 PM | Note the "Tentative Name" in parenthesis. I knew some suitably immature person would come along and mock the name, but I couldn't think of a better one, and "Teifimar" was utterly retarded. Now if you have any comments on the crunch of the race, I'd like to hear them. But if you popped in just to make poop jokes... |
| zae06-27-07, 03:58 AM | But if you popped in just to make poop jokes... No, I really did. All kidding aside, I'd tentatively call it a +0 and see how it goes from there. The whole "+2 to something with no negatives, oh noes!" factor never really struck me as that major, but your mileage will vary heavily here. Possibly give them the extra skill points and another small benefit and call it +1. Perhaps the ability to count as both Good and Evil for the purposes of taking feats, prestige classes, spells and magic items? This would let a Good crossbreed Cleric cast Evil spells or wield an Unholy weapon, likewise an Evil crossbreed could take Exalted feats. The power of that ability would vary with (ab)use, thus combined with everything else would make a comfortable +1. Otherwise, I'd say +0 and wait for someone to argue. |
| Rulebook06-27-07, 08:42 AM | well, seeing as there's nothing saying Planetouched breed true (except for Fey-ri) i'd there'd be a 90% chance of it being an ordinary human child. |
| Seldriss06-27-07, 11:10 AM | I would recommend Wis +2 & Cha +2, to reflect the different mind and the magnetism of such a crossbreed... |
| Rykler06-27-07, 11:30 AM | I am pretty sure those are both Aasamir traits "+2 wisdom and +2 charisma". I would give it maybe +2 Intellect and +2 charisma, thus making it a combination. Then again it all depends on how much the baby inheriets from the parents. So maybe there are a couple of possibilities: +2 Wisdom(Aasamir), +2 intellect(tiefling) +2 Charisma(aasamir), +2 Dexterity (tiefling) +2 Wisdom (aasamir), +2 Dexterity (tiefling) +2 Charisma (aasamir), +2 intellect(tiefling) then you would flip a coin maybe and if it is heads you get darkness and tails you get daylight, or you could take a combination of the two like someone earlier posted. The get darkvision and favored class is the highest class. Deffinetly have the +1 level adjustment and have the child speak common and bonus language, either celestial or abyssal or infernal. Thats what i thought... |
| bahamut92006-27-07, 06:56 PM | Um, tieflings get Int, not Wis? Then definitely dump the Wis bonus on mine, and give the +1 human skill point. Still LA +0, then, I think... |
| AMGriffin06-27-07, 07:05 PM | Well, seeing as how Aasimar and Tiefling Children just pop up every once in a while in families to the joy (or displeasure) of their families, I'd figure that if Tiefling and Aasimar had kids, the chlid in question would most likely be human. But that's boring...you can take a Tiefling/Aasimar and give it the major celestial/fiendish bloodline traits. For an all new race, I'd suggest going with +2 Wisdom, +2 Intelligence for ability mods. Aasimar and Tieflings both have keener minds then humans, so those traits would probably stick as opposed to charm or agility. |
