I actually think that tieflings are a little on the weak side because they don't get much for their +1 level adjustment. Some small resists, darkness once a day and an extra +2 stat bonus above what most races get. The rest of the stuff is actually pretty common. In the long run, the abilities you'd get as a member of a high level class or prestige class (such as another level of casting, some BAB, a hit die and likely some special ability beyond that) will completely outpace these racial bonuses. Even in the very short term, you'll have half the hitpoints of a level 2 human rogue, for example.

Whats great about the tiefling is the flavour, though. There is a lot of great roleplaying fun to be had, since this is one of the few fiend-related races that isn't automaticly evil.

I turned the Tiefling Race into a template.

Did the Same for Aasimar.

They can be applied to any humanoid, monstrous humanoid, or giant.

I did too, as well for genasi and some other planetouched.
They all make pretty good half-planars templates for many races.
No reason for the humans to be the only ones to have all the fun :D

Agreed. But are there any other nonevil fiend related races?

As a matter of fact, alignment is a matter of choice for some individuals.
Of course, many don't get this choice, as they are living in a special environment, and are conditioned to live, act, behave and think in a conventional way, according to the culture, tradition, dogma...
But there is always a chance for a maverick, a different one.
A drow can be neutral or even good (and we all know at least one), and elf can be evil, a dwarf can be intelligent (ok , there is very little chance for that).
So the child of a fiend doesn't have to be evil.
Think about Merlin ;)

As templates, half-whatevers (tieflings, half-fiends, cambions) don't have to follow the tracks of their fiendish parent.
That's even more interesting if they have access to some fiendish powers but cannot call them without being tainted by them (cf. Spawn).
Resisting their heritage and corruption gives great opportunities for roleplaying.

The Tiefling(as a template) works very well mechanically.

A drow can be neutral or even good (and we all know at least one)

See Below:

The whole species consists of nothing but Chaotic Good rebels, yearning to throw off the reputation of their evil kin.

Wow. Don't like Dwarves do ye? Dwarves make fine Wizards and last time I checked, a high intelligence score is a great boon to said spellcasters.

Well, the +2 Dex and Int is quite nice for a rogue, the -2 Cha is a bit of a let down for two reasons:

A lot of nice rogue skills are Cha based (Bluff, Intimidate, Disguise, etc...).
They end up with a net +2 on abilities, while the aasimar end up with +4 (as they have no -2 stat).

I do love the flavor of them, but generally speaking, I think you can get more bang for your buck by just going straight rogue. That extra class level can really come in handy...

...although, you get nothing at rogue 20, so maybe a 19 level tiefling rogue is better... :P
