Trollkin are the descendants of an ancient empire of halfbreed trolls. Most tribes of trollkin are very territorial, raiding
settlements and claiming the land for their own. A few tribes, however, struggle to overcome the savagery of their ancestors.
All trollkin are excellent hunters, and make much of their clothing and jewelry from bone and hide.
Trollkin males are usually 6 to 7 feet tall and weigh around 200 pounds, with females being slightly smaller. Trollkin speak
Common and Giant. The smarter trollkin learn the languages of their enemies.

Monstrous Recovery: A trollkin's metabolism allows her to heal at an astonishing rate. Trollkin heal 1 hit point per hour in
addition to natural healing, and recover 1 point of nonlethal damage per character level every 5 minutes. As further proof of her troll heritage, she can regrow a lost body part with 24 hours complete bed rest, and reattach or repair a damaged body part with 8 hours of sleep. A trollkin must consume three times as much food while regrowing a lost body part, or be fatigued the next day.

Giant Blood: For all special abilities and effects, a trollkin is considered a giant. Trollkin can use giant weapons and magic items
with racially specific giant powers as if they were giants.

here are the basics of the paragon class.

level 1, they get to auto-stabilize whenever reduced to -1 or lower, and possibly get the feat i made for the race, Trollkin Rend.

Trollkin Rend: If a trollkin hits with both claw attacks, they can rend, automatically dealing 2d4 + one and a half str bonus.

level 2, either their Monstrous recovery gets better, or (if its not too overpowered) they get fast healing 1.

level 3 they get +2 con.

any thoughts?

EDIT: heres the trollkin paragon class for alpha testing! WARNING: It may suck!

Pivateer Press has a Trollkin in their Iron Kingdoms setting. Maybe it can give you some ideas. I think they are a bit more humanoid than what you have, but they have:

AA: +2Str +4Con -2Dex -2Cha
Move:30ft
Darkvision: 60ft
Improved Healing: heal twice as fast as normal/regrows limbs very slowly-months
Posion Resistance:
+4 vs posion
+2 vs diease
damage reduction fron NON-lethal damage
LA:+1

I think yours is around +1, but I'm not sure. Monstrous Recovery is whats making me unsure. Fast healing can get out of hand. Sorry I'm not more help.

thanks for pointing me to the ones from Iron Kingdoms, it's useful for balancing. about the monstrous healing, is it the 1hp/hour, or the regrowth rate of body parts that makes it powerful?

my reasoning for the paragon class being powerful is the beginning of the paragon class section of Unearthed Arcana. it says that paragon classes for level adjusted races should be more powerful than those for non-LA. since racial bonuses become less useful in later levels, it helps a powerful race keeps its edge.

in a bit of a bind making the paragon class. im trying to figure out how powerful different levels of faster healing are.

How powerful is, say:
a)the 1hp/hour from Monstrous Recovery?
b)3hp/hour?
c)Fast Healing 1?

a) (reserved for future question)
b)would 1hp/20 minutes be more powerful than 3hp/hour? (assuming they didnt get the 3hp back until the full hour had passed)
c) Also, at what character level would Fast Healing 1 be balanced?

This is really cool! Could I use it for my Iron Kingdoms-inspired setting? Fast healing is a pain in the a*s for GMs when PCs have it. I like your downscaled version.

feel free! the only thing i ask is for you to post how it plays here in the thread, for i need feedback to polish it up. i cannot playtest it in either of my groups, since one is playing 3.5 dark sun, and the other one's DM isnt too receptive to the race.

also, i changed how the nonlethal healing works, so make sure to re-read that section.

Cool, I will then. It might take a while, but I got this thread on my favorites list, so I'll remember to get back to you.
I'm planning on using them on a neutral merc group called boomhowlers, using studded leather armor, blunderbuss'es and battleaxes. Then, it's up to the PCs to fight them, befriend them, og leave 'em. It'll be interesting.

it might be worth making one of their second-in-commands a trollkin paragon, just to see how one plays out in combat. it would be a little tougher than a normal trollkin, but not as tough as one with class levels (the leader/captain/whatever).

just a thought.

Good idea. I'll let you know how it turns out.
