DarkflameX 05-26-07, 01:26 PM	i was thinking about adding a couple more important monster race characters into my campaign. i was just wondering if different races follow a different guide line for naming. ex. we all know how elf names and dwarven names sound, but what about for a gnoll?
Stardust 05-26-07, 02:24 PM	Fido and Rover are always good bets. Other than that, e-tools isn't forthcoming, despite having about 30 duergar entries and about 60 hobgoblin entries... If making serious gnoll characters, I'd probably be tempted to play around with dog breeds and mix them up with typical fantasy names, or other race names that may have seeped into the vocabulary. Labraan Reinzer Chief Doberiin Yackaal Probably with a few of those you could start to pick up a sense of a general 'sound' that fits the race. I'm pretty sure that's there's no standard, though. So you could probably just come up with any theme you wanted. Maybe there's some kind of general nomenclature used in published modules, but I never use that kind of thing, so I wouldn't know...
EvilVegan 05-26-07, 03:17 PM	Well they use the "common" alphabet, so that's a start. I also just noticed that there are only 7 alphabetic styles, which is wierd. I'd just go with "Steve" it is a good standby.

Just as Christians name their children after saints or the religion itself, Gnolls may take their names from their Gods, I’ve put “pup” in the names to show they’re children of the Gods. Yeenopup Erypup Gorelikpup Two of them could be named after the Gnoll writers that spawned the DnD variety. Dunsany Idris They are based on Hyenas…so how about African names? Dunamin 05-27-07, 08:31 AM	The demon prince Yeenoghu is patron of gnolls, so their names might have a bit of Abyssal in them.
