Undead PCs: how to conceal their nature [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-24-07, 07:10 PM I would like some "brainstorming" about the most effective or alternative ways to get your undead PCs to pass as livings.
I found one of the best solutions out there is a new PrC from Complete Scoundrel, the Mountebank with its "Alter Ego" ability.
One of my players would very much like to play something with some level of Totemist (Magic Of Incarnum) and I was wondering if some of the masks that can be bound to the Totem Chakra could conceal the undead features effectively.
Same question for every kind of mask and for the special masks of the Master of Masks PrC from Complete Scoundrel.
Another really effective thing could be a Dragonfire Adept with the Humanoid Shape invocation. Are Warlocks out of that or could they gain that invocation by the emans of Extra Invocation?
Well... Last but not least... Would the undead character be detectable by its probable stench??

02-24-07, 08:28 PM Another good trick: just one level of Binder is sufficient to bind Naberius and get at will Disguise Self. The question is always the same: is it sufficient to conceal your visual appearance?

02-24-07, 08:32 PM Undead don't always have a bad stench. Really, I think only those with rotting flesh would have a bad one. Ghouls, Mummies, Vampires, and Lichs all don't have rotting flesh, and there are so many more. Really, I think makeup and clothing would work best, or a simple alter self spell would work well.

02-24-07, 08:40 PM So a Disguise Self used to create a disguise, with the +10 bonus to the Disguise skill is optimal... Not bad. It seems that Naberius is really made for tricky undead PCs. A pity that one of the benefits is Con-based and I don't know if the Con-to-Cha rule would apply.
However, got the point: if they wash regularly, they'll smell like clean and LIVING guys! :D

02-24-07, 09:27 PM There is a spell ( I think its in the spell compendium) that makes living creatures take on the traits of undead for a while, you could simply create an alternate version that makes undeads living fro a while.
also even ghouls and zombies could potentionally mask their scent, use some really strong cab fresheners.
