Greater turning can kill a vampire (if the cleric or paladin successfully makes the checks), but the vampire will just turn to gas and fly back to its coffin as normal.

Disintegration can also kill a vampire. Although the effect requires a Fortitude save, it also works on objects (and thus undead according to the undead creature type's immunities). Again, the vampire just turns to gas and flies back to its coffin.

Speaking of vampires, any templates for Vampire Lords or some sort of ranking system like Lich's have?

I think some previous thread on a subject similar to this mentioned that greater turning destroys a vampire without giving him a chance to transform in a gaseous cloud at 0 hp.

I thought something similar might be true for disintegration.

Also, does flesh to stone work an a vampire ( I recall seeing a use of stone to flesh turning walls into flesh)

A vampire automatically assumes gaseous form and flees if reduced to 0 hit points. Some attacks (greater turning, sunbeam, sunburst, two rounds of exposure to sunlight, three rounds of immersion in running water, a critical hit from a vorpal sword, decapitation after being staked) can destroy a vampire outright, rather than reducing its hit points, in which case it's gone for good.

The Gaseous Form ability specifically says it works on Vampires who have been reduced to 0 HP or lower in combat. There are quite a few ways to destroy a Vampire without actually reducing it to 0 HP (this is the essence of what "save-or-die" means).

Disintegrate, however, is not a true save-or-die -- it merely does 2d6/CL worth of damage, i.e. merely reduces the creature's HP. So a Vampire hit by one and reduced to 0 HP still escapes through Gaseous Form.

I would rule this is *not* true, however, of a spell that simply says the creature is destroyed, like sunbeam or undeath to death.

Eech, my mistake. But it might as well be save-or-die.

...Except for Vampires. (To say nothing of Trolls.)

Doesnt disintegrate specify that you turn into dust when reduced to 0 hp? Then which effect applies first? gaseous form or dust turning?

O yes, Here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20021018a) it is. I like it, though I REALLY don't want ot meet that as a player :P

Here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=878775&highlight=vampire+lord) is also a thread regarding level adjustment.

Hope that was somewhat useful :)
