instag8or19 10-06-07, 09:40 PM	My Question is what is the primary weapon for this character? Does Unarmed Strike count as a primary natural weapon, or is it the claws from the half dragon? If so would unarmed get full strength to damage and claws get the 1/2 strength...or would unarmed strike count as regular weapon and claw/slam would be the primary natural and get full strength to damage? Also would he get both claw attacks in addition to flurry as a Full Attack Action?
rks 10-07-07, 05:58 PM	From the FAQ: "A natural weapon (any natural weapon) is neither an unarmed strike nor a special monk weapon, so you can’t use it along with a flurry." I do not know the answers to the other questions, but there will sure be some persons who can shoot down this über-tryout. :-)
war_thog 10-08-07, 10:07 AM	Your primary weapon would probably be your claws as you were born a half dragon and inherited vampirism. Adding vampire doesnt alter your nat weps if youve got em, just adds an extra one which is your primary if you have no other ones, but becomes secondary if you do. Unarmed strikes dont follow these rules. They follow the rules for "normal weapons" so dont have primary/secondary ness. If you use a "normal weapon" *eg unarmed* then all natural attacks become secondary for that round. Natural attacks cannot be used in the same round as a flurry. You flurry for 2-5 unarmed attacks based on level, or you get 1-3 unarmed attacks based on level + natural attacks. Your choice. Personally I wouldnt flurry. Or be a monk for that matter, if I was a vampire half dragon, with +11 Level adj Id want something sturdier as my classes. Monks are too fragile :(
Ovistavin 10-08-07, 11:49 AM	Here is what the FAQ says on Monks and natural weapons. Can a monk who has natural weapon attacks (such as a centaur monk) attack unarmed and still use his natural weapons? For example, let’s say he’s a 4th-level monk. Can he use a flurry of blows and attack at +5/+5/+0 unarmed (plus other bonuses) and then at +0/+0 for 2 hooves? If the creature normally is allowed to make both weapon attacks and natural weapon attacks as part of the same full attack routine, the monk can do the same (making unarmed strikes in place of weapon attacks). Since a centaur can make two hoof attacks in addition to his longsword attack, a centaur monk can make two hoof attacks in addition to his unarmed strike attack (or attacks, depending on his base attack bonus). The monk can’t use his natural weapon attacks as part of a flurry of blows, but he can make natural weapon attacks in addition to his flurry. Such attacks suffer the same –2 penalty as the monk’s flurry attacks in addition to the normal –5 penalty for secondary natural attacks. An 4th-level centaur monk has a base attack bonus of +7 (+4 from his 4 monstrous humanoid Hit Dice, and +3 from his 8 monk levels). If he performs a flurry of blows, he makes three unarmed strikes, at +5/+5/+0. He can add two hoof attacks at –2/–2 (–5 as secondary weapons, and –2 from the flurry).
war_thog 10-09-07, 09:38 AM	When did that get posted? I know just the other week that someone was throwing around FAQ posts that said you can't flurry and use Nat Weps. Big discussion on it too.
