Imagine a race alot like venom from Spiderman. This is my attempHalf-Venom
• +4str,+3dex,-2con,-5cha
• medium size
• appears as a human
• base land speed 40 ft
• +3 on all grapple checks if using extended arm (see below)
• +5 on jump checks if using extended arm (see below)
• +5 on climb checks if using extended arm (see below)
• Half venoms have a reach of 20 ft. if using extended arm (see below)
• Extended arm: A half-venom can chose to make his arms to become full venom granting him +5 on jump and climb checks and +3 on grapple checks.
• Full venom: A half venom can chose to release his inner demon granting him the following traits:
• +10str,+5dex,-10cha,-5con
• base land speed 70 ft
• +50 on all climb checks and he can climb at his base land speed
• +10 on all grapple checks
• +30 on all jump checks
• Rage: a half venom can enter a rage as if he is a 3rd lv. Barbarian at will without the normal penalties.
t at it.

You;d probably want to give him spider climb at will (the Warlock can have this). Not only would it be appropriate thematically, but you can't climb sheer surfaces no matter how high your climb is in DND 3.5, which would be a pisser for Venom for sure.

You'll never guess what odd numbers should never be used for racial ability modifiers!

...actually I guess that kind of gave it away.

-2 to Con? I thought was part of the appeal from Venom, he was tougher after that.

Odd numbers are a no-no.
• medium size
• appears as a human
Appears or is a human? Because Pablo the hairy wood elf looks like a hobgoblin.
• base land speed 40 ftWhat, no climb speed?
• +3 on all grapple checks if using extended arm (see below) How about powerful build instead? Haven't read/watched spiderman in a while, but both are really powerful, right?
• +5 on jump checks if using extended arm (see below)
• +5 on climb checks if using extended arm (see below)
Reduce both to +4, and probably have it at all times.
• Half venoms have a reach of 20 ft. if using extended arm (see below) No. Maybe 10 ft. That should be enough.
• Extended arm: A half-venom can chose to make his arms to become full venom granting him +5 on jump and climb checks and +3 on grapple checks.
• Full venom: A half venom can chose to release his inner demon granting him the following traits:
• +10str,+5dex,-10cha,-5con

t at it.Just... No. If he wants rage, he can go barbarian. Both of these are unlimited use? Way overpowered. They aren't even enhancement bonuses, so they stack.

I'd make it:

+4 to Str, +4 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, -6 Cha
Medium Size
40 ft. land, 20 ft. Climb
Release the Demon: Double Speed and increase Str, Dex, and Con by 4. Reduce Int by 2. Reduce Cha by 12.

Have you read the comics? This is not a good representation of the "Symbiote" Race.

What? It was an excellent comedy. Utterly ridiculous.

I was surprised they killed venom, after all in the comics he's been a thorn in spidies side for years, not half an hour.

That can be said about nearly any of the villians in super hero movies.

Yes Venom and Carnage are the same thing since Carnage is Venom's offspring. Symbiotes are parasitic creatures that enhance the abilities of the host and slow take over the host personality with that of its own. If the previous host had mutated dna/or certain knowledge (such as spider man) the Symbiote who integrate that into its own.

It not even a question of power so much as accuracy to the race. At least know how the races function first.

The Symbiote don't rage...they enhance all the physical attributes of the host.

Where is the weakness of the race? Aversion to fire and sonic damage...

Please read up on the race before going further on this.

...Why the intelligence and Charisma penalties. If anything give him a wisdom penalty, Venom always struck me as a little of a nutcase.

The symbiote should also be a template, not a race.

That said, I thought Spider-man 3 was quite good. It was by far the most entertaining of the movies, what with the action scenes and humor and etc. etc.

Maybe it wasn't as deep in plot and a bit more over the top with the drama at times when compared to Spider-man 2, but it was still a really good movie.

This is what I would suggest, make the symbiote an abberation, with ooze traits, whatever hit dice you want, when the symbiote finds a host it grants the host the following benefits:

+4 Str and Con, +2 Dex
-4 Wis
Blindsight 30 ft (spidy sense)
Spider Climb at will as an extraordinary ability.
Once a round whenever the host makes an attack action he gains an extra pseudopod attack, have this as a slam attack that deals 1d6 +str damage for medium creatures (goes up for larger).
As a standard action the host can make an attack with an additional 5 foot reach.
Vulnerability to fire: the symbiote and host take double damage from fire, further when encountering bodies of fire the host must make a will save Dc 15 or flee.
Vulnerability to Sonic: Whenever the host takes damage from sonic he must make a fortitude save dc 20 or be stunned for 1 round.
When the symbiote bonds to the host, the symbiote take half the damage the host would, similar to a shield other spell. If the host dies the symbiote will try to join with the nearest living creature, if the symbiote dies the host permanently loses 1d4 wisdom from separation anxiety.

NOOO! Spoiler of doom! :(

I really should have thought about that before I posted. Sorry, that was inconsiderate of me.

I predicted the end of the movie fifteen minutes in...the OP fails at creating a symbiote, especially when he calls Venom a race.

Not that venom had a name in the movie...thanks, Raimi, for ruining my favorite villain.

Also, giving Venom a Con penalty demonstrates the OP's ignorance.

I would think a better way to show the venom*/carnage**/toxin** symbiotes would be to make templates.
*I barely know half a crap about him.
**I don't know half a crap about these except they are future generations of venom

Symbiotes don't automatically have spider-sense.

The thing is they are a race, a parasitic race. It should have properties of intellegent items (ie have an ego and alignment, and tries to take control of the person while they drain them.) They also have limited shape shifting abilities able to disguise as clothing ala glamoring enchantment.

To the OP: Please do your research before doing more work on this race.

It's ben awhile since I've read marvel comics, I moved on to independents years ago, I thought venom inherited that ability, if I am wrong then I apologize.

There are allready symbiotes in D&D... It would not be hard to use their rules for making a Vemon symbiote. He would need a decently high ego score, though probably no way to communicate other then empathy by himself.

This thread is moot, marvel universe symbiotes are not a race, they would be symbiotes. Artifact level ones at that probably.

i think this could be a neat idea if done right...

If you can make a template like Lycanthropy but just have a base creature with subtle enhancements and a full form like venom in the movie, and have a penalty to fire and sonic damage, cant forget that, it would be a cool idea

Im gonna work on this and post my own up...

And BTW, did anyone else think Tobey Maguire looked like a Fall Out Boy wanna be in the movie??? He totally had an Emo kid look...

I've been a fan of running them as intelligent artifact class psychoactive skins. Seems to fit well.

I think you're talking about symbionts, while I've personally never even heard of 'venom', I'm sure he's pretty cool.

EDIT: It feels like there should be more on the end of that post doesn't it?
EDIT2: By the way, Symbionts are in Fiend Folio and various Eberron books, just thought I'd put that there too, they might be in other books.

Not as far as I know. Even then, it's easy enough to write off that requirement for intelligent artifacts.

shouldn't be any penalities to int or cha, as any deficiencies in those stats were eddy brock's, not venom's. Wis would be good, however, because the symbiote does screw with the brain's wiring and make the wearer a little nuts...

At first, this thread looked really stupid to me. Marvel villains in Dungeons and Dragons, WTF? (considering I'm not a super-hero-type-ish fan anyway) And then I thought, Venom, hmmm, Venom? Yes, that name sounds familiar. And then I remembered, the book. A little colouring book I got when I was a kid for christmas, Venom. And then it hit me, Venom was that frickin' sweet looking black guy! I loved that picture, I was so careful in coloring it, making sure not to go outside of the lines. So, in honour of that Venom, not no Spiderman III thingymabob, I present, the 'Venom'.

A couple of things first, I knew NOTHING about Venom before this thread, other than he looked like a black spiderman (and I seem to remember a long tongue...?) But I looked it up on Wikipedia, found out some stuff, and here's what I came up with. I was tempted to make a Symbiont, but it would be way to powerful, maybe a weaker version another day.

I based this Venom mainly on the vampire template, but I don't know if that worked to well, I'm open to any suggestions. I guess I should maybe post this on a different thread but...

Creating a 'Venom':

"Venom" is an acquired template that can be added to any coroporeal creature (maybe? yes, no?)
A 'Venom' uses all the base creature's statistics and special abilities except as noted here.

Size and Type:
The creatures type changes to _____ (not to familiar with them, abberation maybe???). Size is unchanged. Do not recalculate (blah, blah, blah)

Speed:
Increase all the base creature's speed types by 10 ft.

Armor Class:
The base creature's natural armor increases by +6.

Attack:
The base creature gains a natural attack (of one chosen type such as bite, gore, tentacle, etc.) that deals 1d6 damage for medium creatures (adjusted accordingly)

Special Attacks: (not sure what to post hear really, suggestions? psionics maybe?)

Special Qualities:
DR/10 (does he have any weaknesses, I was thinking cold iron if not, yes? no?)
Fast Healing 5
Spider Climb constant effect
+8 hide, listen, move silently, bluff, search, sense motive, spot (different skills maybe?)
Minor Shape Change (as changeling, but clothes too) (Maybe as doppleganger?)
Vulnerability to sonic and fire

Abilities:
Str +6, Con +4, Dex +4, Wis -2 (Wis penalty a maybe, not sure, suggestions?)

Feats:
Alertness, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improived Initiative, Lightning Reflexes

Challenge Rating:
Same as base creature +2

Alignment:
Always Evil

Level Adjustment:
+8

As you can see it's probably really far from perfect, but I hope you like it, it's my first real homebrew thing...

venom may not be this powerful but carnage is and he is esentially the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate the fact that Venom was "dumbed" down... He could have easily killed parker. And whats with the -'s to Cha? Venom has been a silver tongued devil for aslong as I remember... And Venom isnt a template, he should be a symbiote that attaches to almost anything. And yes hes an abberation
