| Mc_Bane04-01-07, 03:18 PM | So, I was looking at the Living construct template in Magic of Incarnum when I saw that they do not get bonus HP for having a large constitution. This is not in the warforged entry for living construct, but it states unambiguously that this is the template that they are using. My question is, why the conflict and which is right? |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-01-07, 03:54 PM | Do they mean "Constitution bonus" or "construction"? Warforged definitely apply their Constitution modifier to their Hit Dice and get no bonus for being Medium-sized. I think you're misreading this... |
| Mc_Bane04-01-07, 04:28 PM | I just re-checked and its definetely constitution, it also says "As other living creatures so", so I'm pretty sure its not a typo. In hindsight, its pretty clear that warforged do gain the HPs, as it doesnt say anyhting in ebberon. Never the less that means that there are at least two versions of the living construct template around. Confusion ensues. Its on P196 of Magic of incarnum BTW. |
| Shadowhowler04-01-07, 04:45 PM | I know the Green Star Adept PrC eventualy makes the character a 'living construct' and, at that time, the lose their constatution score and any bounes HP's that go with it. Seems that most constructs, if not all, save the Warforged, work this way. |
| El_Machinae04-01-07, 06:46 PM | I notice a pretty high correlation between not having a constitution score and getting bonus HP. |
| Captain_Kobold04-01-07, 10:51 PM | I notice a pretty high correlation between not having a constitution score and getting bonus HP. I think this pretty much nails it. It you have a constitution score, then you have a working metabolism, and the strength of said metabolism is what determines how hard it is to disrupt. (represented by bonus hp.) Without a constitution score, there is no metabolism, and the only way to "kill" the creature is to effectively take it apart. Thus bonus hp for size. I could understand constitution increasing for size as strength does, but I'm not sure that Living Constructs (as creatures with constitution scores) should get bonus hp from just size. If anyone has MMIII available, do Warforged chargers or scouts (as living constructs of Large and Small size) seem to get hp based on size, or on Constitution score? |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-02-07, 02:05 AM | Warforged use their Constitution score, and don't get anything for size. They actually bleed (mostly oil), their bodies have different specialized organs (wooden muscles and iron skeletons), they suffer from ability damage, and are healed by cure spells. Warforged Titans, being true constructs, do not get this. |
