Okay, so would it seem a little contrary to their function and natural impulses to be a barbarian? cause i have a player who wants to make a warforged barbarian, and i want them to make it... but i'm trying to wrap my head around it. is that a strange combination?

Not really, no, it's a perfectly reasonable character concept. I mean, it's just the same concept as a human who's a barbarian, I suppose. The Warforged is just a fierce and reckless warrior. Where's the problem?

oh no, its not a problem. it is simply how they are described, as being emotionless at times. but they are sentient; i suppose they can act in any way they wish.

How about this?

Change the flavor of rage to be a sort of battle increaser. So right before battle he charges up with energy to fight, but it only lasts for so long.

Flavor is nothing, only mechanics.

They're also described as having been created entirely for the purpose of killing things.

Hell, you could reason that there's a plethora of Warforged Barbarians for whom Rage is their only emotion, and the one they enjoy the most.

Remember, too that warforged are immune to fatigue and exhaustion! No hangover after raging! Yays! :evillaugh

Flavor is nothing, only mechanics. That's what I figure, too.

Any time I consider a warforged barbarian raging I get this mental "image" of the warforged uttering something like "Overdrive engaged" or "Rerouting power reserves to battle capabilities" in a flat monotone voice and then getting 'his' fight on relatively calmly, with increased relevant abilities at cost of utility functions. Then again I see warforged as a bit more robotic than they're presented.

OP: With few exceptions (paladin is one, barbarian is not) classes are just parts kits to assemble mechanics that match the concept you have in mind. The presented example flavour is one thing you can do with the class it goes with, but far from the only thing. Don't let the given tribal hunter example get in the way of what you and your player want to do with it.

In contrast I would see a raging barbarian warforged as being built with some kind of 'psuedo-adrenaline' system (Which also works should some player somewhere be daft enough to go down into frenzied berserker) whereby they literally do go into a rage.
As it is a warforged barbarian sounds perfectly designed for a disrupting shocktrooper role where they would have to go on ahead, in lighter gear, to engage into short destructive attacks, all of which is perfectly ulitised in the barbarian class, therefore personally, I can see a warforged being built for this specific role... (Also it serves as an exampe of how it doesn't need to be a tribal warrior to be a barbarian)

Go a Warforged Barbarian with Adamantine Body and take the animal/totem Barbarian varient from Complete Champion where by you lose your bonus movement speed (+10 feet normally attained at 1st lvl of Barbarian), which you can't use ANYWAY while (technically) in heavy armour, and gain POUNCE at first level.

Concept:

Relentless Stalker (think Terminator) -

"Go on. Run. Everyone always does. Run as hard and as long as you can. You'll never get away. I don't get tired, fleshy. I'll just ponder along until you collapse. Then i'll tear you to pieces."

Also, if your DM allows flaws, take one, and pick up Track at first level so you really can 'hunt them forever' :D

And if that can reassure you, there's been pictures of warforged barbarians in Eberron books already. There's a NPC in Sharn that's a CN warforged barbarian 5. One even made it as a miniature.

Since noone said it before: The first generations of modern warforged actually were barbarians - they didn't figure out how to make fighters for a while.

I played a Warforged Barbarian once, awesome character too. My DM actually liked the rage part, because it was interesting for a Warforged to show any emotion.

Warforged aren't necessarily emotionless, either. They have trouble relating to and expressing emotions, and they may not feel the same ones in the same way as a human, but emotions aren't completely foreign to them (even if many of them try to suppress such feelings as a distraction).

Warforged barbarians are broken bada$$es to be able to rage and never get fatigued. Start with an all around eighteen AC and fifteen flat footed. A nice +2 Con so you can get that high strength with out to much sacrafice. Then take Warforged Titan Prestige Class. Good Times.

For what little it's worth, Adamantine Body isn't always the best choice for a Barbarian, given that it negates the fast movement ability. But for the most part, WF Barbarian is pretty nice.

I like the idea of a warforged barbarin being RPed like a golem with a chance of going berserk, only since he's a living construct he has better control and it wears off.
So I guesss I'm on the "it's just how you flavor it" boat :)

Holy crap, thanks guys; all good feedback. I'll have to see which "option" my player likes, but the idea is that its all just flavor. mechanically, it sounds like this is going to be fun.

Just wait till he asks if a warforged pyrokineticist's Firewalk ability can be rocket boots. :D

oh jeez. I can only imagine all the things one can do, superficially, with a warforged character.

Only if you forget that they're golems and not robots.
