| Aethermix04-23-07, 09:48 PM | I'm looking for a cool template for a warforged ranger. I know what you're thinking... "cool" "warforged ranger." Humor me I'm looking more for flavor than functionality. I don't know what I'm looking for in a template really, just something to further the oddity of a robot that likes to hunt. Anything that could make him more of a ranger I suppose would be optimum. Low level to start, Favored Enemy is Construct, haven't picked any feats just yet but I'm planning to make him as much of a Ranger as possible. Also I'm looking into the Animal Companion option and thinking something like Owl or Wolf but it would be completely awesome if it could be a construct too... something whacky like an awakened object (a statue or maybe a clockwork thingy of some kind). |

| Captain_Kobold04-24-07, 05:01 AM | You could ask your DM if you could pick your animal companion from the Urban druid list. I believe that included animated objexts. Or simply ask if he could apply the living construct template to an animal for your companion. The difficulties in healing should offset many of the advantages. |

CREATING A FORGED CREATURE “Forged Creature” is an acquired template that can be added to any corporeal aberration, animal, dragon, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, or vermin. A forged creature has all the base creature’s statistics, special abilities, and special qualities except as noted here. Size and Type: The creature type changes to construct. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points. The base creature also gains the living construct subtype in addition to any other subtypes the base creature may have had. Size is unchanged. Hit Dice: Change all racial hit dice to d10s. Do not change hit dice gained from class levels. Armor Class: A forged creature loses any natural armor bonus the base creature may have had, instead gaining an armor bonus equal to either +2 or the base creature’s natural armor bonus, whichever is greater. This armor bonus is the same kind as a warforged’s composite plating, and has all the advantages and disadvantages outlined on pages 23 and 24 of the Eberron Campaign Setting. Attack: In addition to any natural attacks the base creature may have had, the forged creature gains a slam attack that deals damage based on size, as shown on the table below. Size Damage Size Damage Diminutive 1 Large 1d6 Tiny 1d2 Huge 1d8 Small 1d3 Colossal 1d10 Medium 1d4 Gargantuan 1d12 If the base creature can use weapons, the forged creature retains this ability. A base creature with natural weapons retains those natural weapons. Despite how high the base attack bonus of a forged creature may be, it can only use its slam attack once per round. If it has any other forms of attack, it may use its slam in conjunction with those attacks as a secondary attack with a -5 penalty. Special Qualities: A forged creature retains all the base creature’s special qualities, with the exception of those that rely on breathing, such as Scent, Hold Breath, etc. If the base creature has a breath weapon, the forged creature retains that special ability. A forged creature also gains the special qualities listed below. Living Construct Traits: A forged creature has all the traits of a living construct, as outlined on page 23 of the Eberron Campaign Setting. Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: +2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha. Skills: A forged creature with an Intelligence score of 5 or higher gains a +2 bonus to any Craft check to repair itself. Special: A forged creature is considered a warforged for the purposes determining prerequisites for class requirements, feats, or magic items. Organization: Solitary or as base creature Challenge Rating: Same as base creature +1 Treasure: Same as base creature Alignment: Same as base creature Advancement: Same as base creature Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +1 Hope it helps. |
| Disciple_of_Juiblex04-24-07, 10:05 AM | As one person who recently made an artifacer/ranger gestalt this is a few options. Your animal companion isint as good as a druid's. so i went with an animal that i could use, not in battle. i ended up with a camel becuse they can carry a warforged base while being a light load. in addition i argued (and won) to lower base weight for a mithril (light armor and allows for a good dex bonus) warforged from 270 to 200. i also got the dm to allow me to make it celestial (due to being a planar ranger, in unearthed arcana) and magebreed (template found in eberron) so its kind of beefy, though other dm's might not be as nice as mine :P (its a power (we save the world from the entire abyss type) campain anyways, without the enhancements it would die in one hit) Personaly i took constructs (duh) and plants (a ranger that is kind of anti-nature) as my favored enimies as starting. In addition if you really want a metal companain you might consider an artifacer. with the improved homuculus feat they stand up for themeslves somewhat in later levels. also warforged can get a wepon familar with a racial subsitutan level. (so my guy has his camel, a little flying construct, and an intelligent warhammer .... very, very, odd) |
| kyros_the_spawnslayer04-24-07, 06:53 PM | That forged template looks pretty cool. At one time I was working on a story of a Warforged wizard named Ark and he would undertake the taste of creating what I was calling the wildforged, essentially normal animals turned into living construct. Is that one someone on the board made or is it actually from an Eberron book? |
| Aethermix04-25-07, 12:39 AM | Wow you guys have given me a good idea. What about a Warforged who explores dangerous regions and hunts beasts so he can figure out their natural abilities and how they work. Then he would use that knowledge with Artifice to make attatchments that emulate something of that creatures natural attacks (like a wyvern's stinger tail), defenses (natural armor) or special abilites. Warforged are patient and don't sleep so their perfect for setting up ambushes, observing from afar, and studying something for a long period of time. ... I've got to start working on this ... |
