| Wrathamon02-20-07, 04:26 PM | What happens when the Warforged is hit with a slam or constrict? What happens when it uses its natural slam? How about a Warforged Juggernaut with Armor Spikes? How are components affected? What is concidered "clothing"? curious minds want to know :) |
| gullas02-20-07, 06:03 PM | What happens when the Warforged is hit with a slam or constrict? well I guess that it would break down:D What happens when it uses its natural slam? How about a Warforged Juggernaut with Armor Spikes? cast for sunder on the spikes:P |
| Rulebook02-20-07, 06:06 PM | i'd assume it takes damage for touching a black pudding, just like everything else. |
| Wrathamon02-20-07, 08:45 PM | warforged are made of metal and wood... it talks about doing damage to metal or wood. Would the warforged take this damage for example? Would it split when trying to grapple the warforged juggernaut cause of its spikes? |

Would they be destroyed if they fail the DC 21 reflex save (that would be mean imo) Would it split when trying to grapple the warforged juggernaut cause of its spikes? |

Would it split when trying to grapple the warforged juggernaut cause of its spikes? The warforged would, as per the Black Puddings description, take 21 points of damage per round. Yes, the pudding would split and each pudding would then deal 21 points of damage per round. However the spikes would need to save vs. DC 21 (standard pudding) or be dissolved immediately. Also, if the warforged were to actually grapple the pudding (using it's hands presumably) or were to carry out an unarmed strike, I believe it would need to make a Reflex DC 21 as well or have it's arms/hands be dissolved. |

| Vamroc03-08-07, 10:43 PM | This would depend on the warforges construction If it had Adamantine plating or magical enchantments. Then the black pudding would have a tough time trying to digest the warforge. A bonus is that warforge do not breath so it can survive with out air. Also a warforge would be able to determine what is most effective and have a wizard or cleric prep the proper scrolls before the fight. |

| Emeramber03-09-07, 04:23 PM | Doesn't the black pudding specifically do damage to metal/wood objects. Last I knew, living creatures weren't objects, even warforged. Try convincing your GM to allow object only spells to target them, for example. I think a warforged takes the same damage as anyone else would, unless specified otherwise. |
| Wrathamon03-09-07, 07:40 PM | Improved Grab (Ex) To use this ability, a black pudding must hit with its slam attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can constrict. Constrict (Ex) A black pudding deals automatic slam and acid damage with a successful grapple check. The opponent’s clothing and armor take a -4 penalty on Reflex saves against the acid. Acid (Ex) The creature secretes a digestive acid that dissolves organic material and metal quickly, but does not affect stone. Any melee hit or constrict attack deals acid damage, and the opponent’s armor and clothing dissolve and become useless immediately unless they succeed on DC 21 Reflex saves. A metal or wooden weapon that strikes a black pudding also dissolves immediately unless it succeeds on a DC 21 Reflex save. The save DCs are Constitution-based. The pudding’s acidic touch deals 21 points of damage per round to wooden or metal objects, but the ooze must remain in contact with the object for 1 full round to deal this damage. I posted the rules for others to look at. So a warforged is pretty much less at risk than a human in full plate? The Human in full plate has to risk loosing his weapon and armor. The warforged even thou he is all metal and wood doesnt (slam and armored body)? |
| Cromag03-12-07, 04:30 PM | per ECS a warforged against a rust monster has to save or take 2d6 damage. The destroying is basically the same (save or destroyed) Rust (Ex) A rust monster that makes a successful touch attack with its antennae causes the target metal to corrode, falling to pieces and becoming useless immediately. The touch can destroy up to a 10-foot cube of metal instantly. Magic armor and weapons, and other magic items made of metal, must succeed on a DC 17 Reflex save or be dissolved. The save DC is Constitution-based and includes a +4 racial bonus. A metal weapon that deals damage to a rust monster corrodes immediately. Wooden, stone, and other nonmetallic weapons are unaffected. So, I'd treat it the same way, save or 2d6 damage. and yes a warforged is better off then a human in full plate. Feats are often better then equipment; as the warforged is just as likely to enchant his body as another player is to enchant his armor. As far as spikes, I treat them the same a a monk they are manufactured/natural depending on which is better for them at the time. As such they wouldn't melt. After all the spikes aren't added, they're grown from the body. |
| Baloth King03-12-07, 04:46 PM | I didn't know black puddings could attack. Oh....oh, you mean the D&D monster, not the tasty Scottish meal that is usually had at breakfast? Well, I dunno. |
| ArcTan03-13-07, 12:46 AM | Warforged are supposed to be treated like any other PC race, with only the specific exceptions noted in their racial entry. Do otherwise and silliness ensues. (And guess what -- WF are made of a weird mix of fibers, alchemical bundles, and stone as well as metal and wood. The impression people have that they're solid hunks of steel is just plain wrong.) I'm in favor of the save-or-take-damage option, based on the rust monster's ability. Unless you think it's a good idea for a PC race to be instakilled in combat with rust monsters or black puddings. The warforged's plating is like a human's armor, right up to the point where a warforged can safely magically remove the plating and still survive (the Unarmored class ability of the Reforged PrC). Taking damage to his metallic plating is, for a warforged, like a human taking damage to his skin -- it counts as HP damage, not as permanent loss of equipment. (Note that an Adamantine WF can repair himself and regain his HP without actually needing adamantine to do so -- they somehow alchemically regenerate their component metals. This is why WF bodies can't be dismantled for scrap.) |
| Baloth King03-13-07, 01:39 PM | Nothing? Not even a giggle? |
| ArcTan03-13-07, 03:09 PM | Nothing? Not even a giggle? I think any moderately educated D&D geek has already heard this about twenty billion times. If you want to make a joke about black puddings you have to be subtle, like the Nethack Dev Team did when they made eating one non-vegetarian. |
| TheCarrionCrawler03-13-07, 07:14 PM | Nothing? Not even a giggle? Call 1 800 TBS FUNNY and ask them if that's funny... |
