Weight of a Gargoyle [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-26-07, 08:01 PM How much does a gargoyle typically weigh? (Both the creature "Gargoyle" and the item "Gargoyle Statue") Seeing as they have teh earth subtype, and they apear to be stone, it seems like they would weigh more than the typical weight for a medium creature, possibly well in excess of 500 pounds. What does everyone else think?

09-27-07, 03:57 AM I would just make a rough guess and say twice as much as a human of the same size.

09-27-07, 08:56 PM I have done some work with stone before, figure and eighty pound bag of cement, a gargoyle is about the size of 7 or so of these, plus the fact that stone's even denser, about 560 pounds (most likely more), would be a fair guess.

09-27-07, 09:47 PM But a gargoyle isn't really made of stone: it only appears to be. If it were really made of stone, it's have hardness, like an animated stone object, or at least DR/-. As it is, assuming you have a magic weapon, cutting through a gargoyle's body is no harder than the hide of a bison or heavy horse. If I had to take a guess, I'd say an average gargoyle has a weight somewhere between 300 and 400 lbs.
