well two different ones.
I played a goliath barb/fighter in one campaign. That was a lot of fun. My party had a very short half-elf, a halfling, a dwarf, and a halfling. My character turned everything into a challenge which the npc, the dwarf, turned into a way to control me. It was a lot of fun being so big and brainless. i had a 20 str and was using a goliath warhammer. I towered over everyone else in the party and killed the most but when it came to anything using skills i was useless. The campaign didn't progress very far because of a dm who didn't know the rules or how to say no (he was allowing things with LA of +4 as though they were normal base classes, and had them lvl up in their race at the same time as their class lvl).

Then i was in a savage species campaign that allowed any alignment because it was our party trying to stop a world catastrophe. I was a Yuan-ti abomination cleric (CN), we had a succubus rogue (CE), a mindflayer sorc (LE), a water mephit bard (CG), and a coutl paladin (LG). That was just ridiculous because of all the clashing alignments and backstories. It was a lot of fun though because of the different special abilities we had. Playing a monster changes what you can get away with.

The second third edtion (3.5 wasn't out yet, this was back in 2001) campaign we decieded to play a crazy powered campaign where we were champions of different races that were trying to win back an enslaved material plane to various different evil outsiders warring for control. The reason this happened, all the gods were locked away. Our characters were sent out to release the gods.

This campaign had two minotaurs that were brothers, Moo One and Moo Two became their nicknames. They had low charisma and wisdom and would charge anything in sight. They enjoyed picking up large objects and smashing them over opponents.

In the same group there was a orge named Wuzard. Wuzard thought he was a wizard because his named was Wuzard. So he would throw "magic missles" (rocks) and cast "knock" on doors (with his club). Every time we tried to convince Wuzard he would argue and it ended with the party laughing. The best was once we got a couple of levels Wuzard gained a couple levels of sorcerer. The reasoning behind it was that he truely and honestly thought he was casting and channeling the arcane powers that he started to do it for real! So when the party saw him cast a spell we all dropped our jaws. That was a fun campaign.

20th level game: CE Two-headed Feral Tainted One Half-Ogre Dragonborn Fighter 6/Thayan Gladiator 10

13th level game: Tibbit Rogue 13

those were the weirdest two, most of the others are just off-beat subraces of many of the "normal" races

That I actually played as? Then it has to be Scourge, my skeleton paladin with all 18s and a constitution score. His best buddies were Merlin, a wizard with all 18s, and Erik, a viking with all 18s.

That I want to play as? Unbodied. All the fun of a doppelganger and a ghost, without the undead/ethereal penalties, plus spellcasting. I can only hope to get my hands on some Antimagic Shackles...

Monsters are such fun.

I feel so common, only being able to present for your consideration my Thri-Kreen ranger, dual-wielding Gythkas (a racial double weapon), base land speed 60ft, with my +60 jump modifier. I played him like a half-cricket half-mantis on crack.

Tiroxis: Half-fire elemental juvenile bronze dragon rogue 3/arcane trickster 3.

Valora: Adult song dragon rogue 2/virtuoso 1.

Both of these dragons rocked big time! IMO, every d&d player should be given permission to play a dragon character at least once in their life. It is incredibly fun, and not as easy as it may sound.

The oddest I've done would have to be Vhorzaan, the skeleton wizard (Lawful Neutral). I think it took the party a good 3 levels before they realized that he was undead. Hooray for disguise self! :D

Darazun, a CN minotaur Psychic warrior 10.
picture this: a minatur with black fur and horns, wearing full plate mail made of dark blue and bright green crystal, carrying a greataxe who's head is made of a deep Purple-ish crystal (Deep Crystal :D ), whos horns have been etched with a strange paterns made up of lines, sharp angles, and small circles, with the etchings being inlaid with an emeral-green crystal.
Now imagen this Minotaur not only fighting with the prowess you might expect from one so armed and armored, but throwing busts of lighting at his enemys, spitting forth clouds of acid, and running allong walls when the ground is insuficent....

yeah, so I have a bit of a flair for the dramatic.... I'm done now. Anyway, he was a lot of fun to play, and had a pretty extensive backstory... I love making casters and/or psionists out of races most people don't use for anything other than hitting really hard... dunno why, 's just fun :)

Wierdedst that I have actually played?
Make your pick.

A Neutral Good vampire Druid.

One undefinable Outsider character that was theoretically undefeatable in battle but was too emotionally pure to allow anyone to come to harm. Yes, including the evil guys. Can't they be redeemed or something?

Wierdest that I have made but not actually played?
Make your pick.

A Medusa Paladin
(who love to bite her friends with her poisonous headsnakes and then petrify them with her gaze, simply because it's cute. Of course, she would never do this against the targets will, and she always restore them afterwards.)

A Neutal Good Mindflayer and it's companion - a humanoid with the "multiheaded" template from savage species. The mindflayer could eat one brain and then chop off that head. It would just grow back.

A Human wizard

A Human Wizard/fighter

The last two was wierder then they sound.

The first was high level, but onlt five years old. She was specialized in summoning and controlling demons.

Well, she have lived for more like 105 rather then just 5, but her pet demon have the supernatural ability of making someone younger (or older), and she is good at acting her physical age. She was in another setting then D&D, so she never had a alignment. But if I would give her one, it would be Lawful Good. She was the kind of demonologist who banished demons and used them against each other, corecing them a bit but never making pacts with them.

The other was neutral good, but lived in the stolen body of a defeated foe who now haunted her. Long story with lots of remorse and assorted emo drama.

I would have to submit Sin the Librarian.
Sin used to be human, until he was left as collateral to a half-dragon librarian in Greyhawk. The librarian asked Sin (a drunken idiot at the time) if he would like to be like him. Naturally, thinking dragons are cool, he said yes.
Mind you, he wasn't quite clear on certain things.. so once he started growing blue scales and a tale he started telling people his race was now "librarian". Also according to the DM he lost his normal reproductive abilities and gained the ability to self fertilize and lay kobold eggs.. so his gender became "librarian" as well.

Second would be a Warforged Dragonfire Adept. Since DfA gives Dragontouched feat at first level, which in turn makes me dragonblooded.. I've declared that he is obviously a gnomish experiment in working draconic flesh into the fleshy bits of a warforged chassis.

Well lets see.
I've played a NG Minotaur Cleric 6
CN Half Celestial/Halfling Sorcerer 4/ Rogue 3
CG Halfling Rogue 8/ Shadowdancer 3 that used a +1 vorpal large longsword. It was a fullblade for him. He got it off a dead Balor.

Four other wierd chars I have played:

One Evil woodelf. The wierdest thing about him is that he liver in a world that did NOT have any alignment system, but where all woodelves was pretty much goody twoshoes guys. One interdimensional travel too many and one alignment changing curse trap, and there he was. Not only the only evil elf, but also the only elf who even had a alignment at all.

Three psionic mutated animals who was all telephatic healers. From a gamemechanic perspective, they was all pretty much the same char at first. And they all lived in a world where psionics was hated. But they had very different personalities.

The first was a immature teen with hubris, who loved to abuse his telepathic powers by spying on everyone's private thoughts just for giggles. And he dismissed all hatred against psionic people as mere jealousy. The "real" reason, according to him, was that normal people know that they arn't as cool as psionics.

The second was depressed and selfdestructive, hating herself for beeing abnormal. First she attempted suicide, then she started yelling at one of the other char because he had murdered and butchered a unarmed captive, and then I was kicked from that group for ruining the good mood.

The third was a royal princess hero ranger who was very noble and righteous. And of course, she wasn't a psionic - she was a predatorsoul shaman. Psionics are evil, and as a shaman it's her duty to protect people from them. This wasn't just her own opinion about herself, it was backed up by pretty much everyone in the ruling class of her people. Then again, she was a mutated squirrel. Her own people was pretty much the only ones who would EVER take her seriously. And no, the social distinction between "psionic" and "shaman" isn't more accepted among the general population of that world then the distinction between "pedophile" and "childlover" is in ours. People with psionic powers are hated, period. Doesn't matter what they call themeslves.

Thraxus a Half-Dragon/Orc Fighter9/Barbarian1.

This was back in 3e, so he had Rhino Hide Armor...

And Wings of Flying, a Ring of Blinking and a Cloak of Displacement. Oh and a +2 Flaming Burst Spiked Chain.

He had a Feat, I forget the name of it, but it let you get double strength Mod on a charge with a 2 hand weapon, instead of str and a half. In 3e Rhino Hide Armor just did straight up double damage...

He had a 30 strength...

Granted he had a 20% miss chance (I think) but had something else that negated it. (From the Blinking)

People who lived through the charge and attacked him back...

Got to roll 50% miss chance for the displacement...
then 50% miss chance for the Blink...
(I think they fixed that hole in 3.5 but I haven't looked)

Seriously, the wierdest creature I've ever played?

A mentally aware, emancipated, Shoggoth.

I ran around in a variety of forms; being a 7 foot tall tiger-dude was a bunch of fun.

Creating an army of undead to take over the city was fun, only one other player was in on it, since she got her army of servants and I got a method to create tons of loyal soldiers cheaply.

Wasn't D&D though.

I tried to remake the character in D&D and tried a Phasm, but it didn't work; a persistantly shape-changed Archivist dd though.

I really didn't want to have to do that, but that's what it took.

Well, lots of Minotaurs! It begins to not be so... weird!

I played two weird races.
First one was an half-black dragon centaur, an ECL 9 dude in a 10th level game, so I took the last level in fighter for the bonus feat. Despite the huge LA, he has decent HP, thanks to his 22 CON, and pretty strong with a 30 STR. He was built with Ride-by Attack and Spirited Charge. Unfortunately, it was a PbP game, and the DM left after 2 weeks...

The second one was a warforged paladin of slaughter/bard, despite the minus in CHA. He was wearing a black redingote and a tricorn hat, to protect from the rain. This was also a short campaign, oddly for the same reason than the half-dragon centaur...

I otherwise really enjoy PbP games!

I played a Young Red Dragon Ranger once. First adventure we stormed a bandit stronghold. I bullrushed the sentry on the tower into the cliff wall behind him. Soon after, we opened the top door to the tower and the wizard cast delayed blast fireball down inside. The bandits grabbed the bead and threw it back up. So I grabbed it in my mouth and used my breath weapon...DM declared the bead detonated with my breath and made it a 17d6+6d10 blast...blew the top of the tower off:D

Not long after, we got attacked by a kobold sorcerer. He put up a prismatic wall, but not before the party rogue got to him. However, the rogue got cursed and blinded, so he was screwed. I used a magic item to get around the wall and sneak up on the kobold and grapple him...then through him into his own prismatic wall...I win:D

That was one of my favorite characters ever

i mostly play elves, humans and halflings, so the wierdest is either my Illumian (wizard) or Tiefling (serpenty-evil looking rogue).

My DM wouldn't let me play the thri-kreen I had named the Lone Locust of the Apocalypse in my journal.

I've only played fairly normal races, however I helped persuade and build a fellow player a Ibixian fighter. Fates alive, he's good for two things, but he does those things so very well; get into trouble and smash.

02-21-07, 05:13 PM
Well, I played an Insectile Xeph Soulknife in a short Planescape oneshot. Didnīt get to use many of my abilities, more than climbing around on the sentinent buildings.

Then we had my Half-Red Dragon Human Ranger/Fighter/Blackguard of Tiamat. Hiding his true nature ws an issue, so he walked around covered in bandages, sometimes claiming that he was a leper and other times a burn victim. And so, Draxx the Half-Dragon Burn Victim Leper was born.

Now, Iīve DMed a monster campaign that contained, among other things: a Warforged Fighter/Soul Eater, an Efreeti, a Troll, an Annis and a bunch of "norms" (Core Race characters).

I actually forgot two of the weirder races I have played.

A Yakman fighter and a Drider cleric.

Yakmen are awesome if you get a chance to play one. Essentially it is a Minotaur without the penalties and more special abilities (like summoning a Janni).

The Drider cleric was loads of fun. To play him as a PC I said that when he became a Drider the forces of Chaos intervened and turned him into their champion and so he had Chaos and Destruction as his domains and was Chaotic Neutral. He was devoted to Disorder and Chaos as an ethos rather than a specific deity. He had a custom set of full plate armor which I always imagined as looking super cool. I mean, come on... a Drider in full-plate, that just looks sweet.

I once played a Goliath with the Monster of Legend template from the back of the DMG2 (It was a Gladiator-style campaign).

Mottled red-and-black Goliath that's supposed to herald the ending of the Goliath race? Yeah, my people threw me out. Ironically, because of that, my character became a genocidal maniac intent on wiping his people out. I'd buy gladiators' contracts, then tell them that if they marched with me in my army to wipe out my people, they'd be freed after.

Shame the campaign ended before my army got big enough.

Haven't done anything in 3.0, but back in the waning days of 2.0 my two favorite characters were;

Tklrti Chktla, 9th Xixchil Fighter (Myrmidon Kit, 'cause really, how could a fighting bug *not* have the myrmidon kit, it's just too funny!). He'd added armor to himself (he had to pay extra for the Body Modification proficiency, as it was a Wizard proficiency) and an extra pair of Glaive limbs, which he later used a Wish to enchant (he stripped the enchantments from magical swords and axes he'd been collecting and infusing them into his glaive-limbs, with the power of the Wish). He had some ridiculous amount of attacks / round, and would generally do about 75 pts of damage in a round.

I forget the name, but the other was a Spelljammer character. He was a Gnomish Were Giant Space Hamster (the burrowing speed was great for getting out of that cavern when the Mind Flayers captured us!). His class was Wizard, but he had some homebrew kit that required him to construct his spells in advance as complicated clockwork mechanisms, and then discharge them during combat. The one I remember best was the metal gauntlet he used to cast Shocking Grasp, which he had to recharge every night on a contraption like an exercise bike. After an hour of furious peddling, he'd built up enough of a charge for one use of Shocking Grasp... He ended up with a few more spells / day for his level, but he had to spend a lot more time 'preparing' spells (and required access to a workshop to 'swap out' spells), and the material components were a lot bulkier.

Other than that, it was Aquatic Elf all the way. I loved playing Aquatic Elves or 1/2 Aquatic Elves, no matter the setting. Greyhawk, Realms, Al-Qadim, Ravenloft, didn't matter. Dark Sun was the only place where I couldn't get away with an Aquatic Elf!

Since 3.0, it's been all-Human all-the-time. I haven't found an LA+0 race yet with something that I like more than that bonus feat...

I play so many weird characters: a thri-kreen psionicist (in 2nd edition) a bionoid elf (in 2nd edition) also a half-golem human fighter, an awakened bear and a beholder mage.

The weirdest is for me the bionoid.

First, the only thing weird about a rogue i played was that it was a hyperactive, clausterphobic, halfling. She was meant to just go crazy and bounce around like a pinball. If she could jump from one wall to another her clausterphobia would kick in and she would go crazy jumping until exausted or out of the small space. And just for fun she had an immovable rod in her sleeve just in case.

The second is not complete yet but will be the weirdest thing i have even ever heard of. A half elf, half dragon, half fiend, vampiric, lycanthrope. His name is legion for he is many. For each side/template their is a unique distinguishable personality and voice. When bored his multiple personalities and voices will start talking to eachother out loud. Though when normally all of his personalities are shown at once and when he speaks he speaks with all the voices in unison.

Most likely my half-fey elf swashbuckler (I forget his name).

He was half-naiad, so my DM replaced the flying with water breathing and a swim speed. I always imagined him as a sort of Luna Lovegood character: he has very large, round eyes, and stares at whatever he finds interesting at the moment. He can be incredibly calm in the middle of combat, but the moment he takes a single point of fire damage, he screams (very high pitched) for several rounds thereafter. He also refused to attack anything with the [water] subtype (he had a sense for it), because "it's so nice." No matter that its tearing your friends in half with its watery tentacles...

The weirdest I've played was an anthro cheeta, which I stopped playing after a session because I couldn't find a suitable personality for him.

However, the weirdest long-term character was in a gestalt game. Human Cleric 18/Lich 2//Wizard 5/Geomancer 10/Lich 2.

She transformed herself into a catgirl via the Geomancer drifts, and then became undead ... so she ended up being an undead catgirl.

I actually think I've allowed stranger characters in my game than I've actually been allowed to use in other people's games... Though lets see if I can recall any of the weirder ones, or at least the weirder and more entertaining ones...

One of the first characters that I really enjoyed was a Half-fiend fighter with six repeating crossbows and quick draw while still carrying a bastard sword for show. He was something akin to a violent desperado who was also a Doom Lord. I was essentially planning to get a bunch of different bane enhancements and other enhancements for each crossbow to always have something prepared, but it sort of fell through. :P

Another character was a Shadow Creature Gray Elf Ninja with a bunch of fiendish grafts and a mask of the skull. His forte was to escape from almost any situation that presented itself, though he would probably have been better off if I'd chosen Rogue levels instead.

Once I've also played a Gravetouched Ghoul Ranger who fought with a bow with a hat of disguise... Haha, the PCs took a lot of levels to realize that I was undead. It was strange, because none of them actually seemed to bring up how much more powerful I seemed to be in melee than in ranged combat... Right before he retired, he lost an arm and had a mummy's arm grafted on since I never actually thought to just swipe one from another ghoul.

Well, I DM for a bunch of eccentric players, so between that and playing most of the monsters I tend to go for bland races on the rare occasions when I get a chance to play.

That said, I have one particular favorite from 3e: a Half Red Dragon/Half Silver Dragon/Half Fire Elemental/Half Cold Elemental (homebrewed 1/2 Water Elemental variant) Thri-Kreen (with very generous LA buyoff, thank the gods). You've seen all the cartoons with the shoulder angel/shoulder devil thing? Yeah...red dragons are CE, silver dragons are LG, he was true neutral--he's already got his good and evil sides active 24/7 without their help. He painted himself in really really bright red and silver, as he thought his scales weren't bright enough, and would constantly argue with himself. I played him so each dragon side of him controlled 2 arms, so for example if we captured some of the bad guys the evil side arms would try to coup de grace them while the good side arms would hold them back until he could discuss things with himselves. Good times.

The weirdest I've played as, was a Half-Fiend Drow Wizard//Rogue in a Gestalt game, who had an Intelligence of 30. If you put max ranks in all Knowledge skills then, that makes one frustrated DM, because you know most there is to know! Too bad he was a true glass cannon though. He had the lowest AC of the party (which was 16, this was before finding Bracers of Armour and Rings of Protection), compared to our Half-Gold Dragon Woodling Human's base AC that was over 20. In his +1 full plate, he could not even be hit by our Half-Celestial Elf Ranger//Druid, who had a Dex near as high as my character's Int!

The only thing that bugged me about him was that he died at level 6 and then got reincarnated by the others who were at level 7 by then, and he got back as a Lolth-touched Human. Sure, his Str and Con went up, but his Dex dropped way down low and he lost his special abilities.

04-28-08, 05:00 AM
I never played it since it was just an exercise in applying templates but I started with a female human rogue and added the winged, reptilian, multi-headed, and insectile templates...
She basically looked like a two-head yuan-ti with six arms, a tail, and insect wings. She ended up with something like +2 Str, +4 Con, +8 Dex, and +6 Wis...

It would have been awesome to play except for the +8 level adjustment...:weep:

Back in 2nd Edition, I did a nature-themed monster party consisting of a pixie thief, a centaur ranger, a nymph cleric, a treant wizard, and a lizardman fighter whose actual name was just about unpronounceable, and was loosely phonetically bastardized into common as Swampgas...

I played a Thri-kreen as one of my four Dark Sun characters back in 2e. I also had a half-giant (about twice as tall and much stronger than its 3.5e version).

Other than that almost all of my characters are pretty normal. My most unusual ones that actually saw play were an irda, an aasimar, and a feytouched.

hmm. Well, I once played as a Paragon Petal Monk 10 (named Sunshine the Amazing) in a one shot epic arena campaign. I flew close to Mach 7. Lol. DM also told us we had infinite gold, and could buy anything we could find a cost written down for. (ie, couldnt make stuff using cost formulas). He put us up against Moradin. Couldn't kill him.

Me: How much gold do we have again?

DM:Infinite, why?

Me: I drop all of it on Moradin.

DM laughed so hard root beer shot out his nose onto his DMG. Still hasnt forgiven me. Sorry, Kinda off topic.
I also played a "Fallen Half-Celestial". Long story, but the DM was new and a total a**. I convinced him to let me play a half-celestial, with the half-fiend SLA list, evil, and no wings with an LA of +3. As you might imagine, that was a decision he regretted.

I nearly forgot. Right now, I am playing an Awakened Panther (statted as leopard with a few minor mods) Rogue/Fighter/Assassin.

human fighter....yeah I know not exotic, but I was playing with a dm that would not let you reroll stats and this guys had nearly all 8s. So I named him pigeon and he would run into any fight, or even something that looked like a fight (merchant and customers arguing over prices) so I could kill him off and start a new toon.....he lasted until 8th level lucky bast***!

in gamaworld I played a mutant bear, that later mutated again to have frog legs and he mutated later once more and obtained gills....to bad we were traveling in a desert at the time.

Doppelganger/halfdragon(silver)/half celestial rogue... long story short DM was a noob and treated him as a regular character race. level adjustment was I believe 10. in the campaign there was also a half gold dragon/ hound archon paladin with a juevenile bronze dragon mount... we also had a very "excited" Nymph who was always with out clothes (the player was a pervert if you didn't notice)

20th level game: CE Two-headed Feral Tainted One Half-Ogre Dragonborn Fighter 6/Thayan Gladiator 10

How can you be CE when Bahamut would strip you of your Dragonborn-ness as soon as you turn evil?

My party made me feel out of place as the only human out of seven party members.

Said party consisted off...
A dwarf
A Four-armed crazy-fast thing
Two homebrew Wolfmen
A homebrew catfolk
A half-dragon elf
And a Dragonborn, who's original race the party never got to know because he stopped showing up after the first session.

To make things even more odd, the party hangs out in the lower-income portion of the city (read: the ghetto) so they are harder to find... and I'm prettymuch the only full-human who lives there. :P

Is a NG Half-orc cleric of Ehlonna weird? I played a baby dragon in a Rifts game for 2 sessions. How about a winged hamster in gamma world who can pilot a jet bike:D ? Or a female human wizard with a fog puppy. Fog dogs eat magic items so just cast Nystul's magic aura on whatever you want to feed him and keep your magic items locked up away from your pet.:P

I've played and DM'ed a number of unusual campaigns.

My current campaign (which I am DMing), has the following for PCs:
Adamantine Dragon
Chaos Dragon
Styx Dragon
Fang Dragon
Shadow Dragon
Two-headed Hex dragon

Savage progressions made by me ... it's a pretty interesting campaign, since they have a lot of powers and immunities a normal party wouldn't have.

My first campaign, ever, had the following:
Thri'kreen turned Insectile Halfling (Rogue)
Human (Wilder)
Human-turned-Elf (Wizard)
Winged Elf (Archer-type)
Elf (Cleric)

In an evil campaign that was ran by a fantastic DM, we had:
Bullywug (me, I had 145hp at level 8!)
Shifter
Half-Vampire
Kobold
Anthro werebat

In an Eberron game, we had the following:
Werebear (me)
Maug
Mindflayer
Some kind of Celestial

Iron Siege, a Soulbound (homebrew template) Iron Golem Fighter. Human soul bound into the body of an iron golem. He hit incredibly hard. Was fun to RP too, as he was unbelievably ancient and had forgotten his original name.

My'nixarc, Illithid Telepath, LN. He only cared about research. Eventually went alhoon so he didn't have to be distracted by having to eat brains.

Weirdest thing I've ever played would be my catfolk rogue with a bag of holding...I named him felix lol.

I love all those people who actually understand the reference.

My current campaign is pretty strange.

We have a human (who as I understand, will be heading for outsider as they awaken their janni blood), two custom furry races (Variant Nezumi and a new squirrel race homebrewed), a custom illithid (good mind you), and a unique living construct which is basically a warforged with a child's mind and a wizard's arsenal and talent.

Even the campaign has it's share of oddities... the first major BBEG being a lich... warped by the Far Realm into something that combines the best bits of beholders, uvuudam, illithids, and other bizarre monsters.

Oh, and I played a werewolf assassin who I made go progressively insane that threw dirt claudes at people, the party even made a song for him

Nobody likes smelly old Lucien lol

Muffin the retarded orc barbarian, he forgot his name so the party he started with got to name him, ever since, my friends like to have him drift in and out of campaigns and I play him from time to time. His quork is that he will do just about anything for cookies, he loves freedom from clothing, but he's willing to wear a loin cloth, and he will instantly chase a bunny if he so happens to spot one, and everytime he did, he would bring luck to his party like one time when he ran right into a bush chasing a bunny and ambushed an ambush party:)

A gargoyle I can't remember much about, it was a horrible campaign, but the rest of the party was comprised of a succubus, an iron golem, me and a doppleganger...it was so bad

Elker Ironwhiskey, dwarven cleric, I didn't really know ow to use a good cleric, I still don't...he was murdered by a goblin rogue, then in a later campaign I brought in a carbon copy of him and called it Elker Ironlung and in special notes I wrote, "don't worry, he has many extension cords"...Ironlung lasted five minutes:P it was funny
I'm sure there are many more, I just can't remember them all that well

In an effectively LA-free campaign, I once played a shade shadowalker half-fiend wight drow monk (he was fond of the darkness).

RP-wise, I've played a CE fey-touched dread necromancer who referred to his party as things or "it," and insisted that any new party member had to run his/her hands along the blade of his axe before he would travel with him/her. Amusingly enough, nearly everyone (even a paladin) was willing to do this.

I once played a wyrmling blue dragon whose destiny was to adventure across the desert.

I played a bearhound (MMIII) once. He died 3 minutes into the game because the DM decided that he didn't want me to play in his game. Half of the players quit after that.

I had a player once that played an awakened babboon. The baboon had a high Int and Cha so he wore a fancy suit and talked with a sophisticated accent.

Here's an outside assessment of one of my games:

A necromonger with a ghost cohort; a anthropomorphized fox ***** with "fantastic cosmic power (itty bitty living space)" artificer; and a Druid with a penchant for turning into natives of the air. All traipsing about with Michael Flatly gone lupine. Sounds like an odd bunch.

Translation: Human Crusader (played as a Knight) with a ghost squire, female Kitsune Artificer (hi there), extraplanar Druid, and a Werewolf Lord.

I've seen some weird ones, but only played a few. Some of them are:

1/2 shadow dragon gnoll barbarian
Raptoran Warmage/elemental savant
pixie warmage
thrikreen barbarian/warblade
goliath fighter
poisondusk lizardfolk rogue
centaur barbarian

thats all I can think of right now.

I'm playing the raptoran right now, he is a flying lightning bolt. The gnoll was just called "ugly". The centaur had better stats than the goliath (part. in str) in the same game, but the goliath had a higher to hit and higher amount of damage with the same weapons. The goliath bit the dust from exploding gourds thrown by undead trolls and the centaur died from being shot in the back by a warlock when the centaur was being suicidal after almost dying to an arrowhawk he fell on.

I played alot of odd races in second edition.

Whenever a setting gave the option I chose it (though I regret to this day that I never played a rogue modron or a thri-kreen).

I played half giants, lizard men, orcs, and even a weird humanoid wasp thing with wrist spikes a DM made up one. Sadly a few of these were in one shot games that never lasted long.

Weird races are second to humans in my favorite list (I played humans before it was cool, then again I likely the only one to prefer playing half orcs and gnomes to elves and dwarves)

Those last two; would they be inspired by the Dresden Files books? IE the Archive and Luccio?
