Slight build gives a +4 bonus to hide and better squeezing, but... does it give +1 to AC and +1 to attack? I mean with Powerful Build, you don't want to take the -1 AC and -1 to attack, so there it is a none issue. However, I am puzzling about this, for I it makes a big difference. If sleight build doesn't give the +1 to AC and attack. It hardly adds anything. I give in it is a good bonus, but I mean for balancing issues with other stuff. If it does give the +1 bonus, you can better be medium sized with sleight build than small. Or is that slight build gives you the smaller armor, so less to carry (1/2 the weight of medium armors), but the nice weight capacities of the medium sized creatures than. For that would be nice! |

Therein we find Slight Build: Slight Build: The physical stature of kobolds lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category smaller. Whenever a kobold is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as Hide), the kobold is treated as one size smaller if doing so is advantageous to the character. A kobold is also considered to be one size smaller when "squeezing" through a restrictive space. A kobold can use weapons designed for a creature one size smaller without penalty. However, the space and reach of a kobold remain those of a creature of their actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject's size category. The +1 to AC and +1 to hit for being Small are not "opposed checks", so the Kobold does not receive those benefits. Slight Build (along with the other benefits mentioned in that article) is essentially a small power boost to bring the Kobold up to being balanced with the other core races. |

However it states: Originally Posted by Wizards.com Slight Build: The physical stature of kobolds lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category smaller. Indeed the opposed stuff is in there, but that is for stuff like Hide, grapple, overrun etc. (not that you take the -4 penalty as it is not advantageous). So what is the other part? |

You're reading the sentence this way: Whenever a kobold is subject to a size modifier [or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as Hide)], the kobold is treated as one size smaller if doing so is advantageous to the character. Whereas, as far as i can tell, the correct reading of the sentence is thus: Whenever a kobold is subject to [a size modifier or special size modifier] for an opposed check (such as Hide), the kobold is treated as one size smaller if doing so is advantageous to the character. In the latter case, tt doesn't matter if a "size modifier for an opposed check" exists or not. If it doesn't, chalk it up to the author covering his bases. |
| Naderion10-22-07, 04:15 PM | Small Build could lower the LA of a creature, but that's only interesting for creatures which already have a pretty high LA like +4 or more, or which are large and lose their reach in combat. |
| AtsuiShoto10-22-07, 05:58 PM | Huh? It looks like slight build does NOTHING to adjust your power level downward, even if it's not a big power boost, either. Why would LA drop? |
| Jaxgaret10-22-07, 06:48 PM | Right. Slight build provides only benefit to a character; there are no drawbacks to having Slight Build as a racial trait as opposed to not having it. |

May I ask than if you know examples (preferably showing the difference between the two) for 'size modifier' and 'special size modifier' Right. Slight build provides only benefit to a character; there are no drawbacks to having Slight Build as a racial trait as opposed to not having it. Agreed, indeed. It helps, it does not lower anything. Reach is not affected. |
