Hey,

I'm creating an adventure for my friends and I have two "BBEG" along the way;

a troglodyte with one level fighter &
a grimlock with one level barbarian

I actually rolled the stats for them ie. "made them characters", so I can tweak them a bit more. But now I am rather confused about their CRs. The MM says that both start with 2d8 racial HD.

So in my troglodyte case, it would receive

2d8+1d10+15 (con mod is +5) hp making it a CR 3 creature? Right? Or? Is this the same with the grimlock as well? (2d8+1d12+con mods?)

:confused:

If you look at the back of MM there're two paragraphs under Advancing a Monster that deals with that. In short, if the class lvl you ad fit with concept of the race (warrior class for warrior races) the CR goes up with 1 for each lvl you ad. If you ad a class lvl that does not fit with the race concept (sorcerer on a hill giant) the cr goes up 1/2 for every class lvl.

HP is calculated like any other character. Racial HD + Class HD + (total number of HD multiplied with con mod).
Which means that the Troglodyte would have 2d8+1d10+15 HP.
