Hey I don't know if there are rules out there for them, but I was wanting to know if there are any.

I have a set up winged(feather) elfs in the campaign I am running. I just wanted to know if one of the books out there has one already made up for 3.5.

Thanks

They are in Races of Faerun page 31.

You could also add the winged template from the Savage Species to a elf.

Raptorans are a pretty close match. Nothing specifically elf-like about them as written, aside from a vague similarity in pictures, but some people think they were intended as a LA +0 version of the Avariel.

Now the Avariel, IIRC, are a forgotten realms winged elf subrace with +2 LA. I don't have the books, but they are the best-known and established.

On the other hand, you could throw the Winged template from Savage Species, which alters LA by +2, onto a regular PHB elf. I think one person did a comparisoin between the winged elf and the avariel, and found the avariel lacking in power.

After looking at the winged template and the Averial Elf in FR, I like the out come to Averial more but I don't like the +3 LA they have in there, oddly enough I had the Races of Fearun book in my study. I see the higher bonus they get but maybe to much for what I want. Was thinking of leaving the +2 dex, of normal elf with no other bonus and it says that the Averial elf has frail bones would that mean they are subject to say 1.5x damage from say blunt weapons.

Would that make it where they aren't over powered as no LA...?

Or because they have wings would it force them to still be at the +1 or 2 LA

Averial Elves have all the same racial traits as elves in the Players Handbook 3.5 Edition except as the following:
• Flight up to Two times of their base land speed, at maneuverability Good. They may also choose from any feat that requires flying out of the Monster Manuel 3.5 Edition.
• Due to their frail hollow bones, an Averial Elf may not carry more then a medium weight and can only ware light armor while flying. Each Averial Elf begins play with any of these weapons: short sword, long sword, rapier, or quarter staff. These weapons are also master worked Mithral weapons making them one size category lighter and frail.
• Because of an Averial Elf’s hollow bones they are subject to more damage from tuff blows. Whenever struck with a bludgeoning weapon it deals double damage.

I would just stat an elf with the winged template from Savage Species. I think it would be a bit stronger, but the current avariel is so far from a powerhouse it is not even funny.

I would say wings, and thus flyspeed is a boon at lower levels but it fades as the party reaches higher levels (items and spells).

I would say that wings should have a +2 LA at lower levels, but decrease to +1 at higher levels (10+).

The Avariel Elf is almost EXACTLY the same as a Sun Elf* with the Winged template (including racial stat adjustments, even), except that the Avariel Elf has +2 Jump and Spot** and an additional +1 LA, which is completely not worth it. Trust me, just take a Sun Elf and add the Winged Template.

* I'm pretty sure that's the right Elf subtype. There are just so many...
** Or some other worthless +2 skill bonuses. Either way, not worth it.

Their +3 LA is waaaaaay not worth it. The Half-Fey from the Fiend Folio are way better for +2, if you're willing to have butterfly-winged elves rather than feathered.

Obviously you do. Unless it was along the lines of "OMG MUNCHKIN". I know it's a 3.0 source, but to my knowledge it was never reprinted nor errataed.

If you have access to 2nd ed books in the elf handbook there is a stated out averial. I played one once and all i remember was fire burned their wings could not go underground or they went crazy and they have like long vision instead of lowlight.

Was this an Aerie clone or something? Afaik practically all avarel have wings, and it's a big part of their community, religion etc.

I'd drop the avariel LA to +2. They're simply not worth the +3 LA assigned to them in the RoF.

When you compare them to aasimar and tieflings (not genasi, though), the avariel only have the flight over them (and the abovementioned two races can get that at the cost of two feats (at 6th level), at no LA). I'd say LA +2 is about right.

It's sort of like Crimson_Concerto said: if you take the FR sun elf, add the winged template from Savage Species, and use the average (newly modified) Dex (15), you get the avariel without the racial skill bonuses. At LA +2.

Also, Races of Faerūn is D&D "3.25", i.e. it was published right between the two editions. This it has some 3.0 rule leftovers, like flying at Medium load. Read MM glossary, p. 312, under Movement Modes, Fly (or MM4, p. 214 (it being the most recent MM), or WotC's online glossary entry here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_movementmodes&alpha=M)) for additional information.

And, finally, another elf-like flying, winged race are the fey-ri, also from Races of Faerūn. They're also LA +2 (or LA +3, depending on which spell-like abilities you pick). (Fey-ri are sort of elven tieflings.)

Regards.

No, i meant the fact that the only wings i could see an elf having is feminine little butterfly wings, no big bad-ass feathered angle wings for them...

You could also go with a dragonborn elf with the wings trait. 0 level adjustment. You don't get to actually fly till later levels thou. No bonus damage to the character. No stat mods after combining elf and dragonborn.

I would say that wings should have a +2 LA at lower levels, but decrease to +1 at higher levels (10+).

Using the Unearth Arcana rules you can buy off part of your LA at 6th level for a Winged Elf (Savage Species template), or at 9th level for an Avariel.

hey man, IMHO that's the bestidea of all the three mentioned. winged gives you wings and minor boost to dex. Now your archangel.(xmen)
Averial, i hear, suck major BLz. booo
Half-fey is the most "natural" option for elves given their "natural connection" to fey. not only that ,but it can be ANY insect-type wings... grasshopper......dragonfly.....beetle... .Moths.....just go look for th ecoolest bug you can find with wings...

Ok I went with the core elf, added the SS winged creature, and this is what I got for my AKA High Elf which may or may not be the name for them later.

High Elves
High Elves have all the same features
as Elves are described in the Players Handbook 3.5 Edition,
excepted as following:
• +4 Dexterity, –2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom: High elves
are graceful but frail. An elf’s grace makes her naturally better
at stealth and archery. High elf has long life and has acquired
a large amount of wisdom, and find religion to be the
foundation of their life.
• Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special
bonuses or penalties due to their size.
• Elf base land speed is 30 feet. A High Elf is born with
feathered wings, spanning about 12 feet, giving them a fly
speed of 50, with good maneuverability.
• Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial
saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects
• Low-light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a
human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions
of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color
and detail under these conditions.
• Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial
Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow
(including composite longbow), and shortbow (including
composite shortbow) as bonus feats. Elves esteem the arts of
swordplay and archery, so all elves are familiar with these
weapons.
• +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks.
An high elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or
concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if
she were actively looking for it. An high elf’s senses are so
keen that she practically has a sixth sense about hidden
portals.
• Automatic Languages: Common and Elven. Bonus
Languages: Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan.
Elves commonly know the languages of their enemies and of
their friends, as well as Draconic, the language commonly
found in ancient tomes of secret knowledge.
• Favored Class: Cleric. A multiclass high elf’s Cleric
class does not count when determining whether she takes an
experience point penalty for multiclassing (see XP for
Multiclass Characters, page 60).
• Level adjustment +2

So there we have them let me know if that looks about right with LA and everything or anyone thinks that maybe they may be to strong for the LA.

Really I just want to know if they are going to balanced for a game with mostly WotC core races in it.

High Elf is the default name for elves. You might want to rename it.

Yea I realize that but right now my group are calling the default name for them as forest elves...... Just using High Elf for a start not even sure we are going to call them that.
