| Orion Polaris06-11-07, 07:36 PM | I find Half-Elves to be a bit on the weak side when it comes to the other starting races, and was wondering, would giving them the extra 4 skill points at level 1 and extra 1 skill point at every level after that unbalance the race? It might make the humans a bit less unique, but they still have the bonus feat all to themselves. :) |
| Salla06-11-07, 07:48 PM | Doing so is actually a house rule posted in Unearthed Arcana. I think it would work nicely. |
| Neutronium_Dragon06-11-07, 07:54 PM | I don't think it's such a good idea as of 3.5E. It ends up leaving the difference between the two as a human bonus feat vs everything else which half-elves get, which is certainly more than a feat worth. I would be more inclined to give them something else which implies flexibility without directly trampling on the human's advantage, such as allowing a half-elf to choose one skill which always counts as a class skill. |
| bobothechimp06-11-07, 08:30 PM | It wouldn't be unbalancing. It wouldn't even be enough to call it balancing. |
| Shadowfax706-11-07, 08:44 PM | I would remove the +2 to Diplomacy & Gather Information checks if you give them the Human skill bonuses. It is what I do IMC and has worked fine enough to get people to choose Half-elf as a race. |
| Roivas06-12-07, 03:30 AM | I prefer giving them half of the human's bonus skills. 2 at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at odd numbered levels. Makes them more flexable and a slightly more attractive race without taking everything away from humans. Of course I also remove their immunity to sleep and just give them a bonus against it. |
| Warforged Goblin06-12-07, 09:34 AM | It hasn't unbalanced my game yet. |
| The_Shaman06-12-07, 10:27 AM | I think it's fine. |
