(This is a work in progress)

Xax'suel are subspecies of human that can trace it's boodlines back to the far-realm.

History
In ancient times (think dawn of civilation/Egypt/Sumer/Babylon) a great civilization worshiped great beings from beyond space and time. Their cities grew great, utilizing forbidden knowledge to build biomechanical sturctures and weapons. These great beings whispered to the minds of the clergy giving them the power to rule over all. At the height of their empire, they were commanded to build a great gate in their capital city to allow thier kind passage to begin a new age of enlightenment.
The clerics done as they were commanded, but what came through that gate was not what they expected, it was the end of life as they knew it. Creatures beyond imagining slithered and glided through the gate. The very energies released by the gate transformed the very earth around them into a desolate wasteland. Seeing what they must do, the high preists destroyed the gate angering the creatures who already crossed, and in turn slaughtered every last one of them. The Armies of the empire exausted themselves slaying most of these creatures.
The people of the empire were imprisoned in a wasteland of their own making. Having attacked and alienated themselves from the surrounding regions, no one would come to their aid, and would attack them on sight. Fortunatly these other nations still feared them, and they wouldn't dare attack them. Nor would they even aproach the tainted lands.
Eking out a life in this tainted land was made easier by their mostly still intact technology, but it had an effect on them both physically and mentally. They could see with absolute perfection at things close to them, but were practically blind at greater distances. The sheer range of colours they can percieve makes it impossible to describe the colour of an object as they percieve it. Mild deformations were common; a small apparently vestigial limb or organ apearing on their body, biomechanical arteries forming across their flesh (think H.R.Giger). Though usually nothing that can't be hidden by clothing. Hair and eye colouration can be multiple colours simultaneously, which to lesser beings is baffling because they can only see one colour at a time.
Currently the Xax'suel live biomechanical cities deep below the wastes. Their cities were built in the beginning of the empire with forbiden knowledge. Technologically, they are far advanced beyond any typical humanoid society, though few Xax'suel knows how their technology works. Their cities are entirely self-sufficient, and have no need of trade, which works fine for them since they prefer not to interact with other races. Knowing the dangers of the far realm better than any mortal, the Xax'suel devote themselves to prevent the borders of reality from being crossed. Xax'suel warrior cults hunt down far realm creatures and their mortal worshippers. Destroying or confiscating the research and artifacts of the far realm foolish mortals procure. They primarly concentrate their efforts against far-realm creatures, though they consider most evil outsiders and aberrations to fall under this same category.
Despite their war with the far-realm, all Xax'suel have are bonded to it, and often dream of landscapes of infinite possibility beyond the scope of perception. Some Xax'suel give into these dreams and leave Xax'suel society. They join the cults of far-realm worshippers in an anointed position, and are the greatest threat to Xax'suel society.

Personality and Alignment
Despite their connection to the Far-realm Xax'suel are not crazy, In fact they are usually more sane than most humanoids. They value truth more than anything, Xax'suel tend to act directly. If they identify something or someone as a problem, they will remove it with no remose. Though they see the minds most of other mortals as too frail to grasp the truth, and have no problem lying to those they see as too weak to understand the truth. They are usually lawful neutral in alignment.

Xax'suel
Medium: As Medium creatures, Xax'suel have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Xax'suel base land speed is 30 feet.
Immunity to confusion and insanity effects.
Deep Sight: Xax'suel possess a unique form of sensory perception, born both of both the far-realm and the prime. Using their eyes, Xax'suel automatically succed all spot checks within 30'. Also within this range all concealment and glamar effects (invisibility, blur, displacement, ect...) are negated, so visabilibilty doesn't hamper movement. However beyond this range Xax'suel have poor eyesight and take a -10 to spot checks. Xax'suel are effectively colour blind, though they can read.
Spell resistance equal to class levels x 1.5 rounding down.
Natural Weapons: 2 slams (1d4)
Automatic Languages: Common and Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Celestial, Draconic, Infernal and Terran.
Favored Class: Cleric. A multiclass Xax'suel's cleric class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

This is crazy badass and the best fusion of abilities and backstory that I've ever seen. ``\-^-^-``/

Questions. When you say "nothing" can hamper movement, does that mean terrain too? I can see that to an extent, but what if you're tied up in ropes? That kinda doesn't make sense..

Also, is there any weird thing that happens if they get blindsense/blindsight/tremorsense etc.?

Thank you, Made said adjustments and nothing wierd, most of those abilities would just replace deepsight.

I love the history behind them. Very cool. And it's great as a race by itself. The SR is kind of weak at the earlier levels. That's actually good. That way there's no LA.

You may want to specify that the spot check penalty applies only to the use of eyes as well, as spot checks are required in some circumstances by blindsight, tremorsense etc.; the main application of which I am thinking is Dark Stalker.

Also, you should post this race at the dnd wiki (dandwiki.com)

The two slams only do as much damage as a person wit hthe Improved Unarmed Strike feat. . .perhaps 1d6?

Xax'suel
Medium: As Medium creatures, Xax'suel have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. [0 FP]
Xax'suel base land speed is 30 feet. [0 FP]
Immunity to confusion and insanity effects. [3 FP]
Deep Sight: Xax'suel possess a unique form of sensory perception, born both of both the far-realm and the prime. Using their eyes, Xax'suel automatically succed all spot checks within 30'. Also within this range all concealment and glamar effects (invisibility, blur, displacement, ect...) are negated, so visabilibilty doesn't hamper movement. blindsight out to 30 ft. However beyond this range Xax'suel have poor eyesight and take a -10 penalty to spot checks. Xax'suel are effectively colour blind, though they can read. [27-1 = 26 FP (see below)]
Spell resistance equal to class levels x 1.5 rounding down. [8.5 FP (see below)]
Natural Weapons: 2 slams (1d4) [? 1 FP (see below)]
Total = 38.5 FP, LA+1 balanced (high end).

The vision ability described for this race is nearly identical to that of blindsight, making the long-winded description unnecessary and confusing. The penalty to vision beyond 30 ft is worth -1 FP, with colorblindness having no effect on game mechanics.

Spell resistance actually starts out pretty weak, but gets stronger as a character gains levels. Since value at later levels is reduced based on the wait time, the overall value of the progression peaks at 8.5 FP around level 6.

For the slam attacks, I assume that these require free hands. If they can use their natural attacks and normal weapon attacks in the same round, then the two slams will be significantly more valuable.

Confusion and insanity effects (as caused by spells and supernatural abilities) are only a minor immunity. This changes if the DM employs special insanity rules (such as insanity points, etc).

@ flaiquiri I never heard of making spot checks with blindsight before?
I've never participated in a wiki site before, do you own this one?

@yabba
I'm no longer a big believer in the FP system, you have to look at the whole rather than just the parts.

My long winded description does make a few very important distinctions between blind sight and deep sight. Deep sight does relies on eye sight so they can be blinded, and they are vulrable to gaze attacks, visual effects, most illusions (just not those of the glamer school at close range), and other attack forms that rely on sight. So one simply cannot shut their eyes and annd fight a medusa like a blind sighted creature can. And they don't gain any blind sense when they are asleep.

colourblindness does make an impact on gameplay, like lets say for a trap that you have to put the red disks in the red slots and the blue disks in the blue slots. They are going to need a sighted creater to help them. This is something that can't be effectively measured by FP however.

Now a -10 penalty being worth -1 FP is the usual case, if lets say it's favored class barbarian and it's a penalty to knowledge checks. but a -10 penalty to spotchecks is a big thing, beyond 30' they are effectively blind, any enemy in the shadows will almost definitely go unnoticed. as you said, blind with blind sight is an even trade, so they have a weak version of blind sight in exchange for clinical blindness.

Now the spell resistance is basicaly useless until higher levels. a level 10 Xax'suel will have spell resistance 15, now enemy spell casters are usually a few levels higher than individual perty members so a 12th level spell caster would have to roll anything higher than a 3, it's not going to fail often. And party spell casters are going to have a harder time casting useful spells on them. the cost SR is exponential, low SR is basically useless, but high SR will make you invincible.

And I thought about sanity rules, Xax'suel would likey cause sanity damage to non-Xax'suel players, unless it's an all Xax'suel party at which point there is no point in using sanity rules to begin with. :D

I would have to say they are an LA+0 race.

I'd give them one slam, and make the second slam a racial feat.
I base this solely off the fact that that is how they did it with warforged.

I'm no longer a big believer in the FP system, you have to look at the whole rather than just the parts. Suit yourself. It's still a better gauge than you're using. Your description, as it is worded, actually gives them everything that blindsight or, more specifically, the True Seeing spell at will would give them (out to 30 ft). No creature gains blind sense or blind sight when asleep, because they're not actively using it. Consider bats, for example. To have blindsense, they need to (a) not be deafened or silenced or in a silenced area, and (b) actively send out screeches. It's still blindsense. Your race still sees through illusions, sees invisible creatures, etc. (If they automatically succeed at spot checks, then they're seeing through illusions.) They gain the full benefits of blindsight out to its range. colourblindness does make an impact on gameplay, like lets say for a trap that you have to put the red disks in the red slots and the blue disks in the blue slots.

I notice you're basically presuming this race will be used for rogues. Meanwhile you've given them favored class Cleric, and have disregarded how well they'd work in melee combat (as barbarians, fighters, or paladins). None of these classes even care about spot checks in most cases.

Blindness with blindsight is not an even trade. I never claimed it was. For one thing, full unbridled blindness carries a number of penalties which go away when the race gains blindsight. In effect, by giving them blindsight, they can never be blind. (Note that immunity to blindness is only a minor benefit in and of itself.) So saying that they're blind, and that this somehow makes it okay to give them blindsight for free, is utter nonsense.

Really all they're getting is a negative to spot checks (which is exactly how it's listed). Negatives to spot checks have a value cap for a reason. Even if you gave your race a -100 penalty to all spot checks, unless the DM said that a barbarian couldn't see the goblin in front of him to hit it with a greataxe, the penalty means next to nothing to many classes. Sometimes you just don't need to make a spot check. And I set the value accordingly. The standard spell resistance, which would theoretically give them a 50% successful resistance rate, typically carries enough cost to award a level adjustment all by itself. Your reduced version does not. It carries the cost equivalent of +1.4 on all saving throws. Your entire argument here is moot. I would have to say they are an LA+0 race. And I would say you're wrong. It's that simple.

I have to agree with Yabba. Its LA:+1. Blindsight is very powerful. I think if it was Blindsense it would be an LA:+0.
