I seem to remember reading a feat somewhere that allowed you to take a 10 ft step in place of a 5 ft step as your free movement each round. Can someone point me to it or confirm that I'm delirious? Much appreciated.

I think it is a specific application of the tumble skill, detailed in OA.
It would be much too powerful for a feat, IMO.

There is a White Raven stance from ToB that allows you to take 2-5' steps during a round, but I really don't think that there is a feat that allows you to do it.

The Sparring Dummy of the Master, in the A&EG allows anyone with a level in monk to take a 10-foot step instead of a 5-foot step.

A&EG is 3.0. Some 3.0 stuff was WAY overpowered. There is no way I would allow that.

I would totally take a level of monk if my DM would allow my scout to encounter one of these.

LOL! And this is why certain 3.0 stuff should not be allowed.

...because for a one level bite (and one that does offer quite a few useful class features), skirmish would get to trigger every single round.

Awwwww yeah :)

Unfortunately, my DM's not stupid enough to let that slide until at least level 21.

You can take that white raven stance but it would take you a while. You would need to take two white raven maneuvers using at least one martial study feat. After using two feats to take those maneuvers you can then take martial stance for Press the Advantage. If you have no levels in martial adept this will take a long time. Press the Advantage is a 5 level maneuver and so takes an initiator level of 9 to pick up. This means the earliest time a non initiator class can pick it up is 18th level.

Anything from 3.0 that was not revised in a 3.5 publication was actually itnended to be used, 3.5 is a revision of an older version not a new version entirly.

and if you think taking a feat to add 5ft to a 5ft step is overpowered you obviously have no clear idea of the power level that a charcter can achieve,
its not like it allows you to dulicate a 9thg level spell.

Tumble from OA. the DC is really high though. 40 IIRC.

Yep. DC40 Tumble check. You can even take a 10' step to the opposite side of an enemy if you're standing next to them - it's considered backflipping over them in fluff terms.

The elocater PrC may take a second 5'-step as a special ability in his career. See the SRD for this psionic PrC.

The Sparring Dummy of the Master, in the A&EG allows anyone with a level in monk to take a 10-foot step instead of a 5-foot step. It's also possible to do the training without a monk level. You just need to make 224 consecutive successful DC 21 Use Magic Device checks to Emulate a Class Feature of a 1st level monk.

If you wanted to get a multiple attacks using a scout, it's not particularly hard to.... Having a feat that provides a 10 ft step is only one of the ways that allow you to trigger skirmish and get full attacks.

Wow, that never occurred to me before... it isn't particularly difficult to get +20 to UMD, and since rolling a 1 on a skill check doesn't automatically fail, this is actually pretty viable!

umm, where did you get 224? you need one check per round right? 224 rounds comes out to 22.4 minutes... I don't understand where you got your numbers from, could you please explain?

Oh, wait, I forgot the special clause in UMD that explicitly does make it fail on a 1. Oh well.

Much appreciated. If this is because you want to abuse your Scout's Skirmish damage on every attack, just say so.

It's much easier to do that than to take a 10-foot step. I ask this because 9/10 times this exact question has been asked, that was the intent.

OK, I'll bite: How do you move 10 feet and still get a full round attack off? I'm currently playing a Human Scout 13 and would really love to know how I can maximize my damage output.
My feats are Track (bought with a flaw), Power Attack, Dodge, Cleave, Mobility, Point Blank Shot, Shot on the Run, Spring Attack, Improved Skirmish, and Acrobatic Strike.

umm, where did you get 224? you need one check per round right? You need to read the skill description more carefully.Use Magic Device

Check: ... If you are using the check to emulate an alignment or some other quality in an ongoing manner, you need to make the relevant Use Magic Device check once per hour.

Action: None. The Use Magic Device check is made as part of the action (if any) required to activate the magic item. The Sparring Dummy of the Master requires training 8 hours a day for 4 weeks, or 224 hours total. Continuous use, as in training, requires an hourly check. There's no case at all where you'd make a UMD check once a round; after all, Use Magic Device is a skill that requires no separate action to use.

OK, I'll bite: How do you move 10 feet and still get a full round attack off? If you've been reading this thread, you'll note that there are various ways to take either a 10' adjustment or two 5' adjustments instead of the usual "not an action" 5' adjustment. So you can move 10' as "not an action" and thus still be permitted to make a full attack. The downside, of course, is that you're going to end up adjacent to your enemy. If you don't kill them with your full attack, prepare to enter a world of hurt.

Only if you are a Dervish.

I can't think of something else.

Two 5 foot steps, or a single 10 foot step isn't all that overpowered. It is mighty handy though, I agree. I don't know if I would give up a level for it though. Not hen there's other ways to do it.

I think I remember a D20 Future Advanced Class with something like that, but that really wouldn't help my D&D character. Dervish might be worth looking into, but I kind of pride myself on not being in a PrC with this group. I've played a druid from level 1 to 16 with no PrC (obviously), and I really, really like the Scout. I think it's one of the best designed and most fun classes out there. Plus, no empty levels! :D

A) as people mentioned its 3.0

B) There was alot more involved, you actually have to spend tons of time training with the sparring dummy.. and of course the dm would have to put it in the game. Meaning they woudl have to know abotu it. lol

Oh, wait, I forgot the special clause in UMD that explicitly does make it fail on a 1. Oh well. Please read the skill description more carefully. It doesn't say that at all.Try Again: Yes, but if you ever roll a natural 1 while attempting to activate an item and you fail, then you can’t try to activate that item again for 24 hours. There is no auto-fail on a natural 1. If a natural 1 is also a failure, you can't try again for a day. If the natural 1 is a success because you have a high UMD modifier, it's simply a success.

Sure enough, thanks for pointing that out. Must be why I forgot about that clause... because it didn't exist! :)
