| Jarii24602-22-07, 04:55 PM | Here’s my idea.... Powerful Swing(needs a better name?) Pre-reqs: Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, BAB +6 Description: When wielding a weapon in two hands, you may add 2xStr modifier to your damage. Normal:Wielding a weapon in two hands you add 1.5xStr Modifier. -------------------- What do you think? |
| MerlintheTuna02-22-07, 04:58 PM | First of all, you misspelled "Powerful" and "wielding." Second, if you have Great Cleave as a requirement, no one will take it, since no one takes Great Cleave to begin with. |
| Platstud02-22-07, 04:59 PM | Doesn't look bad to me. The Great Cleave pre-req. means it's not overpowered, imho. |
| Platstud02-22-07, 05:04 PM | First of all, you misspelled "Powerful" and "wielding." Second, if you have Great Cleave as a requirement, no one will take it, since no one takes Great Cleave to begin with. I thought that was the point. If it doesn't have a crappy feat as a pre-req., it might be a little strong. Maybe not, though....hmmmm... |
| Inigo Carmine02-22-07, 05:45 PM | Note: This is already a prestige class ability for the exotic weapon master. Generally, prestige class abilities are more powerful than feats. |
| Jarii24602-22-07, 05:48 PM | Note: This is already a prestige class ability for the exotic weapon master. Generally, prestige class abilities are more powerful than feats. According to the prestige class it is for one-handed weapons only , unless it has changed since I last read it. |
| DarkRhystar02-22-07, 06:11 PM | I don't like it. There's already a general power imbalance toward two-handed fighting compared to two-weapon and sword-board; all this really accomplishes is tipping the scales more in favor of the THF style which isn't at all necessary. |
| wonlee7602-22-07, 09:09 PM | I would suggest throwing the Fighter a bone and putting a solid Fighter Level pre-req to this feat. Maybe Fighter 10 or something. :P *My suggestion is only due to the fact that I feel there should be good feats for fighters to give them incentives to continue sticking it out in the Fighter class* |

Normal:Wielding a weapon in two hands you add 1.5xStr Modifier. -------------------- What do you think? Another thing to add, I am wanting to change some of the feats in the Warhulk Prc, and I thought this would be a great finale. Warhulk changes: 8 Toughness(normally in the class anyway) 9 Improved Toughness 10 Powerfull Swing Yes? No? Maybe??? Any input is good input. |
| Part-Human202-23-07, 05:50 PM | My thoughts are somebody wants to exploit a high str with as little as possible expenditure so they made a feat better than class abilities. |
| Baron Rod02-23-07, 09:22 PM | In the Netbook of Feats there is allready a feat that does that. Two-Handed Power strike. BAB +9, Power Attack are the Prerequistes. Baron Rod |
| magmer202-24-07, 01:35 AM | If you have a 36 strength this feat will give 6.5 to damage. Melee weapon mastery+ PA gives +6 to damage. So I would say its balanced, not counting warhulk or similar things |
| Jarii24602-28-07, 09:34 AM | Thanks all, I would like to give it a few more days to see if anybody else has any comments! Thanks! |

So I would say its balanced, not counting warhulk or similar things Melee weapon mastery is an extraordinarily good feat. I don't think its fair to use it as a comparison for balance purposes. Powerful swing as written is considerably better than Weapon Specialization, which is a more reasonable benchmark. |
| bob_the_great02-28-07, 11:16 AM | on the surface it seems powerful. with a 30 STR it gives you +5 to damage. with the great cleave pre-req it seems not so bad. i hate crappy feat pre-reqs but they do kind of work. i like the previous suggestion of adding a fighter level pre-req. that removes the reservations i have against it. as-is I would probably say no, but allowing it wouldn't be game-breaking. |

Normal:Wielding a weapon in two hands you add 1.5xStr Modifier. -------------------- What do you think? Ok here is a revamped version. Not many changes, added a few prereqs. Powerful Swing Pre-reqs: Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave,BAB +6, Weapon Focus(any two-handed weapon), Weapon Specialization(same two-handed weapon you have WF in) Description: When wielding your chosen weapon in two hands, you may add 2xStr modifier to your damage. Normal:Wielding a weapon in two hands you add 1.5xStr Modifier. |
| Zumarai03-02-07, 09:52 AM | Note: This is already a prestige class ability for the exotic weapon master. And the Hammer of Moradin PrC when wielding a warhammer. |

Maybe Fighter 10 or something. :P *My suggestion is only due to the fact that I feel there should be good feats for fighters to give them incentives to continue sticking it out in the Fighter class* What about this feat says "Hi, I'm a Fighter feat, only Fighters should get me, and nobody else"? Cause y'know, this honestly seems like more of a BARBARIAN thing than a Fighter thing, in my opinion. |
| Vaelan03-02-07, 09:55 AM | There's already a general power imbalance toward two-handed fighting compared to two-weapon and sword-board; all this really accomplishes is tipping the scales more in favor of the THF style which isn't at all necessary. I have to put something here, even though DarkRhystar said everything that needs to be said. Feats that benefit only two-handed weapons are bad because the only way to implement them and maintain the already tenuous balance between two-handed weapons and two-weapon fighting is to make an accompanying two-weapon fighting feat. However, two-weapon fighters already have to take more feats than two-handed fighters, so it really isn't balanced then. For every feat you take that benefits only two-handed fighters, write a more powerful feat that benefits only two-weapon fighters, otherwise you're just making a significant problem even worse. |
| Zumarai03-02-07, 10:00 AM | For every feat you take that benefits only two-handed fighters, write a more powerful feat that benefits only two-weapon fighters, otherwise you're just making a significant problem even worse. A Feat to get full Str bonus with your off-hand? |
| wonlee7603-02-07, 12:40 PM | What about this feat says "Hi, I'm a Fighter feat, only Fighters should get me, and nobody else"? Cause y'know, this honestly seems like more of a BARBARIAN thing than a Fighter thing, in my opinion. It may feel like a barbarian thing but barbarians get enough snazzy abilities as they level up that it doesn't have to be a barbarian thing (greater and mighty rage, DR, etc. etc.). Depending on the fighter pre-req, a barbarian could still take the feat. They just need to invest in some fighter levels to do so. I only suggest Fighter 10 just for the sake of giving fighters some "high end" feats that do more than normal feats (and I consider this feat a high end feat). |
| Vaelan03-02-07, 02:24 PM | A Feat to get full Str bonus with your off-hand? That isn't more powerful and thus two-weapon fighting gets relatively weaker because two-handed fighters can more easily afford to take the feat than two-weapon fighters. Also, two-weapon fighters are less likely to have the high Strength that a two-handed fighter will because they must focus to an extent upon Dexterity, making this feat even worse. |
| Jarii24603-02-07, 05:37 PM | That isn't more powerful and thus two-weapon fighting gets relatively weaker because two-handed fighters can more easily afford to take the feat than two-weapon fighters. Also, two-weapon fighters are less likely to have the high Strength that a two-handed fighter will because they must focus to an extent upon Dexterity, making this feat even worse. But isn’t that the cost of being a two-weapon fighter? You not focusing on hitting hard with your weapons, you’re focusing on more and more attacks. When someone is just focusing on hitting hard they go with a two-handed weapon, and when they want a lot of attacks they go with two-weapon fighting. This idea isn’t a bad feat, it is the players choice whether they want to go with powerful hits or a lot of attacks that don’t do as much damage. I am just trying to see if this feat is balanced, so please no more debate about two-weapon fighting and two-handed fighting. Thanks! |
