| Evil_Uncle_Tony09-01-07, 07:47 AM | Can some one clear this up for me? There is a wizard called lets say his name is Ted. He is in base to base contact with an Orc who is fighting him. On Ted’s go can he simply take a 5ft step back and cast a spell avoiding an attack of opportunity? |
| Naderion09-01-07, 07:49 AM | Yes. |
| tarkin09-01-07, 08:13 AM | This is relatively realistic. If you want to stop some from casting (or firing an arrow), you generally have to grapple them, not simply get close. The other option is to back them into a corner, which also works. |

A tripped wizard can cast from prone, and provoke an AoO (if he doesn't concentrate). Or he can crawl five feet as a move action, and provoke an AoO. Or he can stand up as a move action, and provoke an AoO. Most likely he'll cast a spell to get him out of the sticky situation, make his concentration check to do so without provoking, and kill you on his next turn. |
