Fell Drain (from Libris Mortis) takes a slot 2 levels higher and allows you to drain a level from any living creature that takes damage.

The fact that there is no save for this level loss is really good.

However some spells do ongoing damage, so does this mean that for spells like Acid Fog (that does damage every round), 1 level can be lost from each living thing caught in the acid fog provided they take damage from the acid fog, EVERY ROUND they are in the acid fog?

If so this is an incredible feat.

Fell Drain drains a level ONCE per creature per casting of the spell

The fact that a spell does damage multiple times does not change this.

There is nothing in it that at all implies the drain is per damage. It is per casting.

Tarkin this is where it gets interesting.

The feat states you lose a level whenver you take damage, it does not state you only lose the level once.

If I Empowered an Acid Fog the damage is empowered each round that a foe exists in the fog cloud.

If I added the feats Fell Drain and Empower to an Acid Fog why couldn't I multiply the damage by 1.5 each round and cause the target(s) to lose a level each round they take damage.

Tarkin this is where it gets interesting.

The feat states you lose a level whenver you take damage, it does not state you only lose the level once. No, as a matter of fact it does not. It says that "any living creature that is dealt damage" takes a negative level, not "each time a creature takes damage" it gains a negative level.

If I Empowered an Acid Fog the damage is empowered each round that a foe exists in the fog cloud. So? Empower affects all "variable numeric effects" of a spell. A spell that deals 1d6 damage per round for three rounds generates three random damaging effects. Empower applies to them all.

If I added the feats Fell Drain and Empower to an Acid Fog why couldn't I multiply the damage by 1.5 each round and cause the target(s) to lose a level each round they take damage.Because on subsequent rounds, the damage dealt by the spell to a creature it damaged in the first round does not change that creature's history from "a creature not damaged by the spell" to "a creature damaged by the spell." Therefore the Fell Drain feat cannot affect the creature again.

Magic Missile and Fell Drain is pretty good. I know it's now what you're looking for, but it's a low level spell that can hit multiple targets with no save. I'm guessing Acid splash would work, too.

Fireball is also effective against everyone but rogues and monks. Even if they make their save, they still lose a level.

Obviously not.

Also, a Magic Missile used to hit a target more than once would still only provide one level to the target.

Yea MM becomes more interesting with multiple targets.

But it can hit up to five targets at once.

Yes you can use fell drain to give a negative level to each creature hit by a magic missile. That is upto 5.

Similarly, you can use it on a fireball to give one to ALL the creatures damaged by it. That can easily be 20 people.

Giving one negative level to a lot of people is nice, but nowhere as nice as giving multiple levels to a single person.
