Ability Focus, Is there a Greater? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-23-07, 11:53 AM Hello there, I'm playing a Hellbred Paladin of Torm in the Realms. I plan on taking Hellreaver as a prestige class and in the description of Hellreaver it mentions taking Ability Focus to help with the DC on the Divine Retribution ability. This feat is in the MMI and is great for this ability.

Now for my question: Is there a Greater version of this? (i.e. Greater Ability Focus or Improved Ability Focus)

If there is where can I find it and if not what about other feats that would help increase the DC of this Ability?

Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus are Similar in nature and I would think that there should be a Greater Ability Focus somewhere.

07-23-07, 11:59 AM To my knowledge there is not, and since Ability Focus already gives a +2 bonus, you should not expect to see one in the future.

However, there is Sudden Ability Focus in Tome of Magic that works like Ability Focus on any ability spontaneously 1/day, and it stacks with Ability Focus.

As it stands, this feat has twice the power that Spell Focus has--the only reason there would be a Greater Ability Focus was if Ability Focus gave a +1 bonus, and the Greater version raised it to +2.

Thanks.:D This will work great! Too bad it's just 1/day. Though you can take it multiple times to increase #/day by one.

I also found an item in the MIC pg 145 called the Veil of Allure which increases the DC of charisma based saves. Divine Retribution is (10 + ½ Character level + Charisma Modifier). Just looking for something a little less girlish for my male character who by the way is NOT gay.

I'll see if my DM will allow me to have one crafted as a Helm or something.

07-23-07, 03:48 PM If I remember properly, Savage Species had feats that raised save DCs for specific attacks that stack with Ability Focus. You may want to check there.

Thanks for the reference. :) Though, after looking, none that would work with the Divine Retribution ability of the Hellreaver Prestige Class.

Lets not forget that ability focus only applies to one ability though while lets say invocation focus applies on a whole school of spells ^^

True. Then what about other Skills, Feats or Magic items that will increase the DC?

Right now I have these:

Feat: Ability Focus (Divine Retribution) [Many sources MMI-MMIV and SS]

Feat: Sudden Ability Focus (Divine Retribution) [ToM]

Item: Veil of Allure [MIC]

Each give a +2 Bonus to the DC, though, Sudden Ability Focus is only 1/day unless taking multiple times. Divine Retribution is also 1/day.

On a side note is there any thing (i.e. feat, skill, item) that will increase the #/day of a supernatural ability. In other words, to make Divine Retribution not 1/day but 2/day or more.
