| Katana_Uno04-04-07, 02:06 AM | I have a 7th level Neutral Good Wizard who's Diety is Pelor. One of Pelor's Domains is Healing. Can my Wizard take the Arcane Disciple Feat, page 79 Complete Divine, and begin casting Healing Domain Spells? My Wizard meets all of the requirments for the feat and has a 16 Wisdom. What I'm unsure about is how this works. Do these Healing spells become Arcane spells that are written in my spellbook? If this is the case, couldn't these spells be copied by another Wizard and then used in his/her spellbook? |
| runestar04-04-07, 02:12 AM | It is true that those divine spells are added to your spell list. While you could scribe an arcane scroll of say, cure light wounds, another wizard would not be able to use it, much less scribe it into his spellbook, since he does not have cure light wounds on his spell list.:) |
| Bedevere04-04-07, 03:54 AM | As stated above, you gain the spells as arcane spells on your spell list. This does not mean that any other wizard can cast them, as they are not on their spell list. Your spell list = "Wizard spells" + "Healing domain" You could however use and make magic items like scrolls of cure light wounds, that a bard could also use / make. Both would be arcane magic, both would have the spell on their class list... :) Out of interest, has anyone ever used this feat for anything except the healing domain? :P |
| Southernskies04-04-07, 06:35 AM | Yes. I use it for the Glory domain. Access to Bless Weapon, Searing Light, Holy Smite and Holy Weapon as a wizard? Where is the downside? :D Well, actually, the downside is that you can't get arcane scrolls of those spells to scribe into your spellbook, so the only way to add them is with your 2 'free' spells for levelling. :weep: Don't forget that you can only prepare/cast 1 of each level per day and you don't get an extra spell slot, reducing the number of 'regular' spells you can cast per day. |
| tarkin04-04-07, 11:30 AM | As a Sorceror, I have taken Arcane Disciple (Luck) Entropic Shield, Freedom of Movement and Miracle were the spells I choose to learn. |
| Merestil Haye04-04-07, 12:01 PM | it's worth emphasising that by taking the Arcane Disciple feat, you do not learn the spells on the domain. They get added to your class list. Thus they become spells that you can learn, the same way all spells on the sorcerer/wizard class list are spells you can learn. You have to either find an (arcane) scroll of the spell, find another wizard who has gone down the same route and learned the spells, or take the spells as part of levelling up. I have never used the feat, but in my last campaign, it was taken by 2 or 3 characters (one a Warmage, iirc) and Healing was not the domain of choice. (Yes it's very good for a Warmage, because he knows all spells on his class spell list. The option is kept in check by increased MAD problems in maintaining a high Wis on top of everything else.) |

I retrained it away for something else when I realized that I had a 12 Wisdom and burning a feat for cure light wounds and cure moderate wounds once each per day really wasn't worth it. |
| dpskane04-14-07, 04:21 PM | well, take incantatrix and then buff the hell out of them with persistent spell (e.g. competition domain for divine power, rightous might, prayer, greater visage of the deity ....) |
