i think this is the right spot for this. when you age and your at middle age you have -1 to str dex and con and +1 to int wis cha then at old age you get -2 str dex and con but still only +1 to int wis and cha then at venerable the penalty becomes -3 to str dex and con but still only +1 to int wis and cha.

lets see if im getting this the penalty for getting older goes up while the bonus stays the same? this seams dumb, why doesn’t the bonus increase?

wate read the PHB again and saw that at the end the effect -3 +2

why is'nt it -3 str dex con +3 int wis cha

Just a little bit too appealing for spellcasters I imagine.

The aging effects aren't there to be balanced, they're there to represent how old people tend to be weak and physically inable but somewhat smarter or wiser.

Incidentally, the penalties/bonuses go from this:
-1/+1
-3/+2
-6/+3
(The penalties & bonuses stack, which is what gives you these results.)

Has anybosy else ever kicked around the idea of removing certain aging stat penalties for certain races. Such as half-orcs not losing strength when they hit middle age, or elves not losing their legendary agility and grace into their long-lived venerable years. Perhaps dwarves remain just as healthy until death. Anybody else care to comment?

those all sound like great variants to me!

dragonwrought kobolds are unaffected by the ill effects of age.

so my old earth kobold (-2 str, -2 con) scout has the stats: (32 point buy) old (+2 int, +2 wis, +2 cha)

str 12
dex 16
con 14
int 14
wis 14
cha 14

lots of skill points and rather nice saving throws.
dragonwrought feat owns

-you get pretty scales
-immune to sleep and paralysis
- dragon type instead of dragon blood
- live longer (after vulnerable u get 10x cha bonus xtra years)
- and finally no physical attribute penalties for age

WOOOOOT
