| gjmarvon02-27-07, 11:57 AM | Is there a feat for ambidexterity? I have a Ranger who fights with 2 weapons. I'm looking to Prestiege class him and saw that the Tempest Prestiege class gains ambidexterity to lessen the penalties. However, if there is an ambidexterity feat I might go another route with my prestiege class? |

| WinterPsionic02-27-07, 12:17 PM | The old Ambidexterity was built into TWF, the only way I know of to negate the penalties is with that class. Otherwise the whole TWF chain just gives more and more attacks last time I checked, though I suppose there might have been something put out recently that does something similiar though I doubt it. |
| Willie the Duck02-27-07, 09:07 PM | Ambidexterity as a concept is built into the twf feat. The tempest PrC has a class feature called "ambidexterity" which could have as easily been called "reduced penalty twf". There is no feat that directly replicates this ability, although there are a near infinite number of feats that make twf combat more effective, if you are willing to keep investing feats. |
| ClementWillowbreaker02-27-07, 10:01 PM | In order to restore some of the "ambidexterity" to TWF, I allow characters with Improved TWF to decide which weapon is primary and gets their full Str bonus (which only really matters if you have the same size weapons in each hand, but different enchantment/DR piercing, and even then not a lot). But it is a bone to throw. |

But it is a bone to throw. That's not even a house rule. You've always been able to decide which hand is your primary one. In fact by the rules, you could potentially be holding a longsword in each hand, and so long as you don't take an extra attack, decide whichever of the two is your "primary" hand with no penalty whatsoever. |
| philnicau02-28-07, 03:30 AM | we have a house rule we've been using for years, if you wish to determine whether you're PC is right handed, left handed or ambidexturous. you roll a d6 & d20, if the d20 is higher you're right handed if the d6 is higher you're left handed if they are the same number you're ambi. ie roll 5 on d6, 15 on d20=right roll 5 on d6, 4 on d20=left roll 5 on d6, 5 on d20=ambi. |

Maybe in YOUR game. The issue isn't directly addressed by the RAW. Just because the 3.5 tells us we have dominant and non-dominant hand, then completely ignores it, doesn't mean we all ignore it. Most DMs I have played with agree, and hold players accountable. Hence the feat benefit. |
| SephDragoon02-28-07, 08:27 PM | Frankly, I'd just say that your primary hand gets a +1 to AB when TWF'ing... and use the syste described earlier. If they manage to get ambi, then +1 to both hands. This is a variant on what I am using currently, where my character TWF's, and was originally right handed. But after losing their left arm and getting a graft, the other arm is getting a +2 to AB. Because of this, the handedness is seen as switched from right to left, since that is the higher AB. |
| Lord_Iames02-28-07, 08:57 PM | I homebrewed this feat as part of a reworking of the TWF feats and options, which you might find interesting. Ambidexterity [General] You can use both hands in combat equally well. Prerequisites: Str 15, Dex 15. Benefit: Your off hand is treated as your on hand when fighting with two weapons. That is, you take -6 to attack rolls made with either hand when fighting with two weapons. If you have the Two Weapon Fighting Feat, this is reduced to -4, as this feat reduces penalties to attacks made with your on hand by two. If you also have the Oversized Two Weapon Fighting feat, or wield at least one light weapon, the penalties to all attacks are -2. Attacks made with your off hand add your full strength bonus to damage rolls. Normal: See Table 8-10: Two Weapon Fighting Penalties on page 160 of the PHB. Special: A character need not have this feat to be able to write with both hands. A fighter may take this feat as a fighter bonus feat. |
| Frugal03-01-07, 08:56 AM | I homebrewed this feat as part of a reworking of the TWF feats and options, which you might find interesting. Isn't this just going back to 3.0 style TWF where you need both TWF and ambidexterity feats to get to a -4/-4 (or -2/-2 with a light weapon or oversized TWF)? |

Not at all. TWF still gets you to -4/-4 or -2/-2 w/light weapon or OTWF. My version of Ambidexterity does 2 things: 1) If you don't have TWF, your penalties are -6/-6 rather than -6/-10. 2) You add your full Strength bonus to damage for both weapons. |
| Melpomene03-01-07, 04:33 PM | Ambidexterity also appears as a Talent feat in Monte Cooke's Arcana Evolved (which is noncore 3.5, but still a good book). |
