The Brixashulty makes a Strength check with a +7 bonus, which includes a +4 racial bonus. If the “Bull Rush” succeeds, the foe is driven back 5 feet and must make a DC 12 Reflex save or fall down.If being driven back would force the opponent into a barrier or into a square where it cannot stop (such as a wall or a square that already contains another creature), the foe falls down in its square instead. The Reflex save DC is Strength-based". Question 1: Where does the +7 come from? My Animal Companion Brixishulty is now 6 HD, and I want to know if this affects the bonus. I get +4 because he is a quadraped, but where do the other bonuses come from? HD gives him +1 BAB, and str 13 gives him +1 Melee. Question 2: If "Knockback" is successful and there is a wall or person behind the opponent, do they still have to make a DC save after the Strength check, or would they fall down? We have been playing like that so far per the way the rules read. Thanks! |
| haferka04-10-07, 05:46 PM | It is a racial bonus.. like the owls +8 bonus to spot at night. |
| wolverineX3D04-11-07, 03:53 PM | When I read the entry, it says only +4 is a racial bonus...so where do the other 3 come from? "...The Brixashulty makes a Strength check with a +7 bonus, which includes a +4 racial bonus...". I get +4 because he is a quadraped racially, but where do the other 3 bonuses come from? Starting 2 HD gives him +1 BAB. Starting Strength 13 gives +1 Melee. I dont see any updated erratta on ROTW, but maybe its incorrect? Thanks... |
| Terronus04-11-07, 04:05 PM | The bonus HD of an animal companion do raise its BaB and saving throws (animals have an average BaB progression and good Fort and Ref saves). Is the Brixashulty a Large creature? That seems to be the only factor you haven't taken into account for determining it's knockback modifier. If not, I would have to assume that it is an error. |
| jaelis04-11-07, 04:12 PM | Evidently it should really be a +6 racial bonus. (Or perhaps it should really be a +5 net modifier.) Your BAB is irrelevant to a Strength check, but if your companion's Str increases, that would apply. So this ability really takes no account of the size of the target? That's pretty odd. |
| haferka04-11-07, 04:23 PM | There is an "assumed" charge bonus of +2 +1 Str, +4 racial, +2 charge = +7 |
| jaelis04-11-07, 04:26 PM | You mean the ability only works when you are charging? |
| haferka04-11-07, 05:41 PM | You mean the ability only works when you are charging? no, I mean that a Charge durring a bull rush grants a +2 bonus to the bull rush... the author probably included the +2 bonus from a charge.. assuming that it always applied.. It was a mistake |
| wolverineX3D04-11-07, 06:56 PM | That sounds like what may have happened...no BAB. Str 13: +1 Racial: +4 Charge: +2 equals +7. The Brixishulty Knockback feat is a little different than the entries for humans and in other books, so i will keep what the book says until i hear back from wotc (just emailed them). And the medium sized Brixishulty doesnt get a bonus or minus for size, its the opponent who gets either -4 or +4 to defend against it. Thanks! |
| haferka04-12-07, 09:54 AM | I see the racial knockback ability as completly seperate and unique from the Feat "Knockback". |
| Emeramber04-12-07, 01:50 PM | What are the brixie's hit dice? Many creatures hit dice figure into their save/check mechanics. As a simple shorthand, it's fairly safe to assume that it probably is increased by +1 for every new even hit die, as well as for every point of strength mod increased. |
