What feats can be given to an animal companion? The Monster Manual mentions a few, but its very limited and restrictive to combat related feats.

Can't they be given some feats from the PHB depending on how they fit? For example I got a Hyena companion with Scent already, but could he be given the Track feat also?

I would look at the feats in the monster manual under the various animals. For example, I have a Badger familiar that has the Track and Weapons Finesse feats right out of the MM. I would say that most feats that an animal has in the MM would be fair game for other animals.

in the MM it states that you can use any feats, as long as the monster/ac is eligable for them and meet all requirements, so I see no reason why you cant use PHB feats for your AC, unless it is stated somewhere that you can only use MM feats.

Feats are trained abilities. So, as long as prereqs are met, anyone can take any feat even for animals

sorry for jumping in the thread but is pretty related.

Can you give an animal multi attack feat?

Say I have a wolf. Can i give it Multi attack to give it two claw attacks?

Is there a way to give it claw attacks?

Multiattack is for multi-limbed creatures with (prereq) "3 or more natural attacks." Wolves only has one natural attack (bite) and thus cannot qualify for the feat. It can bite multiple times if his BAB is high enough like any characters tho. So a +6 BAB for the wolf will allow it to attack twice at +6/+1.

Actually vorpo its can not bite twice.

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#naturalWeapons

Says "Creatures do not receive additional attacks from a high base attack bonus when using natural weapons."

So by going off this a wolf will forever have one attack at clerics BAB that does crappy damage >.<

You can always rule a tamed animal can be considered trained in combat and thus receive additional attacks with higher BAB
