Okay, the other day I had what is possibly a crazy idea. Say your a level 6 sorceror with leadership. You have a variety of lv1. lackeys that would get slaughtered in seconds in a fight, so you need to protect them/give them cover. So that got me thinking, how about a covered wagon with arrow slits, where they can fire crossbows out from safety.

Then, i had my stroke of brilliance: Animate objects and permenancy. Its fairly expensive to have someone cast it for you, somewhere between 2 and 3000gp. However, you get an extremely durable armored box to carry around your loyal goons. Add like a ballista on top or some sort of killing device and you have yourself a tank that goes at 60ft per turn and never tires if my calculations are correct, thats ludicrously further per day than virtually any other means of transport. Also, if you give all of your lv 1 guys masterwork crossbows, and weapon focus, they can actually hit things once in a while. And the thing holding them can make some rather powerful trample attacks.

Now, if there is something wrong/impossible with this please tell me before i build myself a mechanised army and, well, rule the world. or something fun like that.:D

Oh, i forgot. It also, conceivably, could have the benefit of counting as a stronghold/base of operations if used as such. cool.

Post 1 good idea.

Post 2... not so much.

90% cover is a good idea, and if you are willing to spend that much on your lackeys, then more power to you. I would hesitate to point out that such a contrivance (at least large to hold one or two lackeys, huge for more) the construct would still do more damage than your level ones will.

Ah, thats where your wrong. I think. and I'd have around 6-8 underlings i think if i added up my leadership right. Also, theyd be much better than a single thing for taking down large groups of people, and if the construct does more damage, so what?
thanks for the input

What you need is the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook. The authors expected you to spend millions, so the rules are very broken when it comes to building small.

Get a 30' hewn-stone guard tower with 40' ground movement for 9547.50 GP or 100' ground movement for 13110 GP.

To increase their chances of hitting things, give them buckets of hot oil. Only five foot range, most likely, but a reflex save rather than an attack roll.
