02-20-08, 03:30 AM The title pretty much says it all. I'm playing a Favored Soul with a vow of poverty and trying to find a way to get access to a mount. I'm sure that I can use my high diplomacy check to borrow one any time I need it for an adventure, but I really would like to find a way to get one more reliably.

Does anyone know of feats that can be used to gain something like a special mount?

02-20-08, 08:37 AM Dragon Steed from Draconomicon will give you a Dragonnel, have to treat it well though. And it's so much like a special mount, that any class with a special mount that takes the feat, actually replaces the mount. The only thing that might cause trouble is the Ride rank prereq.

However, if all you want is a horse of some type with it's own special abilities, the Wild Cohort listed above works well... and any equivalent would be just one feat. But to mimic the actual special mount like a paladin, etc, would most likely cost more than a single feat.

You may be able to point out the feat, and you get together with your DM to create two feats that mimic the ability to gain a special mount: one to gain the special mount, and the other to give the mount special abilities like a specific class... that way, it balances out... considering the special mount can be a big part of the classes that have it. Or the fact that you're Exalted may allow a divine favor of a special mount, again, something you may want to discuss with your DM.

For Favored Soul, probably I would have something like,

Favored Rider
You gain a loyal mount sent from your deity to assist you in the mortal world.
Prerequisites: 5th level Favored Soul
Benefits: You gain a special mount following the same progression as a Paladin, which advances with you as you gain levels (see the special mount class feature in the Paladin class description). This feature replaces the Energy Resistance class ability and all future improvements to that ability.

If you are past 5th level you could ret-con it.
