A friend of mine was describing some of the aspects of a character's special abilities in a show I watch, and from that, I got an idea for a feat, which casters can use to gain the ability to cast extra spells by using their own life force. How does it look?

You have gained such a bond with your arcane abilities that you may still tap into them even after having used up your normal reserves, though only at great cost to you.
Prerequisites: Con 13, Able to cast 3rd-level Arcane spells
Benefit: You may regain access to used spell-slots by spending hit points. To do so, you must spend a number of hit points equal to the level of the spell slot you wish to regain times 2 (0-level spells count as 1/2 for this effect). If you prepare spells, you may choose which spell to prepare as you use this ability. For example, Mialee, an 8th level Wizard, wishes to use this feat to regain a 3rd-level spell slot. She spends 6 hit points, and chooses to fill that spell slot with a Fireball spell.
Special: Hit points lost by means of this feat may not be regained until the character regains access to their spellcasting abilities. A Wizard who uses this feat would not be able to regain any of the hit points used to recast spells until he reprepares his spells for the next day. At that point, they begin to heal as normal.

Well, nobody else has said anything, so I will just say I think it is overpowered.

Why you ask? Because hit points are not terribly hard to get, especially with spells like False Life and Bear's Endurance.

At mid to high levels, unless your caster is being especially silly, it should be hard for enemies to hurt you, so the only damage you will be taking is self-inflicted.

For Gishes this will give access to more spells, and they have more hit points to sacrifice toward gaining them that way.
