| Khadmus03-19-07, 05:10 PM | I could post this under the "Battle Caster" thread, but I don't feel that my question would be as effectively answered. Also, the section of that thread regarding spell failure is a slight bit of "off-topic"-ness. What are the ways published by WotC to reduce arcane spell failure chance? There is Twilight, of course, and Mithral. What else is there? Could you list the book it was presented in too? |
| bloodtalon03-19-07, 06:46 PM | take the prestige class in the COMPLETE WARRIOR called spell sword, or the regular class called Hexblade in ARMS AND EQUIPMENT GUIDE these armor types help (Darkleaf, elven) or (Entropium) or (Leafware, elven) or (Blended Quartz). hopes that helps |
| Tharivol_Nailo03-20-07, 07:55 AM | Other than those mentioned i don't think there are anymore ways. |
| Torack03-20-07, 08:00 AM | Take levels in Geomancer (you have to be a Divine/Arcane caster mix though) at every level you gain the ability to cast a new spell-level without arcane spell failure. The ability is called Spell Versatility. |
| Tharivol_Nailo03-20-07, 08:01 AM | I never thought of that. Good call. |
| Dymalos03-20-07, 08:23 AM | In Races of the Wild there is a non-magical armor add-on which reduces ASF on certain armors by an additional 5%. It's rather inexpensive but it comes with an increased armor check penalty. |
| Torack03-20-07, 09:07 AM | The problem with the Geomancer is that it only adds to one spellcasting class. This means that either those 3 levels in Cleric or the 3 levels in Wizard are effectively wasted. However, the Geomancer does have some additional benefits: - You can have divine and arcane casting based off of one stat (which ever is higher), instead of two. (Spell versatility again.) - It gives you a boat load of skills. Don't have the book in front of me to check if there are many useful ones, though. - It allows a +1 caster level in certain terrains (very nifty) - Drift not only is a pretty cool mechanic (IMO) some of the bonuses are well worth it (wings, scent, and a few others), unfortunately there are simply not enough of them. Though the levels at which you gain them are slightly subpar. |
| NoldorForce03-20-07, 10:54 AM | Githcraft and Feycraft are nonmagical templates that can be applied to armor to give -5% ASF. The requirements for making them, however, are a bit esoteric. Both are in DMG2. |
| antsu03-20-07, 11:22 AM | I think there is a feat in complete mage that lets you cast spells with somatic components when having both hands full. I Don't know if it helps in this tho... But anyway still spell and quicken still spell (complete arcane) metamagic feats will help you out to get rid off somatic components and thus also arcane spell failure. |
| Tyraxus03-20-07, 11:33 AM | +1 Mithril Twilight Fullplate with Thistledown lining and 1 level of Spellsword (Complete Warrior). There you go, fullplate armour for any non-agile caster (b/c your ACP will be huge). I think there is a feat in complete mage that lets you cast spells with somatic components when having both hands full. Somatic Weaponry, yes. Ideal for your sword-n-board gish, but still spell is better. |
