| northr198004-04-07, 03:38 PM | what feats do i need to use armor spikes and a greatsword at the same time? is it just 2 weapon fighting or do i need somthing special?? (all ive got to go on is phb. dmg. mm) thanks |
| jaelis04-04-07, 05:02 PM | All you need is TWF. And a DM who is OK with it. |
| Screams_of_the_Oak04-04-07, 08:07 PM | Why? Just double shield up, and use your shields for weapons. Godly AC, and two hits per round. Just make sure you take some two weapon fighting feats. |
| gimby04-04-07, 08:08 PM | Except that sheild bonuses don't stack. |
| Steely_Dan04-05-07, 03:41 AM | All you need is Two-Weapon Fighting. The Greatsword is your main attack, and the armour spikes are considered your off-hand attack, or vice versa. If you take Improved Buckler Defence as well, you can attack with your greatsword (and armour spikes if you wish) at -1 and still retain your shield bonus to AC. |
| Screams_of_the_Oak04-05-07, 08:57 AM | Except that sheild bonuses don't stack. Where does it say that? Player's handbook only rules that a shield bonus does not stack with effects which allow a shield bonus such as Mage Armor. There is no ruling for a completely seperate shield |
| tui04-05-07, 09:20 AM | Where does it say that? Player's handbook only rules that a shield bonus does not stack with effects which allow a shield bonus such as Mage Armor. There is no ruling for a completely seperate shield Quoting from Does it Stack? (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040120a): The basic rule to remember when combining two or more bonuses is this: two or more bonuses of different type stack, and two or more bonuses of the same type overlap. In general, a bonus's name indicates its type. A bonus with no name has no type and it stacks with any other bonus, but not with itself. So in short, bonuses of the same type don't stack, unless it explicitly says they do. Can you find somewhere where it says the shield bonus from two shields DO stack? If not, then they don't. |
| jaelis04-05-07, 10:12 AM | Or if you prefer a quote from the srd saying the same thing in a less comprehensible way: In most cases, modifiers to a given check or roll stack (combine for a cumulative effect) if they come from different sources and have different types (or no type at all), but do not stack if they have the same type or come from the same source (such as the same spell cast twice in succession). If the modifiers to a particular roll do not stack, only the best bonus and worst penalty applies. Dodge bonuses and circumstance bonuses however, do stack with one another unless otherwise specified. |
| coral8504-05-07, 03:20 PM | It's also important to note that as a DM I'd not allow 1 1/2 str bonus to your greatsword and 1/2 str to your spikes because the TWF rules assumes you're never recieving more than 1 1/2x your str modifier for both hits. Either 1 1/2x for a two handed weapon, or 1x and 1/2x str for on-hand and off-hand weapons. Also power attack only applies on a 1 for 1, not a 2 for 1. These are my rules though, so STR bonus modifiers to damage don't get nuts (as they have with my players before, one in particular.) |
